Collaborative Service Provisioning for UAV-Assisted Mobile Edge Computing

Unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing(MEC), as a way of coping with delaysensitive and computing-intensive tasks, is considered to be a key technology to solving the challenges of terrestrial MEC networks. In this work, we study the problem of collaborative service provisioning(CSP) for UAV-assisted MEC. Specifically, taking into account the task latency and other resource constraints, this paper investigates how to minimize the total energy consumption of all terrestrial user equipments, by jointly optimizing computing resource allocation, task offloading, UAV trajectory, and service placement. The CSP problem is a non-convex mixed integer nonlinear programming problem, owing to the complex coupling of mixed integral variables and non-convexity of CSP. To address the CSP problem, this paper proposes an alternating optimization-based solution with the convergence guarantee as follows. We iteratively deal with the joint service placement and task offloading subproblem, and UAV movement trajectory subproblem, by branch and bound and successive convex approximation, respectively,while the closed form of the optimal computation resource allocation can be efficiently obtained. Extensive simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm compared to three baselines.

Skeletal muscle ultrasound has emerged as a pivotal imaging modality in rheumatology clinics, offering unparalleled advantages such as radiation-free imaging, safety, and dynamic examination capabilities. However, its reliance on operator expertise often leads to inconsistent interpretations and diagnostic variability. In this study, we present a novel diagnostic system aimed at detecting rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in the wrist joint, with a focus on identifying synovial hypertrophy and effusion using musculoskeletal ultrasound images. Leveraging deep learning techniques, specifically semantic segmentation models, we introduce SEAT-UNet, which combines the U-Net architecture with a self-attention mechanism to enhance the accuracy of lesion classification and localization. SEAT-UNet addresses the challenge of discontinuous dispersion encountered in conventional segmentation models, particularly when delineating lesion areas. Our experimental results demonstrate exceptional performance, achieving a sensitivity and Dice coefficient of 100% and 84%, respectively, in synovial hypertrophy detection, and 86% sensitivity with an 84% Dice coefficient in effusion detection. These findings underscore the potential of SEAT-UNet as a valuable tool for early RA diagnosis, offering improved patient outcomes and facilitating more effective disease management strategies. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

This paper introduces a novel methodology for designing secure hardware accelerator tailored for convolutional neural network (CNN) applications, leveraging security-aware high-level synthesis (HLS). The methodology outlined offers comprehensive security measures, including hindrance against reverse engineering (RE) and intellectual property (IP) piracy concerns through architectural transformations and embedded biometric palmprint constraints, respectively. Key contributions of this methodology include: i) robust hindrance against RE attack, ii) robust piracy detection with no additional design overhead, iii) definitive proof of IP ownership by achieving significantly lower probability of coincidence (P), indicating lower probability of false positive, and iv) enhanced tamper tolerance (TT) and resilience against brute force attacks compared to recent methodologies. © 2024 IEEE.

The CloudIoT paradigm has profoundly transformed the healthcare industry, providing outstanding innovation and practical applications. However, despite its many advantages, the adoption of this paradigm in healthcare settings remains limited. There is a lack of comprehensive understanding of the factors that ensure successful implementation. To address this issue, we have used the Analytic Hierarchy Process to prioritize 26 factors that could potentially influence the adoption of CloudIoT-based healthcare. These factors were derived from existing literature and categorized into four main groups: personal-specific, technology-specific, environment-specific, and organization-specific factors. Our findings revealed that performance expectancy, trust, facilitating conditions, task complexity, and perceived security are the top five critical factors influencing CloudIoT-based healthcare adoption. Interestingly, our results indicated that environmental factors were less influential than those in the other categories, with personal, technological, and organizational factors dominating the top ten significant factors. The insights from this study can help policymakers, CloudIoT service providers, healthcare providers, designers, and developers better understand the factors contributing to the successful implementation of CloudIoT-based healthcare. Automatic text inpainting and quality elevation in video sequences

