Professor John Belcher developed a series of short videos with animation and text of selected experiments to properly demonstrate the phenomena of electromagnetism. Such 3D animations are visually compelling, instilling in the student both a sense of wonder about the phenomena and a mental model of why and how it works. The products of these approach includes video clips of demonstrations, 3D animations of these demonstration which display time changing field-lines as a guide to understanding their dynamical effects and Java applets which allow the student to actively construct and animate 2D field lines for varying configurations of sources. These technologies are also implemented to develop animations for Faraday's insights, using video clips.

Among many human-robot interaction technologies, the intention reading of a user plays an important role in humancentered systems. In the paper, we focus on the use of intention reading in rehabilitation robots, and implement its capability for the wheelchair-based robotic arm system, called KARES (KAIST Rehabilitation Engineering Service System) II. For effective intention reading, visual servoing by using an image sequence of user's face or control by using EMG signals of user's arm are applied to KARES II. Specially, it is shown that soft computing techniques are very effective for intention reading.

This paper presents for the first time fabrication and initial measurements of an electrophoresis stage integrated with a novel inline electrochemical detection system. This detector system can be easily incorporated into plastic substrates and has less complex fabrication procedure compared to fluorescent detection systems. Potentiostatic and Open potential modes of detection are demonstrated. Techniques used to eliminate gas evolution at the detection electrodes and to reduce noise are discussed. Noise levels of 0.7 pA on a signal of 5 nA and drift in signal of 1.18 pA/s were measured for the potentiostatic mode of detection for the field and buffer concentration mentioned. Open potential mode had noise levels of 9.1 mV on a signal of 800 mV and a drift in signal of 0.22 mV/s. The potentiostatic mode was determined to be more stable based on the S/N ratios. Separation and detection of few biologically important compounds along with few electrochemical tags are demonstrated. Detection limits of 14.5 amol were measured for the potentiostatic mode of detection.

This paper proposes a self-organizing control strategy of a signal network for urban traffic flows. The signal network is described using a system of nonlinear oscillators with the nearest neighborhood coupling. The natural frequency, split and coupling constants of the signals are adjusted dynamically according to local information of traffic flows so that the desired network offset patterns are self-organized through mutual entrainment. We provide a preliminary analysis of the coupled oscillator system. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method under dynamical environmental changes.
