The increasing growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has created a wide attack surface for cyber criminals to carry out more destructive cyber attacks;therefore, the number of cyber attacks in the information security industry is increasing rapidly. As attackers use new and innovative methods to launch cyber-oriented attacks, many of these strikes have succeeded in their malicious goals. Anomaly-based intrusion detection systems (IDS) use machine learning techniques to detect and classify attacks on IoT networks. Faced with unpredictable network technologies and various infiltration methods, traditional machine learning technologies are powerless. In abounding areas of research, kernel learning methods prove that they accurately determine pathological abilities. © 2024 IEEE.

Tapered optical fiber DNA biosensor for detecting Leptospira DNA

Objective: To establish a DNA detection platform based on a tapered optical fiber to detect Leptospira DNA by targeting the leptospiral secY ***: The biosensor works on the principle of light propagating in the special geometry of the optical fiber tapered from a waist diameter of 125 to 12 μm. The fiber surface was functionalized through a cascade of chemical treatments and the immobilization of a DNA capture probe targeting the secY gene. The presence of the target DNA was determined from the wavelength shift in the optical transmission ***: The biosensor demonstrated good sensitivity, detecting Leptospira DNA at 0.001 ng/μL, and was selective for Leptospira DNA without cross-reactivity with non-leptospiral microorganisms. The biosensor specifically detected DNA that was specifically amplified through the loop-mediated isothermal amplification ***: These findings warrant the potential of this platform to be developed as a novel alternative approach to diagnose leptospirosis.

Flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) tackle diverse challenges, for example, dynamic topological structure, high mobility of nodes, low density, and energy restrictions. These challenges make problems in designing reliable and stable routing in FANETs. Hence, the design of a routing algorithm is essential for transferring data between drones. In this paper, an energy-aware routing scheme based on a virtual relay tunnel (EARVRT) is proposed in flying ad hoc networks. EARVRT includes a virtual relay tunnel (VRT) that manages relay nodes in the route discovery process and lowers network overhead. Moreover, three metrics, namely route energy, hop counts, and a new metric called path correlation are regarded in the path selection operation. Note that correlation is defined with regard to two scales, including the cosine similarity of two nodes and their distance. EARVRT is evaluated according to delay, network longevity, consumed energy, and packet delivery rate. Then, our scheme is compared with three methods, namely LoCaL, O-LAR, and PSO-GLFR. These results show the superiority and success of EARVRT in comparison with other algorithms. © 2024 The Author(s)

Internet of Things(IoT)defines a network of devices connected to the internet and sharing a massive amount of data between each other and a central *** IoT devices are connected to a network therefore prone to *** management tasks and network operations such as security,intrusion detection,Quality-of-Service provisioning,performance monitoring,resource provisioning,and traffic engineering require traffic *** to the ineffectiveness of traditional classification schemes,such as port-based and payload-based methods,researchers proposed machine learning-based traffic classification systems based on shallow neural ***,machine learning-based models incline to misclassify internet traffic due to improper feature *** this research,an efficient multilayer deep learning based classification system is presented to overcome these challenges that can classify internet *** examine the performance of the proposed technique,Moore-dataset is used for training the *** proposed scheme takes the pre-processed data and extracts the flow features using a deep neural network(DNN).In particular,the maximum entropy classifier is used to classify the internet *** experimental results show that the proposed hybrid deep learning algorithm is effective and achieved high accuracy for internet traffic classification,i.e.,99.23%.Furthermore,the proposed algorithm achieved the highest accuracy compared to the support vector machine(SVM)based classification technique and k-nearest neighbours(KNNs)based classification technique.

