The increasing complexity and interconnectedness of Internet of Things (IoT) software systems necessitate the development of intelligent solutions for predictive maintenance and security. Conventional techniques often fail to provide real-time insights and proactive responses due to the diverse and dynamic nature of IoT environments. To address these challenges, cognitive technologies offer promising avenues for enhancing the operational efficiency and security of IoT networks. This paper introduces Cognitive Twins, an AI-driven framework designed to optimize predictive maintenance and strengthen security in IoT software systems. Cognitive Twins leverage advanced machine learning models and real-time data streams to create dynamic digital replicas of IoT devices and software components. The framework employs a combination of deep learning-based anomaly detection, reinforcement learning for proactive maintenance scheduling, and natural language processing (NLP) for automated security log analysis. By continuously learning from device interactions and evolving threat patterns, Cognitive Twins predict potential failures and detect security threats before they occur, enabling real-time decision-making and automated responses. Cognitive Twins were evaluated on a large-scale IoT network, consisting of 500 nodes across multiple application domains. The framework achieved a predictive maintenance accuracy of 96.8%, reducing downtime by 35% compared to traditional models. In security applications, Cognitive Twins identified cyber threats with a detection rate of 98.3%, lowering the false positive rate to 1.5%.

Agentic AI, with its autonomous and proactive decision-making, has transformed smart environments. By integrating Generative AI (GenAI) and multi-agent systems, modern AI frameworks can dynamically adapt to user preferences, optimize data management, and improve resource allocation. This paper introduces UserCentrix, an agentic memory-augmented AI framework designed to enhance smart spaces through dynamic, context-aware decision-making. This framework integrates personalized Large Language Model (LLM) agents that leverage user preferences and LLM memory management to deliver proactive and adaptive assistance. Furthermore, it incorporates a hybrid hierarchical control system, balancing centralized and distributed processing to optimize real-time responsiveness while maintaining global situational awareness. UserCentrix achieves resource-efficient AI interactions by embedding memory-augmented reasoning, cooperative agent negotiation, and adaptive orchestration strategies. Our key contributions include (i) a self-organizing framework with proactive scaling based on task urgency, (ii) a Value of Information (VoI)-driven decision-making process, (iii) a meta-reasoning personal LLM agent, and (iv) an intelligent multi-agent coordination system for seamless environment adaptation. Experimental results across various models confirm the effectiveness of our approach in enhancing response accuracy, system efficiency, and computational resource management in real-world application. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

Polyjuice: High-performance transactions via learned concurrency control

Concurrency control algorithms are key determinants of the performance of in-memory databases. Existing algorithms are designed to work well for certain workloads. For example, optimistic concurrency control (OCC) is better than twophase- locking (2PL) under low contention, while the converse is true under high contention. To adapt to different workloads, prior works mix or switch between a few known algorithms using manual insights or simple heuristics. We propose a learning-based framework that instead explicitly optimizes concurrency control via offline training to maximize performance. Instead of choosing among a small number of known algorithms, our approach searches in a "policy space" of fine-grained actions, resulting in novel algorithms that can outperform existing algorithms by specializing to a given workload. We build Polyjuice based on our learning framework and evaluate it against several existing algorithms. Under different configurations of TPC-C and TPC-E, Polyjuice can achieve throughput numbers higher than the best of existing algorithms by 15% to 56%. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. BRI-MAC: Broadcast Receiver Initiated MAC protocol for Internet of Things

Efficient energy management in IoT networks, particularly at the MAC layer, is essential due to the excessive energy consumption of traditional protocols caused by retransmissions, idle listening, and control overhead. To address these challenges, this paper proposes BRI-MAC (Broadcast Receiver-Initiated MAC), a multi-hop duty cycle MAC protocol that enhances energy efficiency, reduces latency, and optimizes packet delivery. BRI-MAC employs a rendezvous beacon for transmission scheduling and integrates a collision resolution mechanism to minimize energy waste. In addition to performance improvements, BRI-MAC strengthens IoT security by mitigating DDoS, Sybil, and jamming attacks through adaptive scheduling and resilient multi-hop broadcasting. Simulation results demonstrate that BRI-MAC reduces end-to-end delay by 20%, achieves a 97% packet reception rate, maintains low energy consumption (30%), and offers excellent scalability (90%), compared to existing MAC protocols such as RI-MAC and EnRI-MAC. These findings highlight its superiority over conventional MAC protocols, making it a compelling solution for large-scale, energy-constrained IoT deployments.

