Indoor Navigation System (INS) supports seamless movement of objects within confined spaces in smart environments. In this paper, a novel INS that relies on ESP32-based Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) measurements for precise estimation of distance using K-Nearest Neighbour (K-NN) algorithm is proposed. The system architecture includes three ESP32 nodes functioning as clients, and ESP8266 combined with ESP32 acting as a server. To overcome the limitations of Global Positioning System (GPS) within an indoor environment, Machine Learning (ML)-based prediction models are employed to estimate distance between nodes and predict user locations along with the distance between source and destination. This approach not only addresses the challenges posed by GPS in indoor settings, but also shows the potential of ESP32 devices and predictive algorithms for enhancing navigation accuracy and reliability. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Many applications widely use broadcast communications (BC) due to their efficiency in simultaneously distributing data to many receivers. More specifically, BC is essential in resource-constrained devices (RCDs) for conserving energy and bandwidth, which are vital for increasing the longevity and performance of RCDs. The three major challenges in BC are source authentication, data integrity and continuous authentication (CA). The first two challenges are effectively addressed in TESLA and its variants. However, achieving CA without incurring overheads on the sender and receiver sides remains an unresolved challenge. In this paper, we propose Infinite (Inf) TESLA++, assisted by Blockchain and smart contracts, to address the CA challenge with minimal overhead at sender and receiver. Our theoretical and simulation analysis demonstrates that Inf-TESLA++ incurs minimal overhead compared to existing protocols while eliminating the need for direct communication between the sender and receiver for synchronization. © 2024 IEEE.

Currently,edge Artificial Intelligence(AI)systems have significantly facilitated the functionalities of intelligent devices such as smartphones and smart cars,and supported diverse applications and *** fundamental supports come from continuous data analysis and computation over these *** the resource constraints of terminal devices,multi-layer edge artificial intelligence systems improve the overall computing power of the system by scheduling computing tasks to edge and cloud servers for *** efforts tend to ignore the nature of strong pipelined characteristics of processing tasks in edge AI systems,such as the encryption,decryption and consensus algorithm supporting the implementation of Blockchain ***,this paper proposes a new pipelined task scheduling algorithm(referred to as PTS-RDQN),which utilizes the system representation ability of deep reinforcement learning and integrates multiple dimensional information to achieve global task ***,a co-optimization strategy based on Rainbow Deep Q-Learning(RainbowDQN)is proposed to allocate computation tasks for mobile devices,edge and cloud servers,which is able to comprehensively consider the balance of task turnaround time,link quality,and other factors,thus effectively improving system performance and user *** addition,a task scheduling strategy based on PTS-RDQN is proposed,which is capable of realizing dynamic task allocation according to device *** results based on many simulation experiments show that the proposed method can effectively improve the resource utilization,and provide an effective task scheduling strategy for the edge computing system with cloud-edge-end architecture.

The healthcare system currently relies on the facility to store and process large amounts of health data, supported by efficient management. The Internet of Things (IoT) has driven the growth of Adroit Healthcare, which has vast data processing capabilities and extensive data collection. The consumer IoT (CIoT), also known as the IoT in the context of individual use cases, is dominated by personal healthcare applications. The remarkable expansion of the CIoT can be attributed to the extensive embrace of wearable technology, facilitating everyday monitoring of vital health indicators like blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration rate. However, the CIoT raises concerns about data security, confidentiality, and customer trust. This study proposes an integrating blockchain and deep learning (DL) approach to promote responsible use of CIoT. The study develops an Intelligent IoT (IIoT) and healthcare diagnostic model, named BT-PWO-DRNN-LSTM, using blockchain technology and Prairie Wolf optimization-based deep recuperator neural network (DRNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM). The BT-PWO-DRNN-LSTM approach includes three key processes: 1) encrypted transactions;2) cryptographic hash feature;and 3) medical diagnosis. The PWO technique is used for secure communication of medical images, the neighborhood catalogue disposition (NCD) technique is used in the cryptographic hash feature operation (CHFO), and the DL approach is employed as a classification algorithm for diagnosing disorders. The use of PWO methodology for secure healthcare communication and optimal parameter fine-tuning highlights the originality of the study. The BT-PWO-DRNN-LSTM prototype showed positive results with high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy during the diagnostic process. © 2014 IEEE.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been recently leveraged in massive amount of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. However, given the stringent limitations of UAVs, investigating their performance in terms of their energy efficiency, tasks accuracy, and security has gained much interest recently. In this paper, we study the deployment of Federated Learning (FL) within the UAV swarms, with the aim of avoiding data exchange between different swarm's members. Specifically, we propose a secure FL framework for UAV swarms, such that the energy efficiency is maximized, while enhancing the learning performance. The suggested approach takes into account the issue of data imbalance in FL in addition to the strict energy and security limits placed on the *** findings show how effective our framework is in terms of security, energy efficiency, and classification accuracy when compared to baseline systems that don't take security or data imbalance into account. © 2024 IEEE.

