Maintaining high-quality service supply and sustainability in modern cloud computing is essential to ensuring optimal system performance and energy efficiency. A novel approach is introduced in this study to decrease a system.s overall delay and energy consumption by utilising a deep reinforcement learning(DRL)model to predict and allocate incoming workloads flexibly. The proposed methodology integrates workload prediction utilising long short-term memory(LSTM)networks with efficient load-balancing techniques led by deep Q-learning and Actor-Critic algorithms. By continuously analysing current and historical data,the model can efficiently allocate resources,prioritizing speed and energy preservation. The experimental findings demonstrate that our load balancing system,which utilises DRL,significantly reduces average response times and energy usage compared to traditional methods. This approach provides a scalable and adaptable strategy for enhancing cloud infrastructure performance. It consistently provides reliable and durable performance across a range of dynamic workloads.

Developing upon open system architecture, Software-Defined Spacecraft, as a new generation of spacecraft, can support payload plug-and-play, application software loading as needed, and system function reconfiguration on demand. Therefore, the Software-Defined Spacecraft is able to solve the design and application limitations of traditional specific-designed spacecraft, making it become a significant developing trend of future spacecraft. Regarding to the software defined spacecraft bus, this paper analyzes the requirements for avionics system on the aspects of space field development, technology development and corresponding applications. Since the emergence of Pokémon Go in 2016, the world has been introduced to Augmented Reality (AR) games. Many IT companies have begun developing augmented reality (AR) games due to the great commercial potential in this industry. Certain products may have managed to remain viable in the market, while others were forced to close due to one or two factors. Since the emergence of Pokémon Go, no other game has managed to surpass its unprecedented success. The company responsible for developing Pokémon Go has decided to shut down one of their games due to a lack of consumer interest. The technology of augmented reality (AR) is consistently associated with the concept of immersion. Immersion is a key aspect of the game that allows users to deeply engage and feel fully involved in the experience. This study will employ a quantitative methodology, utilising a questionnaire that will be distributed to and completed by those who have engaged in augmented reality (AR) games. The data will be analysed using Smart PLS to examine the impact of user experience on immersion, which in turn influences intention. After gathering over 200 participants by spreading google form questionnaires and doing data analysis, the findings indicate that only a few aspects of user experience, namely Brand Experience and User Need Experience, have an impact on reasons. Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, was unable to replicate their success with a similar augmented reality game called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The initial release occurred on June 21, 2019, and the shutdown took place on December 21, 2021. In the beginning, they shown a profound enthusiasm for the game but were unable to sustain it, much as Pokémon Go. According to Niantic CEO John Hanke, the primary reason for the game's shutdown was its immersion. Reliable prediction of earthquakes has numerous societal and engineering benefits. In recent years, the exponentially rising volume of seismic data has led to the development of several automatic earthquake detection algorithms through machine learning approaches. In this study, we propose a fully functional and efficient earthquake detector cum forecaster based on deep neural networks of long-short-term memory (LSTM) units. The model captures inherent temporal characteristics of earthquake data. For illustration, we consider an earthquake catalog from the Himalaya and its neighboring regions. The proposed LSTM model shows satisfactory performance for small to medium-sized earthquakes. We also implement a baseline artificial neural network (ANN) model to perform a suitable comparison. It is observed that both ANN and LSTM models fail to produce desired result for large events. © 2022 IEEE.

OblivTime: Oblivious and Efficient Interval Skyline Query Processing Over Encrypted Time-Series Data

Time-series data is prevalent in many applications like smart homes, smart grids, and healthcare. And it is now increasingly common to store and query time-series data in the cloud. Despite the benefits, data privacy concerns in such outsourced services are pressing, making it imperative to embed privacy assurance mechanisms from the outset. Most existing related works have been focused on querying for different types of aggregate statistics. In this paper, we instead focus on the secure support for advanced interval skyline queries, which allow to identify time series that are not dominated by any other time series within a query time interval. This is valuable for time-series data analytics in applications like remote health monitoring (e.g., identifying patients with high heart rates in a certain week). We present OblivTime, a new system framework for oblivious and efficient interval skyline query processing over encrypted time-series data. OblivTime is built from a synergy of time-series data analytics, lightweight cryptography, and GPU parallel computing, achieving stronger security guarantees and lower online query latency over the state-of-the-art prior work. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OblivTime can achieve up to 666\times speedup in online query latency over the state-of-the-art prior work. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Intelligent supply line surveillance is critical for modern smart grids. Smart sensors and gateway nodes are strategically deployed along supply lines to achieve intelligent surveillance. They collect data continuously and transmit it to the control centre in real-time. It enables real-time monitoring, fault detection, and efficient energy management across distribution networks. This advanced surveillance system ensures continuous monitoring of supply lines, detecting anomalies, and optimizing operations to maintain the stability and reliability of the smart grid. However, the reliance of all participating nodes on public communication channels to transmit supply line surveillance data exposes these systems to critical cyber attacks. These cyber attacks include impersonation, physical tampering, ephemeral secret leakage, and desynchronization attacks. To address these issues, existing key-exchange protocols often fail to ensure robust security while imposing high computation and communication overheads, limiting their practicality for resource-constrained environments. Therefore, we propose a secure and efficient key exchange and tamper-resistant authentication protocol using Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs). The PUF mechanism provides robust resistance against physical tampering and cloning attacks, ensuring enhanced physical security for supply line devices. We validate the security robustness of the devised protocol using the Random or Real (ROR) model. Furthermore, informal security analysis demonstrates the protocol's robustness in rigorously resisting various attacks, including physical tampering, impersonation, ephemeral secret leakage and desynchronization. Moreover, we determine the performance evaluation that reveals the protocol's superior efficiency compared to competing protocols, achieving significant reductions of 28.64% in computation overhead and 9.96% in communication overhead. © 2014 IEEE.

