Leveraging feature fusion ensemble of VGG16 and ResNet-50 for automated potato leaf abnormality detection in precision agriculture

In the era of advancement in technology and modern agriculture, early disease detection of potato leaves will improve crop yield. Various researchers have focussed on disease due to different types of microbial infection in potato leaves using computer vision and machine learning approaches. In this paper, a data science approach for multiclass classification of potato normal and abnormal leaves due to fungal infection like early blight and late blight is performed using the ensembling of deep learning (DL) CNN models. Firstly, the performance of classification on potato disease is verified separately on VGG16 and ResNet-50 CNN models after pre-processing of the leaf dataset. The pre-processing includes noise removal and normalization. Further improvement in classification accuracy is achieved by the ensembling of VGG16 and ResNet-50 CNN models. The ensembling of CNN models is performed on the feature level by fusing features extracted using VGG16 and ResNet-50. From the experimental results, performed on publicly available datasets consisting of 2152 number of normal and abnormal images it is observed that the average classification accuracy of 98.22%, 96.16% and 95.68% is achieved using the proposed ensemble, VGG16 and ResNet-50 models respectively. A Network Model to Study the Underlying Characteristics of Phishing Sites

In the rapidly evolving landscape of cyber threats, phishing continues to be a prominent vector for cyberattacks, posing significant risks to individuals, organizations and information systems. This letter delves into a comprehensive analysis of phishing sites, focusing on their distinctive characteristics through the lens of network perspectives. In this letter, we study the underlying characteristics of phishing sites from the hyperlinked connectivity perspectives. In this letter, we have used a phishing site dataset available at Mendeley data. As the dataset does not contain any hyperlinked information, We further collect the hyperlinks in each site and store that information in a JSON file. We further analyze the hyperlinks and the various features of those sites. The initial study reveals that though the Phishing sites mimic the original legitimate sites to trap people in their sites, it has distinct differences from the perspective of structural connectivity as well as the content of sites. © 2019 IEEE.

Unmanned and aerial systems as interactors among different system components for communications,have opened up great opportunities for truth data discovery in Mobile Crowd Sensing(MCS)which has not been properly solved in the *** this paper,an Unmanned Aerial Vehicles-supported Intelligent Truth Discovery(UAV-ITD)scheme is proposed to obtain truth data at low-cost communications for *** main innovations of the UAV-ITD scheme are as follows:(1)UAV-ITD scheme takes the first step in employing UAV joint Deep Matrix Factorization(DMF)to discover truth data based on the trust mechanism for an Information Elicitation Without Verification(IEWV)problem in MCS.(2)This paper introduces a truth data discovery scheme for the first time that only needs to collect a part of n data samples to infer the data of the entire network with high accuracy,which saves more communication costs than most previous data collection schemes,where they collect n or kn data ***,we conducted extensive experiments to evaluate the UAV-ITD *** results show that compared with previous schemes,our scheme can reduce estimated truth error by 52.25%–96.09%,increase the accuracy of workers’trust evaluation by 0.68–61.82 times,and save recruitment costs by 24.08%–54.15%in truth data discovery.

This article discusses the importance of cloud-based multi-tenancy in private–public-private secure cloud environments, which is achieved through the isolation of end-user data and resources into tenants to ensure data confidentiality and integrity. Maintaining secure access control is a complex and critical task in multi-tenant cloud environments, and researchers have proposed innovative methods for implementing security, privacy, and authenticity. However, several challenges remain. The proposed research addresses these challenges by presenting a layered approach to multi-tenancy in an enterprise-level cloud environment. The study has three main objectives: (1) to describe and analyze the complexities of enterprise-based multi-tenancy and proposed technical solutions in a tabular format;(2) to propose multi-tenant test cases across application, software, infrastructure, and network as a service environment;and (3) to present a collaborative, relational optimal key-based multi-tenancy access control model. The proposed access control model involves integrating various secure layers, such as intranet, extranet, intra-extranet, and using feasible relational optimal keys to provide secure multi-tenant access control among various tenants of single and multiple enterprises. This model provides secure data transmission by integrating various multi-layer data filters and secure blades. The layered multi-tenancy approach offers many benefits and technical feasibilities to avoid security and privacy issues in enterprise-based multi-tenant environments. The process achieved a 93% secure mapping rate to authenticate all IN and OUT data access transactions among the various multi-tenancy of similar and distinct enterprises. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Composite spectral spatial pixel CNN for land-use hyperspectral image classification with hybrid activation function

