We then describe the framework of our work and identify important biasing factors that must be taken into consideration. In this paper, we propose an environment-adaptive antipersonnel mine detection system called Advanced Mine Sweeper. Advanced Mine Sweeper is developed based on sensing technologies, access-control technologies and system integration technologies for safe and effective demining procedure after the Level II survey. Advanced Mine Sweeper consists of a sensing vehicle/unit, an access vehicle, and an assist vehicle. The sensing vehicle/unit is composed of an integrated sensor and a small-reaction sensor head manipulator. The access vehicle is parked facing a mine field in order to control the sensing unit position in a global area using its boom. The assist vehicle is parked keeping some distance from a mine field. It controls the sensing vehicle/unit and access vehicle and then displays the processed sensing information for landmine detection, receiving sensing information and sensing position. In this paper, we present preliminary work we have done on designing the TactaPack, a wearable sensor/actuator device that uses a Bluetooth wireless connection to return sensor data to a host, and to receive commands to initiate expressive vibrotactile stimuli. We present our work in the context of a physical therapy application designed to provide more autonomy for patients when performing rehabilitative exercises. This assistive technology has the potential to reduce injuries during therapy due to improper patient joint movement, and decrease the workload of physical therapists, thereby reducing healthcare costs. Though still in the early stages of design, we believe the TactaPack can be used to produce systems that are less cumbersome than current, wired solutions, and simplify the creation of high-level applications by offloading from the CPU to the device the process of sensing, testing against threshold values, and actuation.

In this paper we present our new approach to video data preparation for a data compression enhancement named video data syntactic coding. Video data standard encoders MPEG, H.26x use data preparation (preprocessing) based on either data spatial and temporal filtering or on video sequence complexity analysis (by auxiliary encoder use) that is exploited for video filtering. However, preprocessing efficiency is only 10% up to 15%. Our video data syntactic coding presented here is based on both video content complexity assessment in accordance with the named standard encoding algorithm (MC-DPCM) and data filtering adopted to the video complexity and a digital visual perception. The complexity is estimated by data entropy calculation based on averaging of histogram frame-to-frame changes. In addition, the histogram change is used for detection of new details appearance and their in-frame position determination. The video data model is based on a detail visual perception, and the above video content analysis results provide effective video data pre-filtering. The developed video syntactic coding used together with H.264 standard encoders presents up to 25% data compression enhancement

This paper summarizes our participation in the TREC 2006 spam track. We submitted a single filter for the evaluation, based on the Prediction by Partial Matching compression scheme, a method that performed well in the previous TREC evaluation. A major focus of our effort was to improve efficiency of the method, particularly in terms of memory consumption, in order to establish whether compressionbased filters are in fact a viable solution for practical applications. Our system exhibited fair performance, despite the fact that the filtering techniques remained virtually unchanged from the previous evaluation. We did not investigate methods for tackling delayed user feedback. A very simple strategy of training on most recent examples was used for the active learning task, and found to work surprisingly well given its simplicity.

In this paper, an approach to the finite-horizon optimal state-feedback control problem of nonlinear, stochastic, discrete-time systems is presented. Starting from the dynamic programming equation, the value function will be approximated by means of Taylor series expansion up to second-order derivatives. Moreover, the problem will be reformulated, such that a minimum principle can be applied to the stochastic problem. Employing this minimum principle, the optimal control problem can be rewritten as a two-point boundary-value problem to be solved at each time step of a shrinking horizon. To avoid numerical problems, the two-point boundary-value problem will be solved by means of a continuation method. Thus, the curse of dimensionality of dynamic programming is avoided, and good candidates for the optimal state-feedback controls are obtained. We propose two types of evolving networks: evolutionary Apollonian networks (EANs) and general deterministic Apollonian networks (GDANs), established by simple iteration algorithms. We investigate the two networks by both simulation and theoretical prediction. Analytical results show that both networks follow power-law degree distributions, with distribution exponents continuously tuned from 2 to 3. The accurate expression of clustering coefficient is also given for both networks. Moreover, the investigation of the average path length of EAN and the diameter of GDAN reveals that these two types of networks possess small-world feature. In addition, we study the collective synchronization behavior on some limitations of the EAN.

The Semantic Web search aims to overcome the bottleneck of finding relevant information using formal knowledge models, e.g. ontologies. The focus of this paper is to extend a typical search engine with semantic search over tabular structures. We categorize HTML documents into topics and genres. Using the TARTAR system, tabular structures in the documents are then automatically transformed into ontologies and annotated to build a knowledge base. When posting queries, users receive responses not just as lists of links and description extracts, but also enhanced with replies in the form of detailed structured data.
