In this work, we study the problem of aggregation in the context of Bayesian Federated Learning (BFL). Using an information geometric perspective, we interpret the BFL aggregation step as finding the barycenter of the trained posteriors for a pre-specified divergence metric. We study the barycenter problem for the parametric family of α-divergences and, focusing on the standard case of independent and Gaussian distributed parameters, we recover the closed-form solution of the reverse Kullback–Leibler barycenter and develop the analytical form of the squared Wasserstein-2 barycenter. Considering a non-IID setup, where clients possess heterogeneous data, we analyze the performance of the developed algorithms against state-of-the-art (SOTA) Bayesian aggregation methods in terms of accuracy, uncertainty quantification (UQ), model calibration (MC), and fairness. Finally, we extend our analysis to the framework of Hybrid Bayesian Deep Learning (HBDL), where we study how the number of Bayesian layers in the architecture impacts the considered performance metrics. Pneumothorax is a thoracic condition that occurs when a person’s lungs collapse,causing air to enter the pleural cavity,the area close to the lungs and chest *** most persistent disease,as well as one that necessitates particular patient care and the privacy of their health *** radiologists find it challenging to diagnose pneumothorax due to the variations in *** learning-based techniques are commonly employed to solve image categorization and segmentation ***,it is challenging to employ it in the medical field due to privacy issues and a lack of *** address this issue,a federated learning framework based on an Xception neural network model is proposed in this *** pneumothorax medical image dataset is obtained from the Kaggle *** preprocessing is performed on the used dataset to convert unstructured data into structured information to improve the model’s ***-max normalization technique is used to normalize the data,and the features are extracted from chest Xray *** dataset converts into two windows to make two clients for local model *** neural network model is trained on the dataset individually and aggregates model updates from two clients on the server *** decrease the over-fitting effect,every client analyses the results three *** 1 performed better in round 2 with a 79.0%accuracy,and client 2 performed better in round 2 with a 77.0%*** experimental result shows the effectiveness of the federated learning-based technique on a deep neural network,reaching a 79.28%accuracy while also providing privacy to the patient’s data.

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) Fingerprinting-based Indoor Positioning systems (IPS) offer several key advantages over other indoor positioning technologies, including cost-effectiveness with high accuracy and passive tracking of entities’ location without Global Positioning System (GPS) dependence. However, achieving a satisfactory accuracy performance of the WLAN fingerprinting-based IPS is still challenging, as it is affected by several factors, such as obstacles (e.g., walls and furniture) that can block or weaken wireless signals. Additionally, the IPS’s accuracy can be affected by environmental changes, such as the height, addition, or removal of a WLAN Access Point (AP) or changes in radio frequency interference. This paper presents a novel algorithm incorporating a probabilistic analytical model employing only high signal relations that mitigate the effect of low signal relation on the WLAN fingerprinting-based IPS, thus improving the accuracy performance. Furthermore, it analyses the impact of AP heights on the accuracy performance of the WLAN IPS. Upon extensive experiments, the proposed algorithm improves the accuracy of the IPS by an average of 32.74% in terms of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). These results imply that incorporating APs’ height and high signal relations can significantly improve the accuracy performance of the WLAN fingerprinting-based IPS. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Current methods in mapping the availability of WiFi networks, such as crowdsourcing platforms (e.g. Project BASS and CoverageMap) and dedicated wardriving, face limitations in terms of data recency, volume, and cost-effectiveness. Due to the downsides of both these methods, opportunistic wardriving is proposed which utilizes public utility vehicles (PUVs). This study investigates the feasibility of PUVs as potential wardriving vehicles for opportunistic coverage mapping. This method is cost-efficient and removes the problem of data recency because of its continuous daily trips. The findings suggest that opportunistic wardriving with PUVs is viable for wardriving with its capability to detect a high volume of access points (APs). Multiple runs within the University of the Philippines Diliman campus showed the PUVs’ effectiveness in detecting a significant number of APs, with higher success rates at closer distances. Comparatively, warwalking detected fewer APs, but there was a significant overlap between the methods. The study also highlighted significant differences in detected AP types, with wardriving finding more mobile hotspots and miscellaneous devices than warwalking. Overall, the results underline the effectiveness of PUVs in providing extensive WiFi coverage data and further enhancements to the detection system could optimize the approach.