In early December 2019,the city of Wuhan,China,reported an outbreak of coronavirus disease(COVID-19),caused by a novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2).On January 30,2020,the World Health Organization(WHO)declared the outbreak a global pandemic *** the face of the COVID-19 pandemic,the most important step has been the effective diagnosis and monitoring of infected *** COVID-19 using Machine Learning(ML)technologies can help the health care unit through assistive diagnostic suggestions,which can reduce the health unit's burden to a certain *** paper investigates the possibilities of ML techniques in identifying/detecting COVID-19 patients including both conventional and exploring from chest X-ray images the effect of viral *** approach includes preprocessing,feature extraction,and ***,the features are extracted using the Histogram of Oriented(HOG)and Local Binary Pattern(LBP)feature ***,for the extracted features classification,six ML models of Support Vector Machine(SVM)and K-Nearest Neighbor(KNN)is *** results show that the diagnostic accuracy of random forest classifier(RFC)on extracted HOG plusLBP features is as high as 94%followed by SVM at 93%.The sensitivity of the K-nearest neighbour model has reached an accuracy of 88%.Overall,the predicted approach has shown higher classification accuracy and effective diagnostic *** is a highly useful tool for clinical practitioners and radiologists to help them in diagnosing and tracking the cases of COVID-19.

XEMLPD: an explainable ensemble machine learning approach for Parkinson disease diagnosis with optimized features

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disorder that gradually worsens over time, making early diagnosis difficult. Traditionally, diagnosis relies on a neurologist's detailed assessment of the patient's medical history and multiple scans. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI)-based computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have demonstrated superior performance by capturing complex, nonlinear patterns in clinical data. However, the opaque nature of many AI models, often referred to as "black box" systems, has raised concerns about their transparency, resulting in hesitation among clinicians to trust their outputs. To address this challenge, we propose an explainable ensemble machine learning framework, XEMLPD, designed to provide both global and local interpretability in PD diagnosis while maintaining high predictive accuracy. Our study utilized two clinical datasets, carefully curated and optimized through a two-step data preprocessing technique that handled outliers and ensured data balance, thereby reducing bias. Several ensemble machine learning (EML) models—boosting, bagging, stacking, and voting—were evaluated, with optimized features selected using techniques such as SelectedKBest, mRMR, PCA, and LDA. Among these, the stacking model combined with LDA feature optimization consistently delivered the highest accuracy. To ensure transparency, we integrated explainable AI methods—SHapley Adaptive exPlanations (SHAP) and Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations (LIME)—into the stacking model. These methods were applied post-evaluation, ensuring that each prediction is accompanied by a detailed explanation. By offering both global and local interpretability, the XEMLPD framework provides clear insights into the decision-making process of the model. This transparency aids clinicians in developing better treatment strategies and enhances the overall prognosis for PD patients. This paper presents a novel approach aimed at developing a secure secret key-sharing system optimized for resource-constrained Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Focusing on the MQTT protocol, the research endeavors to establish secure communication channels between IoT devices and brokers, thereby enhancing the overall security of MQTT-based IoT deployments. This research introduces a novel Dynamic Lightweight Authentication for MQTT (DLA-MQTT) mechanism designed to the unique needs of IoT devices operating under the MQTT protocol. The DLA-MQTT mechanism leverages an innovative lightweight Generalized Feedback Shift Register (GFSR)-based Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) to generate ephemeral keys, ensuring secure communication while addressing the limitations of computational power and energy resources. Through a detailed comparative analysis with existing cryptographic solutions, the DLA-MQTT mechanism demonstrates superior performance in terms of computational overhead, energy consumption, and execution time, while maintaining robust security against common attacks such as Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) and Denial of Service (DoS). he proposed algorithm's adaptability and scalability are validated using the Cooja simulator, where simulated IoT networks are subjected to various threat scenarios. The results confirm the DLA-MQTT mechanism's efficacy, showcasing a significant reduction in resource utilization without compromising the strength of the security provided. © 2025 The Authors.
