The effect of maternal depression on mother-child dialogue at 14 months

Early social interaction lays the foundation for developing language skills. Maternal depression may affect social interaction by disrupting the temporal structure of turn-taking. In this study, we examined the temporal properties of dialogue extracted from video recordings of semi-structured play between mothers and preschool children enrolled in the Early Head Start Research and Evaluation Program. The primary goal of the study is understanding how depression impacts bidirectional processes in mother-child interaction, and the quality of children’s early language experience. Our analyses examined how higher levels of maternal depression were related to the total interaction time, the response latencies, the number and duration of utterances, and the number of conversational turns for both the mother and the child. Significant differences were noted in families with maternal depression playing for shorter total durations and exchanging fewer back-and-forth utterances. Children of depressed mothers vocalize significantly less frequently than children of non-depressed mothers.

Universal Design is a fundamentals of good design. A product with Universal Design approach should provide wide range of solution for people with different purposes including those with diverse disabilities. However, designers often based on a subjective understanding of Universal Design Principles (UDP) to formulate design solutions. This result in the inaccurate conversion of design needs. A systematic approach is needed in order to develop a concept to meet the customer need. Previous studies shown potential integration of the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) proposed to create a systematic approach for problem-solving requires creativity abilities. The purpose of this study is to explore the construction of the integration model of UDP and TRIZ 40 inventive principles. To construct the integration model of UDP and TRIZ 40 inventive principles, this study will use focus group discussion of certified TRIZ experts in the exploration of establishing an integration model of UDP and TRIZ 40 inventive principles. The further discussion onto the elements required to create the integration model by the TRIZ experts will be taken into consideration to construct a final model UDP-TRIZ model. Finally, the results are expected to lead towards a final integration model of the UDP and TRIZ integration model.

Joint acoustic and class inference for weakly supervised sound event detection

Sound event detection is a challenging task, especially for scenes with multiple simultaneous events. While event classification methods tend to be fairly accurate, event localization presents additional challenges, especially when large amounts of labeled data are not available. Task4 of the 2018 DCASE challenge presents an event detection task that requires accuracy in both segmentation and recognition of events while providing only weakly labeled training data. Supervised methods can produce accurate event labels but are limited in event segmentation when training data lacks event timestamps. On the other hand, unsupervised methods that model the acoustic properties of the audio can produce accurate event boundaries but are not guided by the characteristics of event classes and sound categories. We present a hybrid approach that combines an acoustic-driven event boundary detection and a supervised label inference using a deep neural network. This framework leverages benefits of both unsupervised and supervised methodologies and takes advantage of large amounts of unlabeled data, making it ideal for large-scale weakly labeled event detection. Compared to a baseline system, the proposed approach delivers a 15% absolute improvement in F-score, demonstrating the benefits of the hybrid bottom-up, top-down approach. Many techniques are implemented to perform fingerprint recognition approach, and each technique based on specific criteria. The aim of this work is to find an efficient fingerprint recognition technique. This paper tries to offer a simple high performance approach to perform fingerprint recognition. This approach based on two main stages; the first one is the real data collection of human fingerprint samples and the second stage is concentrated on design and implementation of high performance fingerprint recognition approach. The implemented approach concentrated on the feature extraction part in which many levels of two dimensional discrete wavelet transform (2D-DWT) are used to generate high performance feature. This approach is implemented via mixing the features of both right hand thumb and left hand thumb. The results indicate that a good accuracy of recognition is obtained by this approach.

An extensive number of engineered frameworks and web assessment accessible are not good enough in the appraisal of systems' quality. Thus, the comprehension of the systems' quality in Mukalla, is basically critical. The research literature review aims at developing a successful novel theoretical approach for measuring system. The research contribution can be seen theoretically, in the methodology and practical perspectives. Theoretically, it presents a refined expansion of up-to-date DeLone and McLean's information success framework (2003), TAM and ISO 25010 posits that some factors are directly related to satisfaction. Play Fairal gorithm has been enhanced in various ways. One of the methods is to increase the confusion rates by transforming the algorithm into 3D-playfair which has four tables of 4×4 and accepts trigraph rather than digraph. This paper further enhances the 3D-playfair algorithm by extending its tables and hereby increasing the security level as well as supporting the characters of all the world's living languages. This is achieved by using four matrices of 128×128 to store all the possible characters which are 65536. As a result, the proposed algorithm has more resistanceto brute force andfrequency analysis attacks.

In this paper, we present an investigation on technical details of the byte-level convolutional layer which replaces the conventional linear word projection layer in the neural language model. In particular, we discuss and compare the effective filter configurations, pooling types and the use of bytes instead of characters. We carry out experiments on language packs released by the IARPA Babel project and measure the performance in terms of perplexity and word error rate. Introducing a convolutional layer consistently improves the results on all languages. Also, there is no degradation from using raw bytes instead of proper Unicode characters, even on syllabic alphabets like Amharic. In addition, we report improvements in word error rate from rescoring lattices and evaluate keyword search performance on several languages.