Reliable internet access is a key enabler for economic growth. Although the Philippine government launched initiatives to improve connectivity, connection speeds remained below the global average, especially for mobile networks. This paper presents Hotspotter, a system that aims to aid implementers and stakeholders in quantifying and addressing network coverage issues. Hotspotter is an incentivized crowdsensing system that collects, maps, and visualizes WiFi and cellular data to pinpoint hotspots and dead zones for the effective deployment and relocation of WiFi access points. A mobile application for Android was developed to facilitate data collection on geolocation, nearby WiFi access points, and connected cellular networks. The user interface visualizes the aggregated data in a hexagon-grid map. Fieldwork was conducted in two sitios of Barangay San Lorenzo, Norzagaray, Bulacan to stress-test the Hotspotter system in a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA). It was found that 2G and 4G had the widest coverage and strongest signals overall, with modal signal strengths of 4.0 and 3.0, respectively. Being at the cutting edge, 5G was not yet supported. In the end, the mobile application’s passive sensing, collecting, and caching of data successfully operated even in the most isolated areas without an internet connection.

Slow Start increases the congestion window by doubling each round trip until congestion is detected. As a result, reaching optimal speed typically takes several round trip times, especially important in high bandwidth-delay product networks. Geostationary satellite communications now use Performance Enhancing Proxies to accelerate the growth of the congestion window. However, these are ineffective for connections with encrypted headers or UDP traffic. We propose a new method, Careful Resume, that enables a rapid ramp-up of congestion control by reusing previous parameters. We implement Careful Resume in Picoquic and run performance tests using an emulated geostationary satellite path, three real geostationary satellite networks, the low Earth orbit satellite megaconstellation Starlink, and a cellular 5G network. Results confirm that Careful Resume accelerates the ramp-up process, reducing total transmission time. Even for connections with lower bandwidth-delay products, the network congestion point can be reached much more quickly. Benefits are particularly pronounced for paths with high bandwidth-delay products and medium-sized transfers such as web traffic.

New storage requirements, analysis, and visualization of Big Data, which includes structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, have caused the developers in the past decade to begin preferring Big Data databases, such as NoSQL, that comes to overcome the boundaries of relational Databases such as unlimited scalability, high performance, data modeling, data distribution, and continuous availability. Medical data are subject to privacy regulations, which severely limit AI specialists who wish to construct decision support systems for medicine. Large amounts of this data are tabular, indicating that they are organized into a table format, where patient records are represented in rows and measured variables in columns. Furthermore, the variables come in different types—some are numerical, while others are categorical. In this work, we introduce a novel method for constructing generators of synthetic tabular data with mixed types. The key point of our approach is the explicit utilization of a latent space to represent the original data. A case study using real medical data is presented.

Multi and single carrier waveforms are utilized in cellular systems for high-speed data *** The Fifth Generation(5G)system,several waveform techniques based on multi carrier waveforms are ***,the Peak to Average Power Ratio(PAPR)is seen as one of the significant concerns in advanced waveforms as it degrades the efficiency of the *** proposed article documents the study,progress,and implementation of PAPR reduction algorithms for the 5G radio *** compare the PAPR algorithm performance for advanced and conventional *** simulation results reveal that the advanced Partial Transmission Sequence(PTS)and Selective Mapping(SLM)methods enhanced the throughput and gain of the 5G ***,we have also analyzed the performance of Orthogonal Time Frequency Space Modulation(OTFSM)based on a single carrier system and found that PAPR is significantly low and is best suited to fading *** is seen that the conventional algorithms lower the PAPR but increase the *** proposed PTS and SLM have shown good performance with low computational complexity.
