This study demonstrates the implementation of multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) transmission donut modes in space wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) over multi-mode optical fiber (MMOF) and simulating the effect of mode coupling of the transmitted signal. However, during the data transmitted over MMF by using SWDM an issue is encountered, which is the inter symbol interference (ISI) due to mode coupling. ISI has been recognized as a major obstacle to high-speed data transmission. The signal processing in SDM of donut modes over MMOF with electrical feedback equalizer is used to improve the performance for increasing the bandwidth. A data rate 80 Gbit/s up for a distance of 1600 meters is achieved. SWDM topology was designed emitted from a spatial vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) through MMOF in conjunction with the configurations of electrical feedback equalizer. The parameters and values used in Opt-Sim simulation topology were listed. The performance measurement of this study based on bit-error rates (BER) and eye diagram before and after electrical feedback equalization were analysed.

In this paper, the process of design, and construction of a flexible gripper with three fingers is presented. The fingers of the proposed gripper are fabricated using a 3D printing device. The gripper is controlled remotely by an autonomous glove which is designed to help people with disability. In order to ameliorate the movement accuracy of the gripper a Fuzzy-PID controller is implemented on the system. The result of experimental tests demonstrate a decrease of the gripper movement error to less than 2 degrees in average. An ultrasonic sensor is set on the gripper's body to improve the grasping process by detecting the distance of the object to the gripper. The fabricated fingers are flexible and provides the ability of grasping the objects with irregular shapes. The experimental test approves the significant performance of the gripper in term of grasping complex shape objects.

Background: Common data models solve many challenges of standardizing electronic health record (EHR) data, but are unable to semantically integrate all the resources needed for deep phenotyping. Open Biological and Biomedical Ontology (OBO) Foundry ontologies provide computable representations of biological knowledge and enable the integration of heterogeneous data. However, mapping EHR data to OBO ontologies requires significant manual curation and domain expertise. Objective: We introduce OMOP2OBO, an algorithm for mapping Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) vocabularies to OBO ontologies. Results: Using OMOP2OBO, we produced mappings for 92,367 conditions, 8611 drug ingredients, and 10,673 measurement results, which covered 68-99% of concepts used in clinical practice when examined across 24 hospitals. When used to phenotype rare disease patients, the mappings helped systematically identify undiagnosed patients who might benefit from genetic testing. Conclusions: By aligning OMOP vocabularies to OBO ontologies our algorithm presents new opportunities to advance EHR-based deep phenotyping. © 2022, CC BY.

In sequence prediction tasks like neural machine translation, training with cross-entropy loss often leads to models that overgeneralize and plunge into local optima. In this paper, we propose an extended loss function called dual skew divergence (DSD) that integrates two symmetric terms on KL divergences with a balanced weight. We empirically discovered that such a balanced weight plays a crucial role in applying the proposed DSD loss into deep models. Thus we eventually develop a controllable DSD loss for general-purpose scenarios. Our experiments indicate that switching to the DSD loss after the convergence of ML training helps models escape local optima and stimulates stable performance improvements. Our evaluations on the WMT 2014 English-German and English-French translation tasks demonstrate that the proposed loss as a general and convenient mean for NMT training indeed brings performance improvement in comparison to strong baselines. This paper addresses design and control of a new suspended under-constrained cable-driven parallel robot with four cables. In order to improve the estimation of the cable lengths, an auxiliary roller screw mechanism is utilized to move the winch linearly for proper cable coiling on one layer. Also, for the sake of obtaining the pose of the robot in real-time, an angular rate sensor is embedded on the end-effector. The collected data from the angular rate sensor is used to make equivalent the solution of the forward geometric-static problem to the solution of linear system of equations. The foregoing reduced system can be readily solved and leads to the pose of the moving platform in real-time which is a definite asset in control. Moreover, kinematic problem of the cable-driven parallel robot is provided and a new method for obtaining the forward geometric-static problem is proposed.

Despite substantial declines since 2000, lower respiratory infections (LRIs), diarrhoeal diseases, and malaria remain among the leading causes of nonfatal and fatal disease burden for children under 5 years of age (under 5), primarily in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The spatial burden of each of these diseases has been estimated subnationally across SSA, yet no prior analyses have examined the pattern of their combined burden. Here we synthesise subnational estimates of the burden of LRIs, diarrhoea, and malaria in children under-5 from 2000 to 2017 for 43 sub-Saharan countries. Some units faced a relatively equal burden from each of the three diseases, while others had one or two dominant sources of unit-level burden, with no consistent pattern geographically across the entire subcontinent. Using a subnational counterfactual analysis, we show that nearly 300 million DALYs could have been averted since 2000 by raising all units to their national average. Our findings are directly relevant for decision-makers in determining which and targeting where the most appropriate interventions are for increasing child survival. © 2022, The Author(s).

Probing contextualized sentence representations with visual awareness

We present a universal framework to model contextualized sentence representations with visual awareness that is motivated to overcome the shortcomings of the multimodal parallel data with manual annotations. For each sentence, we first retrieve a diversity of images from a shared cross-modal embedding space, which is pre-trained on a large-scale of text-image pairs. Then, the texts and images are respectively encoded by transformer encoder and convolutional neural network. The two sequences of representations are further fused by a simple and effective attention layer. The architecture can be easily applied to text-only natural language processing tasks without manually annotating multimodal parallel corpora. We apply the proposed method on three tasks, including neural machine translation, natural language inference and sequence labeling and experimental results verify the effectiveness. Deepening Hidden Representations from Pre-trained Language Models for Natural Language Understanding

Transformer-based pre-trained language models have proven to be effective for learning contextualized language representation. However, current approaches only take advantage of the output of the encoder’s final layer when fine-tuning the downstream tasks. We argue that only taking single layer’s output restricts the power of pre-trained representation. Thus we deepen the representation learned by the model by fusing the hidden representation in terms of an explicit HIdden Representation Extractor (HIRE), which automatically absorbs the complementary representation with respect to the output from the final layer. Utilizing RoBERTa as the backbone encoder, our proposed improvement over the pre-trained models is shown effective on multiple natural language understanding tasks and help our model rival with the state-of-the-art models on the GLUE benchmark.
