Real-time Weed Identification Using Machine Learning and Image Processing in Oil Palm Plantations

The effectiveness and efficiency of the operation of oil palm plantations are considered to be the most crucial factor to develop the productivity and profitability of the palm oil business. One of the major obstacles for the plants to optimally produce crops based on their capacity is caused by the presence of noxious weeds in the plantation area. However, weed control via chemical processes may potentially harm the surrounding environment if it is not properly managed. Therefore, an automatic system to assist the farmers to identify and control the weeds is required to minimize harmful impacts on the environment. Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based systems provide powerful tools to perform such tasks. In this work, we aim for an ML-based system design to perform an automatic weed recognition task. The methodology can provide an effort for environmental sustainability in oil palm plantations. The weed identification involves the description, the local names, and tolerance class of the weeds as well as suggestions to control them. The flow of this work consists of weed and herbicide data acquisition, data labeling, model configurations, and data training. Further, the proposed system can be adopted as an android-based application in mobile devices that can deploy the trained model to predict weed category in both real-time and non-real-time tasks.

Indonesia's crude palm oil (CPO) production from year to year continues to increase, at the end of 2020 it reached 17.35 million tons, up 3.6% from the previous year. Increasing production will result in more CPO stock and require good storage. The storage process that occurs is to maintain the temperature of the CPO so that the quality is not damaged. This temperature regulation is still done manually and raises the risk of work accidents. The purpose of this research is to create a temperature control system and automatic volume measurement that can be monitored from a smartphone. The manufacture of a control system used ESP8266 NodeMCu microcontroller, temperature sensor, proximity sensor, and 1000-Watt heater. programming used the Arduino IDE and C++. The result of this study was an IoT CPO Storage Tank design equipped with sensors and microcontrollers. The temperature was measured with the DS18B20 sensor had a data accuracy of 99.19% while the volume measured with the HC-SR04 sensor had an accuracy of 99.78%. Data obtained from the sensor could be seen through the Thingspeak application from a computer or smartphone.

KEHATI AQUA Park is one of the green areas managed by PT. Tirta Investama Klaten (Klaten Factory). This area is located in Wangen and Ponggok Villages, Polanharjo District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, and is an integral part of the company’s seriousness in carbon reduction movement. When maintenance of the area is important for the sustainability of the park, there is however no data on the trees inventory in the area. Therefore, this study aims to invent the trees at KEHATI AQUA Park and evaluate the potential of the area to become a carbon sink using *** application. This study was conducted at the KEHATI AQUA Park. The census method was performed to collect tree data, and the result was recorded in *** application. The carbon stock calculation was estimated using the application according to the tree data submitted in the application. The study included a total of 1048 plantation spots in 51 tree species. From those numbers, about 738 trees existed, and the remaining spots were blank spaces. Based on the condition of the trees, those were 660 good trees, 17 dry trees, and 61 under pest infection. The carbon stock estimation at KEHATI AQUA Park Klaten in the next five years (2026) is around 40 tons of carbon. Therefore, it can be concluded that the park is valuable as an area to preserve biodiversity and as a carbon sink.

Dynamic processes on networks, be it information transfer in the Internet, contagious spreading in a social network, or neural signaling, take place along shortest or nearly shortest paths. Unfortunately, our maps of most large networks are substantially incomplete due to either the highly dynamic nature of networks, or high cost of network measurements, or both, rendering traditional path finding methods inefficient. We find that shortest paths in large real networks, such as the network of protein-protein interactions (PPI) and the Internet at the autonomous system (AS) level, are not random but are organized according to latent-geometric rules. If nodes of these networks are mapped to points in latent hyperbolic spaces, shortest paths in them align along geodesic curves connecting endpoint nodes. We find that this alignment is sufficiently strong to allow for the identification of shortest path nodes even in the case of substantially incomplete networks. We demonstrate the utility of latent-geometric path finding in problems of cellular pathway reconstruction and communication security. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Cholera is a highly contagious and lethal waterborne disease induced by an infection with Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae) secreting cholera toxin (CTx). Cholera toxin subunit B (CTxB) from the CTx specifically binds with monosialo-tetra-hexosyl-ganglioside (GM1) found on the exterior cell membrane of an enterocyte. Owing to the pathological process of CTx, a biomimetic electrochemical biosensor (CCB) was developed by applying GM1-expressing Caco-2 cell membrane (CCM) on the electrode surface of the biosensor for CTx detection. Briefly, the electrode surface was functionalized with CCM using the vesicle fusion method. The specific binding between GM1 and CTxB on the electrode surface was verified using confocal laser scanning microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The CTxB detection performances of the CCB, including sensitivity, selectivity, and long-term stability, were determined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Based on the results, the CCB had an excellent limit of detection of ~11.46 nM and a detection range spanning 100 ng/mL - 1 mg/mL. Further, the CCB had high selectivity for the CTxB compared to different interfering molecules, which are abundant constituents of intestinal fluid and fecal matter in the human body. The long-term stability of the CCBs was also verified for 3 weeks using EIS. Overall, the CCB was found to have an excellent potential for application to point-of-care and cost-effective testing for CTxB detection in developing countries. © 2022, The Authors. The purpose of this research is to create a simulator application in calculating farmer's income from the sale of fresh fruit bunches. Farmers can easily find out the outcomes based on how many kilograms of crops are sold through this application. This research was conducted in Mesuji Regency, Lampung Province, using primary data and descriptive analysis. The sampling technique utilized a proportional random sampling method and consisted of 88 oil palm farmers. The results indicated that the application made it simpler for farmers to find out their income. Farmers only needed to input the land area, the harvest number obtained on the harvest day that had been carried out, and the price of fresh fruit bunches so that they would know the estimated monthly and annual income calculations. These calculations can be used by farmers as a predicting and planning tool to avoid losses.

