Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a swarm intelligence meta-heuristics whose performance highly depends on the selection of its hyper-parameters, which control the particles’ exploration and exploitation capabilities during the search process. Since the tuning of the hyper-parameters is problem-dependent, settings-free methods are preferable. Fuzzy Self-Tuning PSO (FST-PSO) is a settings-free variant of PSO that exploits a Fuzzy Rule-Based System to determine the best hyper-parameter values for each particle dynamically. Despite this advantage, the optimization process might get stuck in local optima. Here, we propose a what-if strategy to generate and explore alternate swarm histories: what happens if we could go back in time and change something in the past so that one particle "was" different at the beginning of the optimization? Specifically, whenever the global best particle does not improve for a number of iterations, it is terminated and re-initialized, meanwhile sending the rest of the swarm back to the initial configuration. This approach, called "time travel" FST-PSO (FTT-PSO), works under the assumption that the convergence of any particle towards an optimum is strongly related to the influence of the global best particle. We compare the performance of FTT-PSO against FST-PSO on the benchmark suites used in IEEE CEC and GECCO competitions. Our results show that time traveling allows for outperforming both the standard and the multistart versions of FST-PSO. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The utilisation of sensor networks in agriculture monitoring is the invention that benefits Indians the most. Given that agriculture is the primary source of revenue, it is essential to boost production while decreasing expenses, inputs of time, and labour. Information gathered from agricultural areas is stored in a database, which may be monitored via the Internet of Things (IoT). Connecting Raspberry Pi with IoT and sensors to increase agricultural activity productivity is the challenging task in the Farm Management System for secure agriculture. Temperature, humidity, soil moisture content, and any field fires are tracked as a challenge's outcome. Specifications like temperature, moisture content, and fire are currently detected manually in farm systems. This technique automates the completion of watering. It used to lighten the workload for farmers. Any type of crop productivity is feasible. This method's drawbacks include an increase in labour costs, increased time requirements, and the inability to do continuous monitoring. © 2023 IEEE.

Digital watermarking of interactive media content has become an active experimentation field in recent years. In addition to reviewing some of the methods that have been developed for various media types;a general structure for watermark engrafting and identification is outlined. We highlight a few of these application-oriented differences, including copyright protection, substantiation, tamper identification, and data hiding, as well as the technological and system conditions for different media types such as digital photos, digital files, digital audio, and text. We describe a general structure for digital watermarking-based image copyright protection in this approach. In this paper, we outline the pre-processing and implementation of tide marking technique where Twofish algorithm and double encryption is described. The image processing toolbox is also specified by comparing five different image processing techniques. In addition, the post implementation is carried out with the wavelet toolbox and matlab coder to analyze signal, image properties and generate the efficient code for embedding the text. © 2024 IEEE.

The peculiarity of electrospark dispersion of conductive materials in a liquid is the direct obtaining of an ultrafine state of a substance, the dimensions of which are in the nanoscale range. The implementation of the electrospark dispersion method is carried out at a technological installation, which includes: a discharge pulse generator, a discharge parameter control unit, a discharge chamber, and measuring devices. Discharge pulse generators with capacitive energy storage have shown their high efficiency in spark erosion systems to produce powders with particle sizes from 10 nm to 100 μm. ©2024 IEEE.

In multi-drone networks, video streaming helps in performing many tasks such as surveillance, inspection, and map generation. In such networks, packet loss frequently occurs due to the high mobility of the nodes and to congestion. Therefore, a model is required in order to investigate and analyze the trade-off between the end-to-end delay, packet dropping probability, and the required number of paths. In this paper, multi-source live-video streaming in Flying Ad Hoc networks FANETs is analyzed, and a network queue model is suggested. Then, the quality of the paths is estimated, experiments are conducted, and conclusions based on the results are obtained. The network is modelled with an M/M/1 Markovian model to quantify the system's performance. Transition sequence between good and bad states is taken into account by the proposed model as a packet loss process. The good and bad stationary probability is used, after measuring the Packet Reception Ratio PRR, in order to discriminate the good paths from the weak ones. This multi-source approach increases the network goodput and allows the system to be unlimited by the weakest source node quality. © 2022 IEEE.