In this work, we investigate low-complexity remote system state estimation over wireless multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channels without requiring prior knowledge of channel state information (CSI). We start by reviewing the conventional Kalman filtering-based state estimation algorithm, which typically relies on perfect CSI and incurs considerable computational complexity. To overcome the need for CSI, we introduce a novel semantic aggregation method, in which sensors transmit semantic measurement discrepancies to the remote state estimator through analog aggregation. To further reduce computational complexity, we introduce a constant-gain-based filtering algorithm that can be optimized offline using the constrained stochastic successive convex approximation (CSSCA) method. We derive a closed-form sufficient condition for the estimation stability of our proposed scheme via Lyapunov drift analysis. Numerical results showcase significant performance gains using the proposed scheme compared to several widely used methods. © 2025, CC BY.

On the Rate-Distortion-Perception Function for Gaussian Processes

In this paper, we investigate the rate-distortion-perception function (RDPF) of a source modeled by a Gaussian Process (GP) on a measure space Ω under mean squared error (MSE) distortion and squared Wasserstein-2 perception metrics. First, we show that the optimal reconstruction process is itself a GP, characterized by a covariance operator sharing the same set of eigenvectors of the source covariance operator. Similarly to the classical rate-distortion function, this allows us to formulate the RDPF problem in terms of the Karhunen–Loève transform coefficients of the involved GPs. Leveraging the similarities with the finite-dimensional Gaussian RDPF, we formulate an analytical tight upper bound for the RDPF for GPs, which recovers the optimal solution in the "perfect realism" regime. Lastly, in the case where the source is a stationary GP and Ω is the interval [0, T ] equipped with the Lebesgue measure, we derive an upper bound on the rate and the distortion for a fixed perceptual level and T → ∞ as a function of the spectral density of the source process. © 2025, CC BY.

Improved Methods of Task Assignment and Resource Allocation with Preemption in Edge Computing systems

Edge computing has become a very popular service that enables mobile devices to run complex tasks with the help of network-based computing resources. However, edge clouds are often resource-constrained, which makes resource allocation a challenging issue. In addition, edge cloud servers must make allocation decisions with only limited information available, since the arrival of future client tasks might be impossible to predict, and the states and behavior of neighboring servers might be obscured. We focus on a distributed resource allocation method in which servers operate independently and do not communicate with each other, but interact with clients (tasks) to make allocation decisions. We follow a two-round bidding approach to assign tasks to edge cloud servers, and servers are allowed to preempt previous tasks to allocate more useful ones. We evaluate the performance of our system using realistic simulations and real-world trace data from a high-performance computing cluster. Results show that our heuristic improves system-wide performance by 20-25% over previous work when accounting for the time taken by each approach. Recent technological advancements have paved the way for the optimization of medical processes, particularly automated disease detection. Moreover, the adoption of machine learning (ML) has greatly helped in automating disease detection. Such approaches can detect various diseases early, enabling timely treatment to save countless lives. Early and accurate diagnosis is very important for diseases like monkeypox, to curb its spread. Monkeypox is a viral disease caused by double-stranded DNA and can be transmitted through close contact with infected humans or animals. It’s early identification and accurate lesion diagnosis are critical to contain the disease. This study proposes an automated approach to optimize the diagnosis of monkeypox disease using a novel vision transformer, which is utilized due to its effectiveness for feature extraction. The Proposed approach’s efficiency and accuracy are tested on a public benchmark dataset comprising a variety of skin lesions of different ages and genders. In addition, data augmentation involves rotation, scaling, and flipping thereby enhancing the density of the training data set for better generalization of ML models. Experiments involve binary, as well as, multi-class classification. For the binary class, the proposed model achieves an accuracy of 97.63%, outperforming traditional ML and deep learning (DL) techniques. In the case of multi-class classification with monkeypox, measles, normal, HFMD, cowpox, and chickenpox classes, the proposed model archives an accuracy of 90.61% while precision, recall, and F1 scores are 91.39%, 89.17%, and 90.28%, respectively. Furthermore, the proposed approach shows average accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores of 97.54%, 96.19%, 95.16%, and 95.67%, respectively for five-fold cross-validation.
