Deep-time Earth research plays a pivotal role in deciphering the rates, patterns, and mechanisms of Earth's evolutionary processes throughout geological history, providing essential scientific foundations for climate prediction, natural resource exploration, and sustainable planetary stewardship. To advance Deep-time Earth research in the era of big data and artificial intelligence, the International Union of Geological sciences initiated the “Deeptime Digital Earth International Big science Program”(DDE) in 2019. At the core of this ambitious program lies the development of geoscience knowledge graphs, serving as a transformative knowledge infrastructure that enables the integration, sharing, mining, and analysis of heterogeneous geoscience big data. The DDE knowledge graph initiative has made significant strides in three critical dimensions:(1) establishing a unified knowledge structure across geoscience disciplines that ensures consistent representation of geological entities and their interrelationships through standardized ontologies and semantic frameworks;(2) developing a robust and scalable software infrastructure capable of supporting both expert-driven and machine-assisted knowledge engineering for large-scale graph construction and management;(3) implementing a comprehensive three-tiered architecture encompassing basic, discipline-specific, and application-oriented knowledge graphs, spanning approximately 20 geoscience disciplines. Through its open knowledge framework and international collaborative network, this initiative has fostered multinational research collaborations, establishing a robust foundation for next-generation geoscience research while propelling the discipline toward FAIR(Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data practices in deep-time Earth systems research.

The JFK Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (JFK CRS-R), a behavioral scale, is often used for clinical assessments of patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC), such as patients in a vegetative state. However, there has been a high rate of clinical misdiagnosis with the JFK CRS-R because patients with severe brain injures cannot provide sufficient behavioral responses. It is particularly difficult to evaluate the communication function in DOC patients using the JFK CRS-R because a higher level of behavioral responses is needed for communication assessments than for many other assessments, such as an auditory startle assessment. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), which provide control and communication by detecting changes in brain signals, can be used to evaluate patients with DOC without the need of behavioral expressions. In this paper, we proposed an audiovisual BCI system to supplement the JFK CRS-R in assessing the communication ability of patients with DOC. In the graphic user interface of the BCI system, two word buttons (“Yes” and “No” in Chinese) were randomly displayed in the left and right sides and flashed in an alternating manner. When a word button flashed, its corresponding spoken word was broadcast from an ipsilateral headphone. The use of semantically congruent audiovisual stimuli improves the detection performance of the BCI system. Similar to the JFK CRS-R, several situation-orientation questions were presented one by one to patients with DOC. For each question, the patient was required to provide his/her answer by selectively focusing on an audiovisual stimulus (audiovisual “Yes” or “No”). As a case study, we applied our BCI system in a patient with DOC who was clinically diagnosed as being in a minimally conscious state (MCS). According to the JFK CRS-R assessment, this patient was unable to communicate consistently. However, he achieved a high accuracy of 86.5% in our BCI experiment. The spread of individuals' identity information brings about threats of information revealing. Although anonymity could keep individuals' information from attackers and other unauthorized malicious, at mostly entirely anonymity does not adapt the need of authentication and authorization. To provide the fine-grained ability of privacy preservation, we propose IdRank a reference-based method for rating the importance of identity information objectively and mechanically and provide the implementation of the concrete algorithm. We analyze the result of IdRank and discuss some computing issues of the implementation of IdRank. © 2012 Springer-Verlag London Limited.

Network interconnection, information interoperability, and crowds interaction on the Internet could inspire better computation models than Turing machine, since that human plays an important factor in Internet computing, so that the human-machine and machine-machine interactions have evolved to be the kernel of Internet computing. Internet has not been simply equivalent to a virtual huge computer, or a set of computers. On the Internet, human's behaviors are uncertain, the interactions and influence among people are also uncertain. These uncertainties cannot be described by Turing machine and traditional interaction machine. As a new computation platform, Internet computing requires new theories and methods. By combining topology in mathematics with the field theory in physics, we propose the topological potential approach, which set up a virtual field by the topological space to reflect individual activities, local effects and preferential attachments. This approach can be used to research the emergence of collective intelligence. Here, we introduce three case studies to illustrate the analysis on the collective intelligence on the Internet and discuss some potential applications of the topological potential approach. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

With the more emphasis paid on network security and privacy, the research on anonymous communication system has developed quickly. In the past, researchers mainly focused on how to improve the anonymity, but few focused on how to encourage users to contribute for whole system. This paper presents an incentive mechanism and designs an Incentive-based Low-latency anonymous communication framework (ILACF). In this framework, firstly all nodes in anonymous communication system are divided into four types according to their contribution, and then router selection mechanism is presented. The traffic performance of ILACF is analyzed. The theoretic analysis and simulation experiment indicate that the incentive mechanism is very useful and ILACF can gain better communication performance than Tor and ALHACF. © 2012 IEEE.

Almost all of the progress of artificial intelligence in the last 50 years has been based on the Turing model and Von Neumann architecture. Researchers have always tried to put the human intelligence into machines by the ways of algorithms, codes or symbols that could be understood and executed by machines, thus, we may be bounded to Turing model too tightly. In Internet and World Wide Web and developing cloud computing, network has changed the role from a single huge Turing machine or sum of some Turing machines to the collective intelligence, where the inputs or outputs of nodes in network are happening not only among computers, but also among people, such that Internet has been beyond Turing machine. Users in Internet who own similar interests may cluster naturally into scalable and boundless communities with uncertainty, where online interaction avoids the difficulty of common sense representation in traditional artificial intelligence. Furthermore, collective intelligence may emerge from the crowds interaction. Those would become the new research frontiers in intelligence science.

We propose joint channel sensing, probing, and accessing schemes for secondary users in cognitive radio networks. Our method has time and space complexity O(N·k) for a network with N channels and k secondary users, while applying classic methods requires exponential time complexity. We prove that, even when channel states are selected by adversary (thus non-stochastic), it results in a total regret uniformly upper bounded by Θ(√TN log N), w.h.p, for communication lasts for T timeslots. Our protocol can be implemented in a distributed manner due to the nonstochastic channel assumption. Our experiments show that our schemes achieve almost optimal throughput compared with an optimal static strategy, and perform significantly better than previous methods in many settings.

We propose a swarm aggregation algorithm based on local interactions in the presence of saturations on the robot actuators. This assumption allows to better model the physical limitations of actual mobile robotic platforms. In our framework, robot-to-robot interactions are limited to the visibility neighborhood, i.e., to robots that are within the range of visibility of each other. A theoretical analysis of the convergence properties is presented for the proposed swarm aggregation algorithm. Extensive simulations have been performed to corroborate the theoretical results. In addition, experiments with a team of low-cost mobile robots have been carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

DiffServ is a kind of thick pipe IP QoS technology. The characteristics of satellite channels disturb the QoS guarantees of broadband satellite communication networks to end users, so DiffServ becomes the best QoS choice in the satellite communication networks because of its simpleness and expansibility. Currently, the characteristics of satellite communication networks such as high bit error rate and limited on-board-processing ability are not taken into account. If it is used in satellite communication networks without modification, the performance will decrease. Considering the high bit error rate of satellite link, a new algorithm called S-DRIO was proposed for satellite IP networks based on DRIO. It reduces the packet dropping rate and increases the bandwidth of flows whose BER is much higher. Both theoretical analysis and simulation experiments confirm that a better guarantee for the fairness among flows can be archived with the algorithm in the high bit error rate of the satellite link channels.
