Medical imaging is a subfield in image processing that deals with medical images. It is very crucial in visualizing the body parts in non-invasive way by using appropriate image processing techniques. Generally, image processing is used to enhance visual appearance of images for further interpretation. However, the pixel values of an image may not be precise as uncertainty arises within the gray values of an image due to several factors. In this paper, the input and output images of Flat Electroencephalography (fEEG) of an epileptic patient at varied time are presented. Furthermore, ordinary fuzzy and intuitionistic fuzzy approaches are implemented to the input images and the results are compared between these two approaches.

We present a novel software approach for the interactive and integrated visual exploration of sensor data acquired by profiling platforms. The solution combines decent web-technologies and linked interactive 2D and 3D data presentations utilizing a direct-touch interaction metaphor. The user can point with his finger on specific data points and slide through the depth profiles and the time scale. For the visualization and interaction design, widely recognized visualization and interaction principles and techniques like "focus & context" and "overview & detail" were incorporated. Our goal is to facilitate the dynamic exploration of spatio-temporal sensor data, to reduce visual clutter in the user interface and to allow the user to focus in on specific time and depth situations. We present first results of a user study with domain experts (marine researchers). The goal of the study was to prove the design considerations and to investigate the practicability of web-based interactive visualization and direct-touch interaction for analytical tasks. Additionally we tested the suitability of our approach for data exploration tasks on different multi-touch display setups. The study results show, that through the intuitive direct-touch interaction and the linked 2D and 3D visualizations of the data sets, the proposed solution offers a better support to explore profiling data sets, compared to currently available nonintegrated tool sets. The presented approach also reduces the efforts of analytical tasks. While the proposed 3D view of ADCP data was considered very useful for a fast assessment of current conditions in the water column, most of the participants also had problems to fully understand the offered navigation and interaction within the 3D space. Creating an intuitive view navigation in 3D space with direct-touch interaction proved to be rather challenging and needs a careful design.

This paper addresses approximate partial symmetry detection in 3D point clouds, a classical and foundational tool for analyzing geometry. We present a novel, fully unsupervised method that detects partial symmetry under significant geometric variability, and without constraints on the number and arrangement of instances. The core idea is a matching scheme that finds consistent co-occurrence patterns in a frame-invariant way. We obtain a canonical partition of the input shape into building blocks and can handle ambiguous data by aggregating co-occurrence information across both all building block instances and the area they cover. We evaluate our method on several benchmark data sets and demonstrate its significant improvements in handling geometric variability, including scanning noise, irregular patterns, appearance variation and shape deformation.

The evolution and affordability of depth cameras like Microsoft Kinect make it a great source for object detection and surveillance monitoring. Information available from depth cameras includes depth in addition to color. Using depth cameras, the provided depth information can be incorporated for object detection in still and video images, but needs special care to pair it with color information. In this work, we propose a simple, yet novel real time unsupervised object detection method in spatio-temporal videos. The RGB color frame is mapped into Hunter Lab color space to reduce emphasis on image illuminations, while the depth frame is back-projected into the 3D real world coordinate in order to distinguish between objects in space. Once combined, the mapped color information and the back-projected depth information are fed into automatic, unsupervised clustering framework in order to detect scene objects. The framework runs in parallel to provide real time spatio-temporal object detection.

We present PictureSensation, a mobile application for the hapto-acoustic exploration of images. It is designed to allow for the visually impaired to gain direct perceptual access to images via an acoustic signal. PictureSensation introduces a swipe-gesture based, speech-guided, barrier free user interface to guarantee autonomous usage by a blind user. It implements a recently proposed exploration and audification principle, which harnesses exploration methods that the visually impaired are used to from everyday life. In brief, a user explores an image actively on a touch screen and receives auditory feedback about its content at his current finger position. PictureSensation provides an extensive tutorial and training mode, to allow for a blind user to become familiar with the use of the application itself as well as the principles of image content to sound transformations, without any assistance from a normal-sighted person. We show our application's potential to help visually impaired individuals explore, interpret and understand entire scenes, even on small smartphone screens. Providing more than just verbal scene descriptions, PictureSensation presents a valuable mobile tool to grant the blind access to the visual world through exploration, anywhere.

