The people in the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta, have been living for years with air pollution. Air quality has been a concern for a long time due to the health risks it has on people, especially those at risk. Using classification algorithms, we would like to implement data mining for the air quality index and make predictions from our capital city, DKI Jakarta. This research aims to compare Decision Tree and Support Vector Machine in predicting Air Quality Index in DKI Jakarta in 2020. The dataset was collected from the Jakarta Open Data Web, and the results of this research highlight the effectiveness of data mining techniques in predicting air quality index levels in Jakarta and emphasize the importance of selecting the appropriate classification algorithm for data mining applications. This research shows that SVM, compared to the Decision tree, has a better result with an accuracy score of 87.86%. On the other hand, Decision Tree has a score of 90.56%. © 2023 IEEE.

The city of Jakarta is getting more and more congested and crowded by the number and types of vehicles. Lack of public awareness to use public transportation causes this congestion to worsen, especially during rush hours in the morning before going to work or school and in the afternoon when returning home. This is also caused by the lack of the government of the capital city of Jakarta in providing cheap, safe, and comfortable public transportation. It is not surprising that the Indonesian government has plans to move the capital city of the Indonesian government from Jakarta on the island of Java to East Kalimantan on the island of Kalimantan. Therefore, seeing this severe traffic jam, it is essential to propose an application that can reduce congestion so that drivers who bring their vehicles can share with people around them to travel to work as a routine activity during weekdays. The model of this vehicle sharing application was designed using use case diagrams, and the database design was designed using class diagrams. In addition, security issues are also significant considering that people meet in this vehicle sharing application, and some bad people may take advantage of it. Therefore user registration and moderation are essential. It is hoped that this vehicle sharing application will reduce congestion in the capital city of Jakarta and become an example in other cities. © 2022 IEEE.

AI-Assisted Decision-making: a cognitive Modeling Approach to Infer Latent Reliance Strategies

AI assistance is readily available to humans in a variety of decision-making applications. In order to fully understand the efficacy of such joint decision-making, it is important to first understand the human’s reliance on AI. However, there is a disconnect between how joint decision-making is studied and how it is practiced in the real world. More often than not, researchers ask humans to provide independent decisions before they are shown AI assistance. This is done to make explicit the influence of AI assistance on the human’s decision. We develop a cognitive model that allows us to infer the latent reliance strategy of humans on AI assistance without asking the human to make an independent decision. We validate the model’s predictions through two behavioral experiments. The first experiment follows a concurrent paradigm where humans are shown AI assistance alongside the decision problem. The second experiment follows a sequential paradigm where humans provide an independent judgment on a decision problem before AI assistance is made available. The model’s predicted reliance strategies closely track the strategies employed by humans in the two experimental paradigms. Our model provides a principled way to infer reliance on AI-assistance and may be used to expand the scope of investigation on human-AI collaboration. © 2022, The Author(s).

Statistical tests of hypothesis play a crucial role in evaluating the performance of machine learning (ML) models and selecting the best model among a set of candidates. However, their effectiveness in selecting models over larger periods of time remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the impact of statistical tests on ML model selection in sequential experiments. Specifically, we examine whether selecting models based on statistical tests leads to higher quality models after a significant number of iterations and explore the effect of the number of tests performed and the preferred statistical test for different experimental time horizons. The study on binary classification problems reveals that the use of statistical tests should be approached with caution, particularly in challenging scenarios where generating improved models is difficult. The analysis demonstrates that statistical tests may impede progress and impose overly stringent acceptance criteria for new models, hindering the selection of high-quality models. The findings also indicate that the dominance of versions without statistical tests remained consistent, suggesting the need for further research in this area. Although this study is limited by the number of datasets and the absence of pre-test assumption verification, it emphasizes the importance of understanding the impact of statistical tests on ML model selection. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Social media have been a public place where people can have social interaction with each other. They can freely express their words on social media. This right is also known as freedom of speech. However, because not many people can effectively use their right to free speech, many feel they can say anything on the internet, mainly on social media. Hence, social media can be a platform to capture public sentiment toward a particular topic. Automatic sentiment analysis using machine learning can take part in capturing public sentiment. However, automatic sentiment analysis is not a straightforward task. There are several problems to be solved in the automatic sentiment analysis task. Firstly, words can be ambiguous, in particular in several languages. Secondly, the context can be different from one language to another language. Therefore, using another language model to train automatic sentiment analysis tasks in different languages is not practical. This research intends to integrate BERT(Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) and Bi-LSTM(Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory) models for text classification since they are the two most commonly used models for text classification. The models proposed in this research focus on a specific language (i.e. Indonesian). The results demonstrate that the model trained with Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) architecture with indobertweet-base-uncased pre-trained model combined with Bi-directional Long Short Term Memory (BiLSTM) achieved the best results with 95.17%, 70.25% and 69.09% for training accuracy, validation accuracy and testing accuracy respectively, albeit the model is over-fitted. © 2022 IEEE.

