Implementation of ANN and response surface method for dual-fuel CI engine optimization and prediction using water infusion and biofuel

In this study, tests were done to see what would happen if hydrogen (H2) and lemon grass oil (LO) were used for a lone-cylinder compression ignition engine as a partial diesel replacement. After starting the trial with pure diesel, the engine was modified to run on two fuels by adding H2 through the inlet pipe and LO as direct injection (DI) gasoline. In this study, the energy fraction of H2 ranged from 5 to 10%. A 3% volume mixture of water (W) and diesel-LO mixtures was used to study how NOX emissions were affected. Using a common back- transmission method, an Artificial Neural Network model was created to forecast the correlation between engine output reactions and input variables (load, LO, and H2). The goal of response surface methodology is for improve the motor input settings for low pollution and high heat efficiency. The trials were designed using response surface methodology (RSM), and the optimization procedure was conducted using RSM. An artificial neural network (ANN) was used to predict the test engine’s emission patterns and performance. The results showed that ANN and RSM were both very good and accurate modeling strategies. When 10% H2 + LO25 was used, the BTE rose to 31%, up from 20% for clean LO and 28% for 12% H2 + LO25 + 2%W means. Compared to clean LO operation, the cylinder pressure raised in 15% H2 mode by up to 63 psi. The measured value for the HRR, under H2 premixed combustion framework was 81 k Joule/CA deg in 10% H2, that is significantly greater than the value for every LO processes. The highest NOX release for 10% H2 + LO 25% was discovered at 690 ppm peak load, while it dropped to 645 ppm in gasoline that had been emulsified in water. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Multiview data fusion technique for missing value imputation in multisensory air pollution dataset

The missing readings in various sensors of air pollution monitoring stations is a common issue. Those missing sensor readings may greatly influence the performance of monitoring and analysis of air pollution data. To address this problem, in this paper, a multi-view based missing value (MV) imputation method called MVDI (Multi-View Data Imputation) is proposed for air pollution related time series data. MVDI combines four models namely LSTM (Long-Short Term Memory), IDS (Inverse Distance Squared), SVR (Support Vector Regressor), and KNN (K-Nearest Neighbors) to estimate MVs. These four models are mainly employed to capture the variations in data from different views of the dataset. Here, different views represent different portions (subsets) of the actual dataset. The estimates of MVs from all the views are combined using a kernel function to get an overall result. The proposed model MVDI is evaluated on real-world air pollution dataset in terms of RMSE, MAE, MAPE, and R2. The experimental results show that MVDI dominates over the baseline methods namely AR (AutoRegressive), ARIMA (AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average), RFR (Random Forest Regressor), ANN (Artificial Neural Network), LI (Linear Interpolation), NN (Nearest Neighbors), MI (Mean Imputation), CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), ConvLSTM (Convolutional LSTM). © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

A Comprehensive Review of Blockchain and Machine Learning Integration for Peer-to-Peer Energy Trading in Smart Grids

The transition from traditional energy or electrical grids to smart energy or electrical grids has significantly transformed energy management. This evolution emphasizes decentralization, efficiency, and sustainability in energy systems. However, it also introduces numerous risks, including cyber-physical system vulnerabilities and challenges in energy trading. The application of blockchain and Machine Learning (ML) offers potential solutions to these issues. Blockchain enhances energy transactions by making them safer, more transparent, and tamper-proof, while ML optimizes grid performance by improving predictions, fault detection, and anomaly identification. This systematic review examines the application of blockchain and ML in peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading within smart grids and analyzes how these technologies complement each other in mitigating risks and enhancing the efficiency of smart grids. Blockchain enhances security by providing privacy for transactions and maintaining immutable records, while ML predicts market trends, identifies fraudulent activities, and ensures efficient energy use. The paper identifies critical challenges in smart grids, such as unsecured communication channels and vulnerabilities to cyber threats, and discusses how blockchain and ML address these issues. Furthermore, the study explores emerging trends, such as lightweight blockchain systems and edge computing, to overcome implementation challenges. A new architecture is proposed, integrating blockchain with ML algorithms to create resilient, secure, and efficient energy trading markets. The paper underscores the need for global standardization, improved cybersecurity measures, and further research into how blockchain and ML can revolutionize smart grids. MTUNet + + : explainable few-shot medical image classification with generative adversarial network

