Common guidelines followed in the animation community include the idea that cartoon characters should be exaggerated to better convey emotion and intent, whereas more realistic characters should have “matching” realistic motion. We investigated the effects of rendering style and amount of facial motion on perceptions of character likeability, intelligence, and extraversion. We used cartoon and more realistic-looking characters that were animated with tracked actor motion. The motion was exaggerated and damped in 10% increments up to a 40% difference from the original motion. We discovered that motion changes ±20% from original motion affected perceptions of likeability and intelligence differently in the realistic-looking and cartoon characters. The realistic-looking characters benefited from increased motion whereas the cartoon characters benefitted from damped motion. Furthermore, the amount of facial motion and perceptions of extraversion were significantly correlated.

With the enormous growth of online reviews in Internet, sentiment analysis has received more and more attention in information retrieval and natural language processing community. Up to now there are very few researches conducted on sentiment analysis for Persian documents. This paper considers the problem of sentiment classification for online customer reviews in Persian language. One of the challenges of Persian language is using of a wide variety of declensional suffixes. Another common problem of Persian text is word spacing. In Persian in addition to white space as interwords space, an intra-word space called pseudo-space separates word's part. One more noticeable challenge in customer reviews in Persian language is that of utilizing many informal or colloquial words in text. In this paper we study these challenges by proposing a model for sentiment classification of Persian review documents. The proposed model is based on a lemmatization approach for Persian language and is employed Naive Bayes learning algorithm for classification. Additionally we present a new feature selection method based on the mutual information method to extract the best feature collection from the initial extracted features. Finally we evaluate the performance of the model on a manually gathered collection of cellphone reviews, where the results show the effectiveness of the proposed model.

We explore the feasibility of using crowd workers from Amazon Mechanical Turk to identify and rank sidewalk accessibility issues from a manually curated database of 100 Google Street View images. We examine the effect of three different interactive labeling interfaces Point, Rectangle, and Outlineon task accuracy and duration. We close the paper by discussing limitations and opportunities for future work.

This paper describes a machine learning approach to evaluate the relationship between trust behavior and Situation Awareness (SA) in the context of a 3-player Iterated Diner's Dilemma game. Our experimental setup consisted of a supervised study in which 24 participants played against computer opponents with different cooperation strategies. Three user interfaces were evaluated in the study, each corresponding to a specific level of SA (Perception, Comprehension, and Projection). Two concepts of trust are explored in the study: Empirical trust behavior was recorded as the degree of cooperation imparted by the participant in a given condition, and Self-reported trust assessments were also collected at regular intervals throughout the study. To explore the relations that exist between these two concepts of trust, and different SA Level conditions, a machine learning approach was applied to train a variety of models to accurately predict trust behavior in each condition. Our best performing algorithm was a J48 rule-based learner, which leveraged SA Level, strategy, and self-reported survey data to predict trust behavior to 76% accuracy, and 67% accuracy using only SA Level and opponent strategy. This is a relative increase of 43% and 24% respectively over a benchmark majority class predictor. These results indicate that support at a level of SA and opponent strategy are good predictors of trust behavior in the Iterated Diner's Dilemma game. Our results also show that trust-prediction models perform best when they are trained on a combination of self-reported data, and strategy / SA Level information.
