Several studies suggest that sleep quality is associated with physical activities. Moreover, deep sleep time can be used to determine the sleep quality of an individual. In this work, we aim to find the association between physical activities and deep sleep time by modeling the time series data such as heart rate and a number of steps captured from a commercial wearable device. Our previous study demonstrates that deep learning-based time series modeling is well suited for our problem since the temporal patterns in the two physical parameters need to be captured to obtain more accurate results. We first preprocess our series data to have a time-step size of 10 minutes. To improve our previous effort in this modeling, we compare four different variants of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)-based models, ranging from single input to dual input models. Our result shows that the simple stacked LSTM model performs better for our data because the remaining models suffer from overfitting due to a larger number of the trained parameters. © 2023 The Authors. The characteristics of the disease that spreads quickly, the number of sufferers, and the severity of sufferers of Coronavirus Disease 2019 are components of uncertainty during the pandemic. In an uncertain situation, prediction models for the need for drugs and medical devices are of great concern to policymakers in government, drug manufacturers, distributors, and pharmaceutical installation managers to maintain drug availability. Drug need prediction models that rely on historical data components on drug use are no longer reliable. Learning from the COVID-19 case, epidemiological variables correlate with predicting drug demand. This research includes data on ten major diseases in private hospital units for 2017-2022 to complete historical data on drug use. This study implements the Random Forest algorithm. The research method uses literature studies and processing field data from pharmaceutical installations. The analysis process uses KNIME software. The level of accuracy in predicting drug demand from historical drug use data was 77.272%, increasing to 81.818% with a model for predicting drug demand based on consumption cycles and classification of drug therapy groups. Furthermore, predictions of drug demand can consider variables recorded in medical records related to the seasonal frequency of diseases. © 2023 IEEE.

The long COVID-19 pandemic has limited the activities of Ruang Publik Terpadu Ramah Anak (RPTRA) such as environment cleaning, repair of RPTRA infrastructure, learning and others, as well as the lack of public awareness about the existence and importance of RPTRA to the public and foreign tourists encouraging the RPTRA to make changes in the dissemination of information about the activities carried out in the RPTRA through the use of technology to survive and grow even during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The methodology used in this research is Group Discussion Forum with the administrators of the RPTRA Maya ASRI 13 to learn about the needs and expectations of the RPTRA administrators regarding the web portal to be built. Then, the implementation of the conceptual model, development, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the RPTRA information web portal was carried out. The contribution in this research is to implement a conceptual model on the information portal built on the platform of the Website with the PHP framework, which is then evaluated on the results of the pre-test and post-test about RPTRA the Wilcoxon-Signed Rank Test to test the effectiveness of the information web portal for general users. The results obtained from these tests indicate that the RPTRA Information Web Portal can help the public learn more about the existence of RPTRA Maya Asri 13. © 2022 The Authors. The increasing complexity of cyber attacks, including 0-day vulnerabilities and APTs, has rendered traditional defenses like firewalls and IDS/IPS insufficient. Honeypots have been proposed as a solution to detect and analyze new attack types by simulating vulnerable systems and capturing malicious activities. However, the deployment of honeypots introduces unique risks, necessitating a comprehensive threat modeling approach to mitigate potential drawbacks. This paper explores the intersection of threat modeling and honeypot deployment, identifying threats, and proposing effective mitigation strategies. We applied a threat model adapted from a simplified PASTA framework based on risk-centric and proposed mitigation plans such as network segmentation, outbound traffic filtering, resource monitoring, and regular updates. Additionally, we discussed alternative honeypot deployments outside the organization's internal network to avoid arising risks. We found that deploying high-interaction honeypots carries high risks due to a broader attack flow. The novelty of this study lies in adapting the attack-flow approach for honeypot threat modeling, providing a structured method to analyze and mitigate honeypot-specific threats. Future research directions include conducting long-term studies and detailed case studies to further optimize the interaction between honeypot deployments and threat modeling for enhanced security outcomes. © 2024 IEEE.