Logistic Regression (LR) is a widely used statistical model for classification problems. However, its training and evaluation in a shared environment increase the possibility of information leaking. A federated LR reduces security issues by using only locally available data for training. In a Federated Learning (FL) environment, LR receives the coefficients of local models to create the federated LR model, which is then distributed to update the local models. The exchange process does not leak confidential information when LR coefficients are encrypted. Homomorphic Encryption (HE) allows the merging of local LR models with privacy preservation (HE-LR). This work presents a novel training policy to reduce the training time with only slightly decreased quality in an FL environment with HE. We analyze the accuracy and time of FL policies with HE-LR that progressively reduce the amount of training data and exchange the LR coefficients in a privacy-preserving manner. The results show that the proposed policy can speed up the training time between 12% and 69%, compared to the traditional FL approach, with an average decrease in accuracy of 1.79% and 1.95%. ©2024 IEEE.

In the last 3 years, the entire world has been facing the sanitary emergency due to the SARS-CoV2;it has been stressed the mutual interdependence of the human populations, as well as the strong impact of specific conditions, such as age, work, habits, on the disease spread among subgroups of a given population. Moreover, the high percentage of asymptomatic individuals, especially among young subjects, improves the infection spread among groups with higher probability of fatal consequences. The vaccination campaign has strongly contributed to reduce mortality, so bringing the epidemic scenario probably closer to the endemic state. Nevertheless, the loss of the vaccination protection, the appearance of new variants and the mixing of moving people require a surveillance action to reduce new virus waives. By suitable modeling and optimal control design, this paper addresses the planning of a swab test campaign for the surveillance of the disease spread within a given multi-group population, when resource limitation and distinctive epidemiological characteristics of the subgroups are present. The proposed approach, applied on a case study in which the population is split into four groups, stresses the importance of a suitable tuned swab test campaign, saving a significant number of infections (and therefore of human lives), by scheduling the surveillance effort on the different populations. The determination of this kind of control is useful not only in the endemic condition, but also as general surveillance strategy at the beginning of an epidemic spread, with limitations in material and logistic resources. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Accelerating the economic advantages of ICT is one of the finest methods for any nation to boost its economy. Due to the unique topography, governing laws, and cultural traditions of each nation, these colossal challenges must be confronted in each country. This comparative analysis aims to examine these aspects in further detail. To achieve the objectives of this study, research was conducted by collecting and analysing data from publicly accessible sources. This research compares Pakistan and other Asian countries' cybersecurity legislation, regulations, CERTs (national computer emergency response teams), CIIPs (computer intrusion prevention programs), and cyber security training and awareness. Among forty-eight Asian countries, the study focus on comparative analysis of major neighboring (developed or developing) countries of Pakistan such as Japan, China, Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Nepal, Iran, Malaysia, Jordan, India, and Bangladesh. Cyber security has not been a major concern in Pakistan for a very long time, perhaps due to the way the government operates and how slowly it adapts to new technology. Many Asian countries have only ever released one version of their national cyber security plan, whilst Pakistan has never released anything;some other Asian countries are also added in this group. © 2024 IEEE.

Integrated operating room planning and scheduling: an ILP-Based off-line approach for emergency responsiveness at a local hospital in Naples

This paper addresses a real-world Integrated Operating Room Planning and Scheduling (IORPS) problem encountered by a local hospital in Naples, characterized by stringent emergency management constraints, requiring treatment initiation within a 20-minute time-window. We tackle this problem by an original Integer Linear Programming formulation, capable of dealing with different operating room management strategies (open, block and block-modified). Our work differs from conventional cost-focused models by adopting a patient-oriented objective function, aligning with public hospitals obligations. The proposed method has been validated using real-world data provided by the hospital. The performed experimentation demonstrates the efficiency of the approach, capable of determining the optimal solution within an acceptable computation time that aligns with hospital requirements. Moreover, it also highlights the relevance of using our optimization approach to reduce delays in emergency responsiveness. This confirms its practical usage as a substitute for the current manual procedure. © The Author(s) 2024.