One of the most effective approaches to satisfying the requirements of the next generation of wireless services is non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). Spectrum efficiency and average capacity are two aspects of wireless communication that have become increasingly important as the number of mobile services in use has increased. Using both traditional MIMO and Massive MIMO (M-MIMO), this study proposes two new methods for increasing the average capacity of a 5G network's downlink (DL) NOMA power domain (PD) in conjunction with a Cooperative Cognitive Radio Network (CCRN). The initial method involves NOMA users competing for available rivalry channels (R-CH) on the CCRN. The second technique creates a dedicated channel (D-CH) for NOMA users. The MATLAB program is utilized to evaluate the proposed methods in three scenarios with varying distances, power location coefficients, and transmission power. Successive interference cancellation (SIC) and unstable channel conditions are also considered while assessing the analysis of the proposed system under the assumption of Rayleigh fading. Using DL NOMA PD systems, The results reveal that the higher average capacity of best at transmit power DL NOMA with CCRN (dedicated channel) improved U4 average capacity performance by M-MIMO DL NOMA with CCRN (D-CH) improved by when compared with convention DL NOMA. Formulas in closed form were found for average capacity. The resulting formulas are verified using a Monte Carlo simulation. © 2023 IEEE.

The necessity of a blueprint of a building structure is a mandatory requirement for any reconnaissance or rescue operations. In our project, we build a modular system combining sensors related to sonar, laser, micro-wave to read sensory values and generate a 2D path of any building. The data is fetched and stored to feed to anOptimal Neural Network (ONN)-based computing system to create a 2D route with minimal discrepancies of error. Here the NN architecture is fine-tuned using Modified Dolphin Partner Optimization (MDPO) Exploration of unknown environments and space using autonomous vehicles has recently gained good attention in the field of Robotic Mapping. The recent advancements in the Internet of Things have enabled us to establish an ideal frame of reference for sonar and lidar-based systems. New effects are displayed by the sensors according to the physical characteristics of a room. The range data from sensors in various surroundings are interpreted by NNs. The distorted errors due to the material medium, particles, and moving objects present in the environment pose a threat to building a high-quality path map. The sensor fusion technique is applied to the rotatable modular array sensor to minimalize discrepancies caused by cloth materials during sonar readings, particle noise in an environment for Lidar reading, and moving human bodies present in the environment for path building and obstacle detection. © 2023 IEEE.

Wear is a significant industrial issue caused by the interaction of multiple complex factors rather than solely by material properties. CuZn37Pb2 and AISI 1060 steel are particularly susceptible to wear due to extensive industrial applications. This study developed a wear test tool, machined on a horizontal lathe, for testing under dry and lubricated conditions. A tribological comparison was conducted between the lathe test and a tribometer, examining factors like surface roughness, load, sliding speed, wear track diameter, track width, contact temperature, wear loss, and wear rate relative to the friction coefficient. Experiments were performed with torques ranging from 25 to 100 N, speeds of 0.30, 0.40, and 0.50 m/s, and wear track diameters of 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm. Worn surfaces and wear tracks were analyzed using optical microscopy and SEM-EDS. The influence of temperature (50 °C to 200 °C) on friction properties was studied, showing that sample morphology and test type greatly affect tribological response. Despite a wear rate calculation error below 8.12%, results indicated differences between laboratory and real-world tribological responses. This study enhances wear understanding by examining numerous previously unstudied characteristics and shows that, although wear cannot be entirely eliminated, it can be significantly minimized. Laboratory testing provides prototypes for industrial challenges, effectively linking academic research with industry needs. © 2024 The Authors.

In recent years, the impressive growth of new wireless technologies, together with the appearance of new requirements in applications and services, is progressively changing the use of networks. Due to the high mobility required, the network must adapt to the infrastructure to meet the demands of the users. As a result, service providers currently have to over-provision network capacity, which is costly. In addition, considering efficient resource planning in advance involves a lot of labor-intensive efforts. Consequently, network usage analysis is a very useful tool that allows network administrators to find patterns and anomalies. Whilst pattern detection provides administrators the ability to define the infrastructure, anomaly detection provides rich and valuable information for certain applications, for example, to avoid network saturation in urban areas during peak hours. This article proposes a new methodology based on orthogonal projections over Call Detail Records (CDR) for anomaly detection to help in the dynamic management of the network in an urban area. The method is evaluated in a real scenario provided by an Italian telecommunications operator, considering different locations in the Milan metropolitan area, differentiated by the geographic resolution of the data, reaching F1 scores above 0.8. In addition, a new ground truth is presented, hoping it will become a reference data set for the community, in the form of a set of locations that have been corroborated for use in evaluating anomaly detection techniques. © 2023, The Author(s).
