This paper presents a projection-based clustering method for visualizing high-dimensional data points in lower-dimensional spaces while preserving the data’s structural properties. The proposed method modifies the t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) algorithm by adding a weight function that adjusts the dissimilarity between high-dimensional data points to obtain more realistic lower-dimensional representations. In our algorithm, the centroids obtained with a prototype-based clustering algorithm attract high-dimensional data points allocated to their respective clusters, while repelling those points assigned to other clusters. The simulations using real-world datasets show that the Weighted t-SNE produces better projections than similar algorithms without the need for any previous dimensionality reduction step. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Sign language comprises unique hand gestures used to communicate between the hearing and hearing-impaired communities, with variations based on regions or countries. Due to the increasing global prevalence of hearing loss, there is a growing need for efficient sign language recognition systems. This paper presents the development of a hybrid CNN-LSTM model specifically designed to recognize static alphabetical gestures in Indonesian Sign Language (BISINDO). Primary data was collected to address the issue of publicly available dataset. These self-collected images underwent augmentation and preprocessing stages prior to model training. The architecture and hyperparameter configuration of the hybrid model were fine-tuned using the Randomized Search CV method. Performance analysis was conducted on both the hybrid model, its constituent models, and state-of-the-art model. The experimental results revealed remarkable performance by the hybrid model with excellent accuracies of 99.60%, 84.87%, and 98.00% on the training, validation, and testing sets respectively, along with a macro average score of 0.98, indicating high precision, recall, and F1-score across all the classes. However, it was observed that the VGG-16 and CNN exhibited slightly superior performance compared to the hybrid model, while the LSTM demonstrated the least favorable performance among the models. © 2023 IEEE.

Intelligent vehicle tracking and detection are crucial tasks in the realm of highway ***,vehicles come in a range of sizes,which is challenging to detect,affecting the traffic monitoring system’s overall *** learning is considered to be an efficient method for object detection in vision-based *** this paper,we proposed a vision-based vehicle detection and tracking system based on a You Look Only Once version 5(YOLOv5)detector combined with a segmentation *** model consists of six *** the first step,all the extracted traffic sequence images are subjected to pre-processing to remove noise and enhance the contrast level of the *** pre-processed images are segmented by labelling each pixel to extract the uniform regions to aid the detection phase.A single-stage detector YOLOv5 is used to detect and locate vehicles in *** detection was exposed to Speeded Up Robust Feature(SURF)feature extraction to track multiple *** on this,a unique number is assigned to each vehicle to easily locate them in the succeeding image frames by extracting them using the feature-matching ***,we implemented a Kalman filter to track multiple *** the end,the vehicle path is estimated by using the centroid points of the rectangular bounding box predicted by the tracking *** experimental results and comparison reveal that our proposed vehicle detection and tracking system outperformed other state-of-the-art *** proposed implemented system provided 94.1%detection precision for Roundabout and 96.1%detection precision for Vehicle Aerial Imaging from Drone(VAID)datasets,respectively.

The projected increase in PayLater utilization reaches up to five million people by 2025. To optimize the yearly profit from their PayLater service, fintech companies must examine all possible risks before a unanimous decision is taken. Therefore, we proposed a unified decision framework derived from decision theory and the Monte Carlo simulation technique. Two schemes were coined: (1) a decision-making scheme, and (2) a risk simulation scheme. Throughout experiments, the framework was able to estimate several alternative decisions and their impacts, analyze the causes of failure and delays in the development of the PayLater service, and execute Monte Carlo simulations in up to 10,000 trials. Outputs of this study will benefit decision-makers in the fintech initiative before launching their PayLater products. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

To ensure the sustainability of their operations, higher education institutions have to establish a robust strategic plan. Higher education institutions have an obligation to continuously assess the quality of their educational offerings in every program to comply with the standards established by the government and other educational entities. The implementation of intelligent decision support systems is a feasible approach among other techniques for addressing the aforementioned challenges. An intelligent decision support system has the potential to enable the business to uphold its adherence to regulations, enhance operational effectiveness, and optimize overall performance. This study aimed to determine the current state of intelligent decision support systems through the implementation of a comprehensive literature review. The second goal is to evaluate the best practices, methods, and implementation of intelligent decision support systems within higher education institutions. The findings indicate that intelligent decision support systems have the capacity to serve as a viable option for higher education, particularly in terms of enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of decision-making processes. Intelligent decision support systems exhibit a strong correlation with the fields of data mining and computational intelligence techniques. Nevertheless, the amount of research conducted on this subject is limited. © 2023 IEEE.