The history of the use of mines dates back almost two centuries. The geography of their use and the associated social harm have made them, without exaggeration, a global problem. At the same time, searches were underway for safe methods of their neutralization using various technical means. In so doing, until now, none of the existing methods provides a 100% guarantee of cleaning the territory, which determines the purpose of finding innovative methods and the possibility of combining them with existing ones. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are becoming a real modern breakthrough in the field of intellectual achievements. Obtaining optimal results when solving a wide range of different problems, together with the development of composite materials, software, and the latest navigation equipment, make the tasks assigned to them and the expected results more and more difficult. UAVs allow people not to be in life-threatening conditions, to conduct activities beyond their physiological and psychophysiological abilities. The combination of the ability to collect spatial data during flight in various ranges of remote sensing with the possibility of carrying variants of useful equipment opens up prospects for their use in the field of demining territories. Supplementing UAV technologies with modern information systems for processing and analysis of information (expert systems, machine learning, computational intelligence, distributed artificial intelligence, neural networks, etc.), including spatial (GIS), opens up great prospects in the field of humanitarian demining of territories. © 2024, The Authors. For each smart home, the need of energy consumption supervision is necessary, which plays an important role to ensure the highest power quality and to enhance the stability of the whole grid. The current document implements a smart home supply strategy based on endless resources to reduce the electricity bill and confirm the energy balance. In this context, a proposed supervision algorithm operates in eight cases to reach optimal energy flow between renewable generators, home battery and grid in a smart home concept is presented. The system is evaluated using the framework “Business Process Model and Notation” (BPMN) Camunda basing on information stored in Firebase Cloud and results are presented in order to manifest the efficiency of this control strategy.

A key task of data science is to identify relevant features linked to certain output variables that are supposed to be modeled or predicted. To obtain a small but meaningful model, it is important to find stochastically independent variables capturing all the information necessary to model or predict the output variables sufficiently. Therefore, we introduce in this work a framework to detect linear and non-linear dependencies between different features. As we will show, features that are actually functions of other features do not represent further information. Consequently, a model reduction neglecting such features conserves the relevant information, reduces noise and thus improves the quality of the model. Furthermore, a smaller model makes it easier to adopt a model of a given system. In addition, the approach structures dependencies within all the considered features. This provides advantages for classical modeling starting from regression ranging to differential equations and for machine learning. To show the generality and applicability of the presented framework 2154 features of a data center are measured and a model for classification for faulty and non-faulty states of the data center is set up. This number of features is automatically reduced by the framework to 161 features. The prediction accuracy for the reduced model even improves compared to the model trained on the total number of features. Intelligent environments work collaboratively, bringing more comfort to human beings. The intelligence of these environments comes from technological advances in sensors and communication. IoT is the model developed that allows a wide and intelligent communication between devices. Hardware reduction of IoT devices results in vulnerabilities. Thus, there are numerous concerns regarding the security of user information, since mobile devices are easily trackable over the Internet. Care must be taken regarding the information in user profiles. Mobile devices are protected by a permission-based mechanism, which limits third-party applications from accessing sensitive device resources. In this context, this work aims to present a proposal for materialization of application for the evolution of user profiles in intelligent environments. Having as parameters the parameters presented in the proposed taxonomy. The proposed solution is the development of two applications, one for Android devices, responsible for allowing or blocking some features of the device. Internet of Things (IoT) is characterized as one of the leading actors for the next evolutionary stage in the computing world. IoT-based applications have already produced a plethora of novel services and are improving the living standard by enabling innovative and smart solutions. However, along with its rapid adoption, IoT technology also creates complex challenges regarding the management of IoT networks due to its resource limitations (computational power, energy, and security). Hence, it is urgently needed to refine the IoT-based application’s architectures to robustly manage the overall IoT infrastructure. Software-defined networking (SDN) has emerged as a paradigm that offers software-based controllers to manage hardware infrastructure and traffic flow on a network effectively. SDN architecture has the potential to provide efficient and reliable IoT network management. This research provides a comprehensive survey investigating the published studies on SDN-based frameworks to address IoT management issues in the dimensions of fault tolerance, energy management, scalability, load balancing, and security service provisioning within the IoT networks. We conducted a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on the research studies (published from 2010 to 2021) focusing on SDN-based IoT management frameworks. We provide an extensive discussion on various aspects of SDN-based IoT solutions and architectures. We elaborate a taxonomy of the existing SDN-based IoT frameworks and solutions by classifying them into categories such as network function virtualization, middleware, OpenFlow adaptation, and blockchain-based management. We present the research gaps by identifying and analyzing the key architectural requirements and management issues in IoT infrastructures. Finally, we highlight various challenges and a range of promising opportunities for future research to provide a roadmap for addressing the weaknesses and identifying the benefits from the potentials offered by SD