Medical imaging, a cornerstone of disease diagnosis and treatment planning, faces the hurdles of subjective interpretation and reliance on specialized expertise. Deep learning algorithms show improvements in automating medical image analysis, reducing radiologists' burden, and potentially enhancing patient outcomes. However, these algorithms require substantial quantities of high-quality labelled data for effective training and refinement. This paper proposes an innovative approach that harnesses few-shot learning (FSL) and generative adversarial networks (GANs) to overcome conventional methods' limitations in medical image classification. FSL, capable of learning from limited labelled examples, holds promise for scenarios where labelled data is scarce. However, the lack of interpretability in existing FSL models impedes their clinical adoption. To tackle this, this paper proposes a explainable FSL network, "MTUNet + +," which integrates an attention mechanism to emphasize relevant regions in medical images. Furthermore, integrating a generative adversarial network, enhances the performance of MTUNet + + by generating synthetic medical images. Systematically eliminating misleading synthetic images improves the reliability and accuracy of medical image classification. Empirical evaluation on benchmark datasets underscores the effectiveness of the approach, achieving 85.19% and 69.28% accuracy for the HAM10000 and Kvasir datasets, respectively. A Hybrid AI Approach for Fault Detection in Induction Motors under Dynamic Speed and Load Operations

Faults in an Induction Motor (IM) can lead to unexpected downtime, resulting in considerable economic and productivity losses. From existing literature, conventional fault diagnosis approaches in an IM struggle to reliably identify fault patterns at different speeds, particularly under variable speed and changing load conditions. To resolve this issue, this paper presents a unique hybrid Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) along with the Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) topology for diagnosing faulty patterns in an IM under loaded and unloaded variable speed settings. The proposed method can identify faults such as rotor imbalances, misalignment, stator winding issues, voltage imbalances, broken rotor bars, and broken bearings. Experiments performed using the University of Ottawa Electric Motor Dataset - Vibration and Acoustic Faults under Constant and Variable Speed Conditions (UOEMD-VAFCVS) dataset reveals that all three accelerometers are 99.93% accurate at constant speed and 99.96% at variable speed under both loaded and unloaded conditions. In terms of fault diagnostic accuracy in an IM operating at different speeds and load conditions, this methodology outperforms cutting-edge methodologies in the literature. Moreover, using the publicly available CWRU dataset, this study validates the robustness of the proposed methodology in terms of operational issues in an IM. Finally, the proposed method achieves incredible results at varying speeds, stressing the need to improve industrial equipment reliability and maintenance methods. © 2013 IEEE.

3D brain image based tumor classification using ensemble of reinforcement transfer-based belief neural networks

The procedure of segmenting a brain tumour is an essential step in the field of medical image processing. In order to improve the efficacy of disease treatment choices and the likelihood of patient survival, the timely detection of a brain tumour is not only highly essential but a vital factor. For the purpose of cancer diagnosis, manually segmenting brain tumours from the large number of MRI images that are generated in clinical practice is a hard and time-consuming process. Automatic brain tumour image segmentation is a technique that absolutely has to exist. Using deep learning and machine learning architectures for segmentation and feature extraction, this research proposes a novel approach to the detection of brain tumours. In this case, the input consists of a collection of 3-D brain slice pictures that have been smoothed and with noise eliminated. After that, the picture that has been processed is segmented by using a convolutional radial function architecture that centres on contours. The segmented image features retrieval has been accomplished by the use of an ensemble of reinforcement transfer-based belief neural networks. The results of the experimental study have been completed with regard to precision, recall, accuracy, F-1 score, area under the curve, dice coefficient, and root mean square error. The strategy that was recommended was successful in achieving 97.57% accuracy, 97.15% precision, 89.37% recall, 83.56% F-1 score, 69.59% area under the curve, 63.83% dice coefficient, and 55.56% root mean square error. The sagittal, coronal, and axial planes of the pictures were shown in order to acquire the specific position of the tumour as well as its characteristics, which included its height, breadth, and depth. Multi-feature Fusion Deep Network for Skin Disease Diagnosis

The skin acts as an important barrier between the body and the external environment, playing a vital role as an organ. The application of deep learning in the medical field to solve various health problems has generated increasing interest. The objective of this research is to create a new model using a deep network with multi-feature fusion that enables accurate identification of various skin diseases. This paper proposes a fully fused network (FFN), which includes an improved single block (ISB) and an improved fusion block (IFB) to achieve optimal performance. To implement this, a convolutional neural network-based model for multi-class recognition of skin images has been developed, in which ISB is used to segment diseases in skin images. The IFB module is designed to enhance the effectiveness of the fused network. The model is built and evaluated using our proprietary dataset (Skin_disease_v1) along with publicly available datasets, namely ISIC2016, ISIC2017, and HAM10000. The highest accuracy achieved in experiments was 86% for ISB, 90% for IFB, and 92% for FFN using HAM10000 (for ResNet101V2), HAM10000 (for Resnet50 + ResNet101V2), and HAM10000 (for Resnet50 + ResNet101V2). This shows an accuracy improvement of 9.2%, 13.2%, and 15.2% compared to the state-of-the-art ISB, IFB, and FFN approaches, respectively.