Deep learning methods have played a prominent role in the development of computer visualization in recent years. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is a popular analytical technique based on spectroscopy and visible imaging which examines the pattern of light in a target and recognizes objects based on varying spectral properties. However, in remote sensing, detecting surface material via HSI analysis is a critical and difficult task. The performance of spectral-spatial data exploitation is well established to outperform typical spectral pixel-wise techniques. Because of its great feature extraction ability, convolutional neural networks (CNN) have emerged as a potent deep learning approach. CNN translates the input features of an image into an equivalent CNN feature map, in addition to naturally combining spectral and spatial information. However, spectral-spatial properties when combined with pixel-wise extraction can learn more minute details of objects present on the earth’s terrain. In this paper, a noble Composite Spectral Spatial Pixel CNN model for the classification of hyperspectral data is presented which is an amalgamation of 3D-2D-1D CNN. While the 3D and 2D CNN exploit the spectral-spatial features effectively, 1D CNN works on pixel-wise feature extraction. Further, to optimize the classification performance of the proposed model, a new hybrid activation function Flatten-T Swish is also used which is the combination of ReLU and Swish function. The proposed model is compared with other state-of-the-art models based on three popular HSI datasets, and it is found that the proposed model performs better among others in terms of classification and computation time, giving 98.87% accuracy for Indian Pines, 99.92% accuracy for Pavia University, and 99.99% accuracy for Salinas Valley dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The immense volume of data generated and collected by smart devices has significantly enhanced various aspects of our daily lives. However, safeguarding the sensitive information shared among these devices is crucial. Ensuring the security of the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem from unauthorized access is imperative. Blockchain technology emerges as a promising solution to address these security concerns. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of Blockchain in handling the extensive data generated by smart devices is challenged by the rapid pace of IoT data generation and the slower transaction validation speed within Blockchain networks. This research aims to resolve these issues by integrating Blockchain with the Inter-Planetary File System (IPFS), creating a robust framework for secure data recording on a distributed storage network while enabling authorized access to the stored data. The proposed mechanism involves defining and recording access policies and cryptographic hash content on the Blockchain network, while storing the actual IoT-generated data on IPFS to enhance the confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) triad. Text steganography: enhanced character-level embedding algorithm using font attribute with increased resilience to statistical attacks

Text steganography, the science of hiding secret messages in innocent-looking text documents ensures the secrecy of the embedded secret. Cryptography, on the other hand, encrypts and converts the secret message into an unintelligible form ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and authentication of the message. It is to be noted that both steganography and cryptography are expected to work together hand-in-hand in order to attain a better security. Hence, a methodology that combines techniques from both steganography and cryptography is an unavoidable one for the complete protection of sensitive data. This paper aims to achieve one such methodology. The best existing method which works in similar direction is observed to use character spacing feature of text documents to embed the secrets. The method is reported to attain an average embedding capacity of ≈2 bits/cover-character and 8-bits/distortion with high imperceptibility and considerable cryptographic security. However, during experimentation, it is noticed that the methodology has the potential vulnerability of leaving clues for attackers with a probability of 0.51% which paves way for possible statistical attacks namely frequency analysis. This vulnerability occurred because of the constant left circular shift operation that is performed after embedding each secret character. This paper aims to address this vulnerability by proposing a novel modification that facilitates the methodology to perform both left and right circular shifts in an unbiased manner, based on the embedded secret, without affecting the notable achievements of the existing methodology. The proposed modification is successfully implemented, and further analysis indicated that the performed modification has in fact embedded the secret characters uniformly thereby reducing the standard deviation by 24%. This increased the resilience of the extended method to potential attacks that rely on statistical techniques. © The Author(s), under exclusive

Feedback-based trust module for IoT networks using machine learning

The increasing emergence of IoT in healthcare, industrial automation, manufacturing, infrastructure, business and the home undoubtedly provides more conveniences in different aspects of human life. Any IoT security and trust solution must consider the heterogeneity and mobility of IoT devices, and the features of other devices connected to the network. Traditional security measures face computation, storage and communication challenges in securing IoT, and the increasing reliance on IoT services and applications has exacerbated this issue. It is crucial to identify a security management model to handle these constraints. Trust as a security regime in the IoT has far-reaching implications. This paper proposes a novel trust-based security mechanism by combining machine learning and traditional summations to determine a node’s trustworthiness in an IoT environment in milliseconds. Based on this, a computational trust management model is designed by aggregating direct and feedback-based trust information. The model parameters like the trust breach window and trust re-initiation point are selected based on extensive experimentation to dynamically calculate each node’s trust value to reach the proposed model’s peak performance. The model’s effectiveness is verified through simulation. In 500 iterations, the proposed model achieved 97% accuracy with a run time of 0.37 seconds. Copyright © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Brain-inspired computing is a new technology that draws on the principles of brain science and is oriented to the efficient development of artificial general intelligence(AGI),and a brain-inspired computing system is a hierarchical system composed of neuromorphic chips,basic software and hardware,and algorithms/applications that embody this *** the system is developing rapidly,it faces various challenges and opportunities brought by interdisciplinary research,including the issue of software and hardware *** paper analyzes the status quo of brain-inspired computing *** by some design principle and methodology of general-purpose computers,it is proposed to construct"general-purpose"brain-inspired computing systems.A general-purpose brain-inspired computing system refers to a brain-inspired computing hierarchy constructed based on the design philosophy of decoupling software and hardware,which can flexibly support various brain-inspired computing applications and neuromorphic chips with different ***,this paper introduces our recent work in these aspects,including the ANN(artificial neural network)/SNN(spiking neural network)development tools,the hardware agnostic compilation infrastructure,and the chip micro-archi-tecture with high flexibility of programming and high performance;these studies show that the"general-purpose"system can remarkably improve the efficiency of application development and enhance the productivity of basic software,thereby being conductive to accelerating the advancement of various brain-inspired algorithms and *** believe that this is the key to the collaborative research and development,and the evolution of applications,basic software and chips in this field,and conducive to building a favorable software/hardware ecosystem of brain-inspired computing.