The box office (BO) income had significantly declined up to 80% in 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic emerged. To minimize further financial risks, multiplex (multiple cinema complexes) owners need to analyze their potential income for each movie, each week. Therefore, we developed a proper data mining strategy that allows multiplex owners to analyze and discover insights on how successfully produced movies could be. The methodology comprises (1) data loading and exploration, (2) data cleaning, (3) data selection, integration, and transformation using Pentaho, (4) data mining in which the results were stored in the MySQL database, and (5) pattern evaluation and presentation using Qlik Sense as the Business Intelligence (BI) dashboard. Based on our data mining methodology, we revealed that drama, comedy, action, and thriller are favorite genres. We also found that DreamWorks Animation and Pixar Animation Studios are both the most popular production houses, even Apatow Productions and Escape Artists still have the biggest revenue on average. © 2022 The Authors. Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) is useful for converting speech into text. ASR is needed to display automatic subtitles on movies or when conducting video conferencing. The use of deep learning in ASR applications is currently still dominated by Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN). Several previous studies used the Transformer deep learning model in building the ASR model. The accuracy results obtained are better than the LSTM or RNN models. However, ASR research using the Transformer model is still very limited. This paper will discuss the use of the Transformer model for ASR in Indonesian. The dataset used is the Indonesian language private speech dataset. The experimental results show that the Word Error Rate (WER) and Character Error Rate (CER) produced by the proposed model using the Indonesian language primary dataset are almost the same as using the English language public dataset where the resulting WER and CER are 27.34 and 7.96 for Indonesian and 25.28 and 6.02 for English. © 2023 IEEE.

This document describes the submission of the very first version of the Occiglot open-source large language model to the General MT Shared Task of the 9th Conference of Machine Translation (WMT24). Occiglot is an open-source, community-based LLM based on Mistral-7B, which went through language-specific continual pre-training and subsequent instruction tuning, including instructions relevant to machine translation. We examine the automatic metric scores for translating the WMT24 test set and provide a detailed linguistically-motivated analysis. Despite Occiglot performing worse than many of the other system submissions, we observe that it performs better than Mistral7B, which has been based upon, which indicates the positive effect of the language specific continual-pretraining and instruction tuning. We see the submission of this very early version of the model as a motivation to unite community forces and pursue future LLM research on the translation task. ©2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Machine translation focuses mainly on high-resource languages (HRLs), while low-resource languages (LRLs) like Taiwanese Hokkien are relatively under-explored. The study aims to address this gap by developing a dual translation model between Taiwanese Hokkien and both Traditional Mandarin Chinese and English. We employ a pre-trained LLaMA 2-7B model specialized in Traditional Mandarin Chinese to leverage the orthographic similarities between Taiwanese Hokkien Han and Traditional Mandarin Chinese. Our comprehensive experiments involve translation tasks across various writing systems of Taiwanese Hokkien as well as between Taiwanese Hokkien and other HRLs. We find that the use of a limited monolingual corpus still further improves the model's Taiwanese Hokkien capabilities. We then utilize our translation model to standardize all Taiwanese Hokkien writing systems into Hokkien Han, resulting in further performance improvements. Additionally, we introduce an evaluation method incorporating back-translation and GPT-4 to ensure reliable translation quality assessment even for LRLs. The study contributes to narrowing the resource gap for Taiwanese Hokkien and empirically investigates the advantages and limitations of pre-training and fine-tuning based on LLaMA 2. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

Classification of Indonesian crops is a critical task in developing farming and getting more understanding of agriculture. However, there is no clear task in classifying types of crops in Indonesia. Transfer learning has been used successfully in a variety of image classification applications. Thus, in this paper, we collected images of Indonesian crops from the internet randomly and proposed a classification by using transfer learning of deep learning with four pre-trained models: EffficientNetB0, ResNet18, VGG19, and AlexNet. In the experiment, augmentation techniques such as random horizontal flip, random vertical flip, and random affine were utilized to prevent the network from overfitting. The result found that EfficientNet-B0 outperformed other models with an accuracy of 82.55. Then, the model struggled to distinguish between crops in the same family. According to the results, although transfer learning can work well to classify images of Indonesian agricultural crops, some improvements are still required to address existing issues. © 2023 The Authors.
