This paper explores the dynamics of rice production in the Chinese provinces of Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang and seeks to predict monthly rice production in the months of April through October using precipitation and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index as the predictor variables available. We utilize ridge and lasso regression models to predict the rice yield. Results indicate that a lasso regression model with an R2 value of 0.9991501 with an adjusted R2 value of 0.9991502 and a ridge regression model with an R2 value of 0.9865443 with an adjusted R2 value of 0.9870637 are possible. The lasso regression model does not account for all predictor variables while the ridge regression model does. Both models could be expanded upon to include more observations. © 2022 IEEE.

Histopathological examination of tissue slides is considered the gold standard for clinical cancer diagnosis. However, it heavily relies on pathologists' subjective judgment and involves substantial workload. Existing convolutional neural network (CNN)-based whole slide image (WSI) diagnostic methods suffer from high annotation costs and complex data acquisition processes. Therefore, this study proposes a weakly supervised multiple instance learning method based on self-supervised contrastive learning (CL-MIL) for WSI classification. By integrating self-supervised contrastive learning strategies, leveraging data augmentation through H&E stain separation, and introducing causal intervention via backdoor adjustment to mitigate dataset bias, our approach significantly enhances feature representation and classification performance in pathological images. Experimental results on the Camelyon16 and TCGA lung cancer datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms other comparable WSI classification models across various evaluation metrics, achieving higher diagnostic efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, our method exhibits good interpretability, enabling precise localization of pathological regions and providing robust technical support for clinical applications.

Remote Attestation (RA) is a security service by which a Verifier (Vrf) can verify the platform state of a remote Prover (Prv). However, in most existing RA schemes, the Prv might be vulnerable to denial of service (DoS) attacks due to the interactive challenge-response methodology while there is no authentication about the challenge. Worse, many schemes cannot effectively detect mobile malware that can be inactive during the on-demand attestation launched by the Vrf. In this paper, we propose a self-measurement RA for SGX-based platforms, which can effectively mitigate DoS attacks and defend against mobile malware. To this end, a two-way identity authentication is first enforced between the Prv and Vrf with the help of a blockchain system, in which a shared session key is also generated. Secondly, trigger conditions of measurements on the Prv's side are time points generated by the Prv self instead of Vrf's requests. The Vrf can retrieve multiple self-measurement results during one execution of the protocol to monitor the Prv's platform over a period of time continuously, which can detect mobile malware effectively. Our scheme utilizes SGX to provide the runtime protection for sensitive information such as session key, self-measurement code, time points of self-measurements, and self-measurement results, making a higher security guarantee. In addition, the session key, time points of self-measurements, and self-measurement code can be changed or upgraded, making our scheme more flexible and scalable. The simulation implementation and results show that our scheme is feasible and practical. © 2022 IEEE.

LaCo: Large Language Model Pruning via Layer Collapse

Large language models (LLMs) based on transformer are witnessing a notable trend of size expansion, which brings considerable costs to both model training and inference. However, existing methods such as model quantization, knowledge distillation, and model pruning are constrained by various issues, including hardware support limitations, the need for extensive training, and alterations to the model internal structure. In this paper, we propose a concise layer-wise structured pruner called Layer Collapse (LaCo), in which rear model layers collapse into a prior layer, enabling a rapid reduction in model size while preserving the model structure. Comprehensive experiments show that our method maintains an average task performance of over 80% at pruning ratios of 25-30%, significantly outperforming existing state-of-the-art structured pruning methods. We also conduct post-training experiments to confirm that the LaCo effectively inherits the parameters of the original model. Additionally, we perform ablation studies on various settings of LaCo. Emotion recognition is crucial for human–computer interaction, and electroencephalography (EEG) stands out as a valuable tool for capturing and reflecting human emotions. In this study, we propose a hierarchical hybrid model called Mixed Attention-based Convolution and Transformer Network (MACTN). This model is designed to collectively capture both local and global temporal information and is inspired by insights from neuroscientific research on the temporal dynamics of emotions. First, we introduce depth-wise temporal convolution and separable convolution to extract local temporal features. Then, a self-attention-based transformer is used to integrate the sparse global emotional features. Besides, channel attention mechanism is designed to identify the most task-relevant channels, facilitating the capture of relationships between different channels and emotional states. Extensive experiments are conducted on three public datasets under both offline and online evaluation modes. In the multi-class cross-subject online evaluation using the THU-EP dataset, MACTN demonstrates an approximate 8% enhancement in 9-class emotion recognition accuracy in comparison to state-of-the-art methods. In the multi-class cross-subject offline evaluation using the DEAP and SEED datasets, a comparable performance is achieved solely based on the raw EEG signals, without the need for prior knowledge or transfer learning during the feature extraction and learning process. Furthermore, ablation studies have shown that integrating self-attention and channel-attention mechanisms improves classification performance. Rethinking Masked Language Modeling for Chinese Spelling Correction

In this paper, we study Chinese Spelling Correction (CSC) as a joint decision made by two separate models: a language model and an error model. Through empirical analysis, we find that fine-tuning BERT tends to over-fit the error model while under-fit the language model, resulting in poor generalization to out-of-distribution error patterns. Given that BERT is the backbone of most CSC models, this phenomenon has a significant negative impact. To address this issue, we are releasing a multi-domain benchmark LEMON, with higher quality and diversity than existing benchmarks, to allow a comprehensive assessment of the open domain generalization of CSC models. Then, we demonstrate that a very simple strategy – randomly masking 20% non-error tokens from the input sequence during fine-tuning – is sufficient for learning a much better language model without sacrificing the error model. Empower Nested Boolean Logic via Self-Supervised Curriculum Learning

Beyond the great cognitive powers showcased by language models, it is crucial to scrutinize whether their reasoning capabilities stem from strong generalization or merely exposure to relevant data. As opposed to constructing increasingly complex logic, this paper probes into the boolean logic, the root capability of a logical reasoner. We find that any pre-trained language models even including large language models only behave like a random selector in the face of multi-nested boolean logic, a task that humans can handle with ease. To empower language models with this fundamental capability, this paper proposes a new self-supervised learning method Curriculum Logical Reasoning (CLR), where we augment the training data with nested boolean logic chain step-by-step, and program the training from simpler logical patterns gradually to harder ones. This new training paradigm allows language models to effectively generalize to much harder and longer-hop logic, which can hardly be learned through naive training. Contrastive clustering has recently been an emerging topic in deep unsupervised learning. Nevertheless, the previous works mostly adopt the stochastic data augmentations, which easily leads to the semantic drift problem by limited transformations. Moreover, these approaches ignore the data distribution information when generating the positive and negative pair-wise samples. In light of this, this paper proposes a simple yet effective unsupervised clustering network termed Confidence-oriented Contrastive Graph Clustering (CoCGC). Particularly, we design an end-to-end network paradigm with un-shared weights, among which a hybrid graph filter is utilized to generate two views of reliable augmentations. Guided by the non-dominated sorting theory, we further construct a confidence-oriented sample set from the latent data distribution perspective. By considering the local density and cluster distribution of the embedding representations, the discriminative sample pairs can be derived from the confidence-oriented sets in a two-view contrastive manner. Finally, a cross-view neighbor contrastive loss is devised for better exploiting the self-supervised network signals. Extensive experimental results on five benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method against the existing state-of-the-art deep graph clustering methods.