Recently there has been an interest in predicting complex disease risk using models that combine the effects of many genetic factors together. These are known as polygenic models and are useful in evaluating risk of disease in patients. These models, however, often do not include important non-genetic factors that are important to the prediction of the disease. In this paper, we explore the prediction of colorectal cancer in Indonesia from non-genetic factors using common machine learning algorithms: XGBoost and Elastic Net. The result of this study identified 8 features with strong importance from both XGBoost and Elastic Net. We recommend including these features as covariates in future genetic association studies of colorectal cancer in Indonesia. Ultimately these models may be implemented as tools to screen patients for colorectal cancer risk.

Wind power has been experiencing a quick improvement. Without a doubt, wind is a variable asset that is hard to forecast. For instance, traditionally time series, extra holds are distributed to deal with this uncertainty. This paper presents a comparison of the performance of various Support Vector Regression (SVR) applied to short-term wind power forecasting. The analogy with BORUTA and multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) as judge best input and employ genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization to find best parameter in Support Vector Regression with robust lost function. We measure the accuracy of this models by Symmetric means absolute percentage error (sMAPE) and we get the best model BORUTA-SVR-PSO with sMAPE 2.07155%. Moreover, we measure the energy conversion using Feedback Linearization Control (FLC). © International Association of Engineers.

Evaluating causal effects in the presence of interference is challenging in network-based studies of hard-to-reach populations. Like many such populations, people who inject drugs (PWID) are embedded in social networks and often exert influence on others in their network. In our setting, the study design is observational with a non-randomized network-based HIV prevention intervention. Information is available on each participant and their connections that confer possible HIV risk through injection and sexual behaviors. We considered two inverse probability weighted (IPW) estimators to quantify the population-level spillover effects of non-randomized interventions on subsequent health outcomes. We demonstrated that these two IPW estimators are consistent, asymptotically normal, and derived a closed-form estimator for the asymptotic variance, while allowing for overlapping interference sets (groups of individuals in which the interference is assumed possible). A simulation study was conducted to evaluate the finite-sample performance of the estimators. We analyzed data from the Transmission Reduction Intervention Project, which ascertained a network of PWID and their contacts in Athens, Greece, from 2013 to 2015. We evaluated the effects of community alerts on subsequent HIV risk behavior in this observed network, where the connections or links between participants were defined by using substances or having unprotected sex together. In the study, community alerts were distributed to inform people of recent HIV infections among individuals in close proximity in the observed network. The estimates of the risk differences for spillover using either IPW estimator demonstrated a protective effect. The results suggest that HIV risk behavior could be mitigated by exposure to a community alert when an increased risk of HIV is detected in the network. © 2021, CC BY-NC-SA.

One of the most interesting topics in auditory problem is determining gender of the speaker. In recent years, machine learning has gained significant attentions as a way to build a classifier from labeled data which also can be implemented to build a gender classifier. In this study we develop gender classifier using two different datasets with different languages, English and Bahasa Indonesia. Each data from both datasets is represented by 20 acoustic features. Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) is used to build the classification model using all these features and trained only on English dataset. This model is evaluated in both dataset to get the performance matrices consist of accuracy, AUROC, precision and recall. Ultimately, using this model we also identify and compare important features from both dataset to see the different characteristics of English and Bahasa Indonesia speeches.