Integration of materials such as GaN, InP, SiGe, and Si is a natural extension of the 3D-IC perspective and provides a unique solution for high performance circuits. In this approach, application of a component is no longer dependent on semiconductor material selection. In this paper, preliminary results are presented which examine the thermal performance of the technology. A thermal analysis prototype solution in Mentor graphics™ Calibre® provides surface heat maps based on IC layout, material property, and geometric configuration files. Chiplets are connected by heterogeneous interconnect (HIC). Differences in thermal performance of GaN and InP chiplets are explored by varying the number of HICs. Two methods for building up the model of a test chip are compared. One method uses custom scripts to place discrete blocks in the model to represent HICs, while the other uses thermal material properties extracted from the layout. Measurements presented confirm simulated results. © 2015 IEEE.

Information visualization is strongly related to human perception, human behavior, and in particular human interaction. It is a discipline that focuses on human to enable him gathering insights, knowledge, and solving various and heterogeneous tasks. The human-centered characteristic of information visualization requires valid and proper user studies that improve the system or validate their benefits. New methods, techniques, or approaches of information visualization are commonly evaluated. However, the evaluation is either time and cost consuming or they are made minimum resources that leads to results, which may not be valid. In particular the number of participants is commonly restricted and does not enable a valid assumption about the results. Thus performance measures plays a key role in information visualization, existing web-survey tools are not convenient. We introduce in this paper a new method that enables web-based evaluations of information visualization systems. Our main contribution is the enhancement of web-based survey tools with performance measures. Our approach enables the measurement of task-completion time, correctness of solved tasks, and includes a number of pre- and post-questionnaires. © 2015 The Authors

IEEE 1149.1-based top-level access to IEEE 1500-compliant IP cores is commonly used in industrial designs as the underlying infrastructure to provide test access, control, instrumentation, and ease of use. Validating the test infrastructure and its usage in the early design stages is critical to the success of the project. The new Internal Joint Test Action Group (IJTAG or IEEE 1687-2014) standard is a valuable component of this test infrastructure and is designed to promote efficient embedded instrument access. This paper describes one of first comprehensive applications of an IJTAG-based method to a state-of-the-art server microprocessor design from specification to production. We leveraged IJTAG to automate design modeling, enable faster and more advanced verification, and optimize manufacturing test access. In this work, we demonstrate a very high degree of optimization and automation, which is cost-efficiently enabled by IJTAG, and goes beyond the capabilities of typical in-house IJTAG-like system, currently in use in industry.

Commercially available mobile devices with various kinds of hardware and software platforms have resulted in a huge amount of mobile services. This has a new challenge in designing multiple services that are compatible with heterogeneous devices and operating systems (OSes). This paper presents a method of multi-services mobile cloud computing (MSMCC) for mobile device, which regards OS as a service to improve user experience. A multi-services pre-boot firmware (MSPF) is designed to stream multi-OS images and multi-application images to the mobile devices over wireless network. After that, we use the MSMCC method to run on the S3C6410 board equipped with MSPF, results illustrated that MSPF is able to support remote boot and streaming execution of multi-services with stable performance © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

During the last decade, with the massive growth of smart mobile devices (SMDs), mobile user experience has a dramatic perspective. Addressed to the problem of optimizing resource management in mobile computing, this paper proposes a novel resource management method using the Third Party Broker (TPB) which is designed to consist of four components as Manage Center (MC), Request Manager (RM), Connection Manager (CM), and Processor Manager (PM) to manage respectively the computing resources, user requests,network and services in mobile transparent computing (MTC). By the cooperation between different component, the TPB is able to support the mobile computation-intensive and resource-consuming tasks, and handle the users' requests fluctuation. Such a resource management method serves to effectively utilize local LAN resources to achieve computing tasks of single mobile client, and thus it extends the computing paradigm of MTC with the characteristic of local mobile device computing and remote server storage into that of local LAN computing as well as remote server storage. The proposed method is implemented and deployed in the testbed of MTC, and several experiments are carried out to demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the architecture. Experiment results show that the method is effective and stable in improving resource utilization of mobile computing. © 2015, Fuji Technology Press Ltd. All rights reserved.