Scene text removal is a recent development in computer vision that replaces text patches in natural images with the appropriate background. Text removal is a difficult process leading to faulty areas of text containing text strokes with their hazy backgrounds. Text in the real world uses a variety of font kinds, some of which are difficult to localize due to their chaotic shapes, varied shading degrees, and orientation *** text erasing may include the subtasks of text detection as well as text inpainting. Both subtasks require a large amount of data to be successful;but, existing approaches were limited by insufficient real-world data for scene-text elimination. Eventhough the existing works produced considerable performance improvement in scene text removal, they often leave many text remains like text strokes, thus producinglow-quality visual outcomes. Therefore, this paper proposes an automatic text inpainting and video quality elevation model by using the Improved Convolutional Network-based ***, the video samples are collected from the diverse datasets and then converted into frames. Next, the frames are deblurred using an enhanced Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model that has three convolutional layers for accurately localizing the texts in frames. Subsequently, the texts are detected by utilizing the CLARA-based VGG-16 network. Afterward, the text strokes are removed using a convolutional Encoder and decoder network to eliminate the presence of text on complex backgrounds and textures. Here, the coordinates of text in the deblurred frames are used to crop out the text stroke regions. So, the texts are in-painted, and then, the text in-painted regions are pasted back to their original positions in the frames. Furthermore, the video quality is elevated with the help of the DenseNet-centric Enhancement network. Unstructured Numerical Image Dataset Separation (UNIDS) method employing an enhanced unsupervised clustering technique. The objective is to delineate an optimal number of distinct groups within the input grayscale (G-S) image content, utilizing the improved limited iteration agglomerative clustering (iLIAC) clustering technique for the separation and enhancement of picture elements. The UNIDS method is structured into two primary stages: partitioning and validation. In the partitioning stage, the UNIDS method identifies an appropriate number of discrete clusters within the grayscale image using the iLIAC technique, eliminating the need for predetermined procedures. Subsequently, the method evaluates the similarity and deviation among data elements within the same group in the resultant image dataset. Additionally, it assesses the proximity and inters severance among clusters in the outcome of the image dataset through the partitioning process. Empirical results indicate that the UNIDS system excels in the spontaneous identification of an optimal number of discrete clusters within the input G-S image. The system demonstrates superior thickness, reduced deviation among data elements within the same cluster, increased inter-separation, and diminished inter-closeness between cluster elements. Furthermore, empirical analysis establishes the superior performance of the UNIDS approach compared to existing clustering techniques. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Downsampling consistency correction-based quality enhancement for CNN-based light field image super-resolution

In recent years, numerous CNN-based light field (LF) image super-resolution (SR) methods have been developed. However, due to the downsampling inconsistency between low-resolution (LR) testing LF images and LR training LF images, they may suffer from quality degradation. To address this quality degradation issue, this paper proposes a downsampling consistency correction-based (DCC-based) quality enhancement method. Firstly, a quality-based voting strategy is introduced to identify the downsampling scheme used in the training step. Next, a cascaded Swin Transformer-based recognizer is proposed to identify the downsampled position and downsampling scheme used in the LR testing LF image, after which the proposed DCC-based method is employed to significantly improve the quality of the upsampled LF image. Comprehensive experiments have been conducted on typical LF image datasets to demonstrate the significant quality improvement achieved by our method in comparison to state-of-the-art LF SR methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Prediction of strength properties of concrete under the influence of recycled aggregate using machine learning models

The upsurge in urbanization is depleting natural resources due to the wide usage of aggregates in construction, posing a menace to further progress. If the contemporary state persists, it becomes a threat for further progress. As an initiative to preserve the natural resources, recycled aggregate is employed as a partial additive of fine aggregate, this practice endorses sustainability but demands a cautious investigation of its effect on concrete strength. Predicting the strength characteristics of concrete becomes crucial in this situation. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms estimate these properties, enabling engineers to evaluate and enhance the concrete mix with recycled materials, confirming durability and performance without solely depending on outdated testing methods The proposed work attempts how ML algorithms have been utilized to forecast the strength properties of concrete. Input samples were collected from the experimental setup for three grades of concrete (M15, M20, M25) with four various proportions (5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) at 7, 14, 21 and 28 ages of curing excluding the conventional mix. The ML models are developed by training the collected laboratory samples with respect to four parameters– cement, fine aggregate (FA), coarse aggregate (CA) and recycled aggregate (RA). The trained models predict the three properties of concrete– compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength. The test outcomes are further validated using statistical measures such as correlation coefficient– R2, Mean Square Error (MSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) to assess the performance of the model. The performance evaluation of the proposed approach shows that The Support Vector Regressor outperforms the other ML models, achieving an R² value of about 90% and showing a reduced error rate in terms of MSE and MAE. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Predicting Student Behavior Using a Neutrosophic Deep Learning Model

We developed an information system using an object-oriented programming language and a distributed database (DDB) consisting of multiple interconnected databases across a computer network, managed by a distributed database management system (DDBMS) for easy access. An intelligent system was designed to assess the difficulty level of preliminary exams and select top-performing advanced students using a Neutrosophic Deep Learning Model. The dataset was randomly split into training (80%) and testing (20%) sets, and the model, trained with the Adam optimizer at a 0.001 learning rate over 50 epochs, incorporated early stopping based on validation loss. This system, implemented at a traditional Egyptian university, achieved a 95% accuracy in predicting student dropout. Student behavior, influenced by personal, environmental, and academic factors, is often evaluated subjectively, leading to inconsistent results. Traditional machine learning approaches struggle with the inherent uncertainty in behavioral data. To address this, we combined neutrosophic theory—a mathematical framework that accounts for truth, falsity, and indeterminacy—with deep learning, which excels at learning complex data relationships, to predict student outcomes such as dropout rates. Evaluating the model on student data, including attendance and grades, showed superior accuracy, achieving a determination coefficient of 0.95, demonstrating the approach's potential for identifying at-risk students and enabling targeted interventions. © 2025, University of New Mexico.
