Self-driving labs (SDLs) combine fully automated experiments with artificial intelligence (AI) that decides the next set of experiments. Taken to their ultimate expression, SDLs could usher a new paradigm of scientific research, where the world is probed, interpreted, and explained by machines for human benefit. While there are functioning SDLs in the fields of chemistry and materials science, we contend that synthetic biology provides a unique opportunity since the genome provides a single target for affecting the incredibly wide repertoire of biological cell behavior. However, the level of investment required for the creation of biological SDLs is only warranted if directed towards solving difficult and enabling biological questions. Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). Machine learning becomes one of the top fields in world of ICT (Information and communications technology). In the last few decades machine learning has taken a big boost in sports. Sport fans are using machine learning in sport betting and sport managers are using it for player selection, performance evaluation and even in outcome prediction. This paper gives basketball outcome prediction algorithms using k-nearest neighbours (k-nn). Few methods of preparing data calculated with different k and time period for k-nn algorithm will be presented and closely explained. Flow-based local graph clustering with better seed set inclusion

Flow-based methods for local graph clustering have received significant recent attention for their theoretical cut improvement and runtime guarantees. In this work we present two improvements for using flow-based methods in real-world semi-supervised clustering problems. Our first contribution is a generalized objective function that allows practitioners to place strict and soft penalties on excluding specific seed nodes from the output set. This feature allows us to avoid the tendency, often exhibited by previous flow-based methods, to contract a large seed set into a small set of nodes that does not contain all or even most of the seed nodes. Our second contribution is a fast algorithm for minimizing our generalized objective function, based on a variant of the push-relabel algorithm for computing preflows. We make our approach very fast in practice by implementing a global relabeling heuristic and employing a warm-start procedure to quickly solve related cut problems. In practice our algorithm is faster than previous related flow-based methods, and is also more robust in detecting ground truth target regions in a graph, thanks to its ability to better incorporate semi-supervised information about target clusters. This paper studied the required amount of radio spectral resource enough to support timely and reliable vehicular communication via vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). The study focused on both DSRC/WAVE and the European standard ITS-G5 that are based on recently approved IEEE 802.11p specification, which uses a simplified version of CSMA/CA as MAC protocol, and an STDMA MAC recently proposed by European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). The paper further carried out a feasibility analysis of radio spectrum requirement for timely and reliable vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication. In the feasibility analysis, synchronized STDMA MAC is compared with the CSMA/CA MAC protocol, which 802.11p is based on. Message Reception Failure (MRF) probability is used as a performance metric to investigate and ascertain the minimum spectrum requirement for efficient, timely, and reliable V2V communication. Simulation results show that even at the same allocation of 10MHz channel bandwidth, STDMA MAC outperforms the CSMA/CA based MACs due to the fact that STDMA based MACs provide a structured shared medium access and prevent negative impact of unhealthy contention for shared channel access. The results further show that up to 40MHz channel bandwidth over 5.9GHz band would be required to guarantee optimal reliability of safety packets exchange in vehicular networks as opposed to 10MHz allocated in US.

This study compares classification algorithm performances of data mining clustering algorithms for remotely sensed multispectral image data using WEKA data mining software. Clustering algorithm selection is very important for data mining classification method based clustering. The class attribute for remotely sensed multispectral image data is obtained from six different clustering algorithms for classification. Classification algorithm performances computed depending on the data labeling of six different clustering algorithms in terms of correctly classified instances and kappa statistics for seven different classification algorithms.A strategy is developed for selecting the best unsupervised clustering algorithm, among different clustering algorithms, giving the highest supervised classification accuracy in terms of correctly classified instances and kappa statistics for semi-supervised classification of remotely-sensed multispectral image data. The performances of seven semi-supervised classification methods assessed depending on six different unsupervised clustering algorithms for supervised classification of remotely sensed multispectral image data. This study determines data free clustering algorithms for classification.

According to the Taiwan Ministry of Education statistics, about one million graduates each year, some of them will go to countries, high schools or tertiary institutions to continue to attend, and some will be ready to enter the workplace employment. During the course of study, the students' all kinds of excellent performance certificates, score transcripts, diplomas, etc., will become an important reference for admitting new schools or new works. As schools make various awards or diplomas, only the names of the schools and the students are input. Due to the lack of effective anti-forge mechanism, events that cause the graduation certificate to be forged often get noticed. In order to solve the problem of counterfeiting certificates, the digital certificate system based on blockchain technology would be proposed. By the unmodifiable property of blockchain, the digital certificate with anti-counterfeit and verifiability could be made. The procedure of issuing the digital certificate in this system is as follows. First, generate the electronic file of a paper certificate accompanying other related data into the database, meanwhile calculate the electronic file for its hash value. Finally, store the hash value into the block in the chain system. The system will create a related QR-code and inquiry string code to affix to the paper certificate. It will provide the demand unit to verify the authenticity of the paper certificate through mobile phone scanning or website inquiries. Through the unmodifiable properties of the blockchain, the system not only enhances the credibility of various paper-based certificates, but also electronically reduces the loss risks of various types of certificates.

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) with molecule-functionalized tips has emerged as the primary experimental technique for probing the atomic structure of organic molecules on surfaces. Most experiments have been limited to nearly planar aromatic molecules, due to difficulties with interpretation of highly distorted AFM images originating from non-planar molecules. Here we develop a deep learning infrastructure that matches a set of AFM images with a unique descriptor characterizing the molecular configuration, allowing us to predict the molecular structure directly. We apply this methodology to resolve several distinct adsorption configurations of 1S-camphor on Cu(111) based on low-temperature AFM measurements. This approach will open the door to apply high-resolution AFM to a large variety of systems for which routine atomic and chemical structural resolution on the level of individual objects/molecules would be a major breakthrough. We propose a generic transformation that can convert any nonbinary (n=k{+}r,k)maximum distance separable (MDS) code into another (n,k) MDS code over the same field such that: 1) some arbitrarily chosen r nodes have the optimal repair bandwidth and the optimal rebuilding access;2) for the remaining k nodes, the normalized repair bandwidth and the normalized rebuilding access (over the file size) are preserved;and 3) the sub-packetization level is increased only by a factor of r. Two immediate applications of this generic transformation are then presented. The first application is that we can transform any nonbinary MDS code with the optimal repair bandwidth or the optimal rebuilding access for the systematic nodes only, into a new MDS code which possesses the corresponding repair optimality for all nodes. The second application is that by applying the transformation multiple times, any nonbinary (n,k) scalar MDS code can be converted into an (n,k) MDS code with the optimal repair bandwidth and the optimal rebuilding access for all nodes, or only a subset of nodes, whose sub-packetization level is also optimal. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