Does the People’s Republic of China (PRC) interfere with European elections through ethnic Chinese diaspora media? This question forms the basis of an ongoing research project exploring how PRC narratives about European elections are represented in Chinese diaspora media, and thus the objectives of PRC news media manipulation. In order to study diaspora media efÏciently and at scale, it is necessary to use techniques derived from quantitative text analysis, such as topic modelling. In this paper, we present a pipeline for studying information dynamics in Chinese media. Firstly, we present KeyNMF, a new approach to static and dynamic topic modelling using transformer-based contextual embedding models. We provide benchmark evaluations to demonstrate that our approach is competitive on a number of Chinese datasets and metrics. Secondly, we integrate KeyNMF with existing methods for describing information dynamics in complex systems. We apply this pipeline to data from five news sites, focusing on the period of time leading up to the 2024 European parliamentary elections. Our methods and results demonstrate the effectiveness of KeyNMF for studying information dynamics in Chinese media and lay groundwork for further work addressing the broader research questions. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

—Agriculture has long been recognized as pivotal to economic development, offering avenues to alleviate poverty, foster prosperity, and sustainably meet the food demands of a burgeoning global population projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050. However, persistent inefficiencies within agricultural supply chains, particularly in sectors like rice production, pose formidable challenges. Addressing these inefficiencies is imperative to avert a surge in hunger and malnutrition. Failure to do so could condemn 815 million people to hunger and leave 3 out of 10 individuals malnourished. Thus, investigating solutions to enhance the resilience of rice supply chains is paramount. This research endeavors to identify and analyze challenges inherent in tracing the rice supply chain, offering a conceptual model proposal as a potential remedy. Employing a methodology centered on scholarly discourse and extensive literature review, our study reveals various impediments facing rice commodity supply chains in Indonesia. Furthermore, this study leverages blockchain technology, specifically the Sawtooth Hyperledger platform, to streamline the tracing process for rice commodities and rationalize the supply chain by reducing intermediary actors. From the proposed model, there is great hope that it can provide implications for the rice supply chain to run more efficiently. ©2024 IEEE.

As one of the cancer types with the highest incidence rates, colorectal cancer (CRC) would benefit from treatments with fewer side effects and reduced treatment-resistant potential. One of the options is to harness the anti-CRC potential of natural products. Previous studies have shown that Calamus draco exudate, dragon's blood, has anticancer activity in liver cancer and acute myeloid leukemia, but its bioactivity has not been studied in CRC. Here we conduct a bioinformatics study based on network pharmacology to explore the anti-CRC potential and mechanism of C. draco-derived compounds. The bioinformatics pipeline is composed of compound and target collection, biological network evaluation, and enrichment analysis. We found that there are 43 bioactive compounds from C. draco targeting 91 CRC-related targets, of which most compounds target MEN1, PTGS2, and IDH1. Further analyses show that the targets of C. draco are involved in the cellular response to hypoxia. By inhibiting those targets, C. draco bioactive compounds can potentially hinder angiogenesis and increase treatment response efficacy. © 2024 The Authors.

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology supporting bidirectional power transfer allows electric vehicles (EVs) to contribute and consume energy bidirectionally. Because the specific properties and requirements of V2G, Khan et al. proposed a key agreement scheme for the V2G system to ensure the security of communication between a vehicle user and the grid server. However, after analyzing Khan et al.’s scheme, we find that it suffers from some flaws such that it cannot ensure anonymity, resist impersonation attack, man-in-the-middle attack and denial-of-service attack, and work as expected. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Knowledge of cultural moral norms in large language models

Moral norms vary across cultures. A recent line of work suggests that English large language models contain human-like moral biases, but these studies typically do not examine moral variation in a diverse cultural setting. We investigate the extent to which monolingual English language models contain knowledge about moral norms in different countries. We consider two levels of analysis: 1) whether language models capture fine-grained moral variation across countries over a variety of topics such as "homosexuality" and "divorce";2) whether language models capture cultural diversity and shared tendencies in which topics people around the globe tend to diverge or agree on in their moral judgment. We perform our analyses with two public datasets from the World Values Survey (across 55 countries) and PEW global surveys (across 40 countries) on morality. We find that pre-trained English language models predict empirical moral norms across countries worse than the English moral norms reported previously. However, fine-tuning language models on the survey data improves inference across countries at the expense of a less accurate estimate of the English moral norms. We discuss the relevance and challenges of incorporating cultural knowledge into the automated inference of moral norms. © 2023, CC BY.

This study examines the fairness of human- and AI-generated summaries of student reflections in university STEM classes, focusing on potential gender biases. Using topic modeling, we first identify topics that are more prevalent in reflections from female students and others that are more common among male students. We then analyze whether human and AI-generated summaries reflect the concerns of students of any particular gender over others. Our analysis reveals that though human-generated and extractive AI summarization techniques do not show a clear bias, abstractive AI-generated summaries exhibit a bias towards male students. Pedagogical themes are overrepresented from male reflections in these summaries, while concept-specific topics are underrepresented from female reflections. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of AI-generated bias in educational contexts, highlighting the need for future work on mitigating these biases. ©2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.