Social media communications offer valuable feedback to firms about their products. Twitter users share their opinions about e-commerce products on social networking sites. This paper reports a study in sentiment classification for Indonesian drug products for automatically classifying Twitter data as expressing positive or negative sentiments or opinions. The study investigates the effectiveness of using a Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, Na rve Bayes, and Logistic Regression, along with the term frequency-inverse document frequency used to classify 531 tweets into recommended (positive sentiment) and not recommended (negative sentiment). Among all traditional machine learning models, the highest average accuracy value is 88.6 in the RF model and the lowest average accuracy value is 80.2 when using the LR model. Judging from the average accuracy obtained, the DT and RF model used has a considerable performance © 2022 IEEE.

Wireless sensors and actor networks (WSANs) have been widely used in various fields, from basic data collection to precise real-time control and monitoring, including battlefield monitoring, rescue, and exploration. The actor nodes in a WSAN play a key role in processing and transmitting data, and because of the harsh environmental conditions encountered, network node failures are prone to occur. The failure of an actor causes a loss of connectivity with its neighbor nodes, resulting in network splits and failure to deliver messages between nodes. Therefore, determining how to quickly and autonomously recover network connectivity while minimizing the moving distance of backup nodes and the number of relocated nodes is crucial. In this paper, we propose a dynamic weight-based connectivity recovery (DWCR) method to minimize the total moving distance of actor nodes, the number of relocated nodes, the total messages sent, and the coverage loss rate. The proposed DWCR method involves selecting a backup node for each critical node by dynamically adjusting the weight. If a critical node fails, the backup node starts to move to restore the connectivity of the failed node. The simulation results indicate that the proposed DWCR method outperforms the recovery through inward motion (RIM) method and other methods in terms of minimizing the total moving distance, the number of relocated nodes, and the total messages sent. However, because the RIM algorithm requires the relocation of more nodes during the network process, the DWCR algorithm is slightly inferior to the RIM algorithm in terms of coverage loss rate. Nevertheless, the DWCR algorithm still outperforms the distributed actor recovery algorithm and the distributed autonomous connectivity restoration method based on finite state machine algorithm. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

Stress detection is a growing topic in the field of natural language processing. The study of stress detection for mental health prediction has been proven to benefit the development of recommender systems and automated mental health assessments in previous studies. Additionally, the widespread usage of social media has served as a potential data source for developing such models. Our research tried to detect whether the users of social media were under stress or not. We used a dataset from Dreaddit consisting of posts from one of the popular social media platforms, Reddit. We propose a machine learning model consisting of Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Bag of Words, and Term Frequency - inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) for stress detection. The final evaluation of the model achieved an 80.00% F-1 Score and 75.00% accuracy, and both were scored by SVM. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Bacteria are microscopic organisms that can be found in many environments. They are abundant and have many roles in our life. Studying bacteria is essential so that we can identify the bacteria that are needed for many industrial applications. However, the main problem is that majority of the bacteria are unculturable, hampering the exploration of bacteria from different environments. Metagenomics approach which employs Next Generation Sequencing technology could help study bacteria by utilizing 16S rRNA marker gene. This study aims to demonstrate data mining and bioinformatics approaches to analyze 16S rRNA sequencing data. The raw sequencing data of 16S rRNA was collected from biological database. Then, the data were trimmed, denoised, and clustered to generate Amplicon Sequence Variants (ASVs). Diversity (alpha and beta) and taxonomic analyses were then conducted to elucidate the bacterial diversity and taxonomic profile of ASVs. The results of this work showed that Shannon and PD indices in China's hot spring were higher than Singapore and the USA. Furthermore, a significant difference was observed in the PD index. The unweighted UniFrac distance also showed there was a significant difference of the bacterial communities between the three locations. In addition, the taxonomic investigation unveiled prevalent bacterial groups in the ecosystem, namely Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria, and Crenarchaeota. The research outcomes have the potential to serve as a foundational resource for subsequent bacterial metagenomic research, particularly the hot spring environment. © 2023 IEEE.

Development of “Peter's First-Aid Adventure” Virtual Reality-Based Serious Game in First-Aid Education: Usability Analysis of Virtual Reality Interaction Tools

Incidents that threaten lives can occur unexpectedly, highlighting the importance of immediate first aid. Studies show that Virtual Reality (VR)-based Serious Games (SG) are excellent alternatives for learning, especially for physical training, as they provide immersive and realistic scenarios where users can learn and practice their skills in a safe environment. Therefore, this research proposes the design of a VR-based SG for learning first aid procedures. A total of 31 participants tested the game's usability using both VR controllers and hand tracking, playing the game with both tools in random order, and then completing the XR-GUQ and Interaction Categories questionnaire. The results indicate that controllers offer higher usability than hand tracking. However, the game can still effectively utilize both interaction tools, given their satisfactory usability ratings.
