IEEE 1149.1-based top-level access to IEEE 1500-compliant IP cores is commonly used in industrial designs as the underlying infrastructure to provide test access, control, instrumentation, and ease of use. Validating the test infrastructure and its usage in the early design stages is critical to the success of the project. The new Internal Joint Test Action Group (IJTAG or IEEE 1687-2014) standard is a valuable component of this test infrastructure and is designed to promote efficient embedded instrument access. This paper describes one of first comprehensive applications of an IJTAG-based method to a state-of-the-art server microprocessor design from specification to production. We leveraged IJTAG to automate design modeling, enable faster and more advanced verification, and optimize manufacturing test access. In this work, we demonstrate a very high degree of optimization and automation, which is cost-efficiently enabled by IJTAG, and goes beyond the capabilities of typical in-house IJTAG-like system, currently in use in industry.

Commercially available mobile devices with various kinds of hardware and software platforms have resulted in a huge amount of mobile services. This has a new challenge in designing multiple services that are compatible with heterogeneous devices and operating systems (OSes). This paper presents a method of multi-services mobile cloud computing (MSMCC) for mobile device, which regards OS as a service to improve user experience. A multi-services pre-boot firmware (MSPF) is designed to stream multi-OS images and multi-application images to the mobile devices over wireless network. After that, we use the MSMCC method to run on the S3C6410 board equipped with MSPF, results illustrated that MSPF is able to support remote boot and streaming execution of multi-services with stable performance © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

During the last decade, with the massive growth of smart mobile devices (SMDs), mobile user experience has a dramatic perspective. Addressed to the problem of optimizing resource management in mobile computing, this paper proposes a novel resource management method using the Third Party Broker (TPB) which is designed to consist of four components as Manage Center (MC), Request Manager (RM), Connection Manager (CM), and Processor Manager (PM) to manage respectively the computing resources, user requests,network and services in mobile transparent computing (MTC). By the cooperation between different component, the TPB is able to support the mobile computation-intensive and resource-consuming tasks, and handle the users' requests fluctuation. Such a resource management method serves to effectively utilize local LAN resources to achieve computing tasks of single mobile client, and thus it extends the computing paradigm of MTC with the characteristic of local mobile device computing and remote server storage into that of local LAN computing as well as remote server storage. The proposed method is implemented and deployed in the testbed of MTC, and several experiments are carried out to demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the architecture. Experiment results show that the method is effective and stable in improving resource utilization of mobile computing. © 2015, Fuji Technology Press Ltd. All rights reserved.

The exponential growth of text data on the World Wide Web as well as on databases off line created a critical need for efficient text summarizers that significantly reduce its size while maintaining its integrity. In this paper, we present a new multigraph-based text summarizer method. This method is unique in that it produces a multi-edge-irregular-graph that represents words occurrence in the sentences of the target text. This graph is then converted into a symmetric matrix from which we can produce the ranking of sentences and hence obtain the summarized text using a threshold. To test our method performance, we compared our results with those from the most popular publicly available text summarization software using a corpus of 1000 samples from 6 different applications: health, literature, politics, religion, science and sports. The simulation results show that the proposed method produced better or comparable summaries in all cases. The proposed method is fast and can be implement for real time summarization.

On the translation-invariance of image distance metric

An appropriate choice of the distance metric is a fundamental problem in pattern recognition, machine learning and cluster analysis. Some methods that based on the distance of samples, e.g, the k-means clustering algorithm and the k-nearest neighbor classifier, are crucially relied on the performance of the distance metric. In this paper, the property of translation invariance for the distance metric of images is especially emphasized. The consideration is twofold. Firstly, some of the commonly used distance metrics, such as the Euclidean and Minkowski distance, are independent of the training set and/or the domain-specific knowledge. Secondly, the translation invariance is a necessary property for any intuitively reasonable image metric. The image Euclidean distance (IMED) and generalized Euclidean distance (GED) are image metrics that take the spatial relationship between pixels into consideration. Sun et al.(IEEE Conference on computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, pp 1398–1405, 2009) showed that IMED is equivalent to a translation-invariant transform and proposed a metric learning algorithm based on the equivalency. In this paper, we provide a complete treatment on this topic and extend the equivalency to the discrete frequency domain. Based on the connection, we show that GED and IMED can be implemented as low-pass filters, which reduce the space and time complexities significantly. The transform domain metric learning proposed in (Sun et al. 2009) is also resembled as a translation-invariant counterpart of LDA. Experimental results demonstrate improvements in algorithm efficiency and performance boosts on the small sample size problems.

Multiple Watermark Scheme Based on DWT-DCT Quantization for Medical Images

In this paper, a multiple watermark scheme for medical images is proposed. The image feature information and private tag information are embedded into the original image as watermarks. Firstly, the medical image is divided into the region of interest (ROI) and region of non-interest (RONI). Secondly, a 2-level discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is applied in the ROI. The watermark is embedded using the low-frequency sub-band (LL2) of the DWT through quantizing the low-frequency coefficients. Finally, the RONI is divided into non-overlapping 8 × 8 blocks. A discrete cosine transform (DCT) is used for each block, and the DCT coefficients of each block are sorted using zigzag transform. Seven intermediate frequency coefficients are selected to embed watermark by quantizing them. Then the feature information is embedded in the ROI and is semi-fragile, whereas the tag information is embedded in the RONI. The experimental results showed that our scheme has the advantages of lower error rate, strong robustness and high capacity for the watermarking algorithm applied in the RONI. Performance evaluation is made by calculating PSNR and SSIM to verify the accuracy of the algorithm. © 2015 ISSN 2073-4212

The Morgantina silver Treasure belonging to the collections of the Archaeological Museum of Aidone (Sicily) were involved in a 3D survey and diagnostics campaign for monitoring over time of the finds, in anticipation of their temporary transfer to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, for a period of four years. According to a multidisciplinary approach, it has been developed a scientific and methodological protocol based on non-invasive techniques to achieve a complete and integrated knowledge of the precious items, of their conservation state and increasing their valorisation. All acquired data, i.e. 3D models, UV fluorescence and X-Ray images and chemical information, will be made available, in a integrated way, within a web oriented platform, that will represent a in progress tool to deepen the existing archaeological knowledge and technologies of production and to obtain referenced information of the state of preservation, before and after moving of the finds from their exposure site. © 2015 Metrology for Archaeology, MetroArchaeo

Electromigration (EM) in VLSI interconnects has become one of the major reliability issues for current and future VLSI technologies. However, existing EM modeling and analysis techniques are mainly developed for a single wire. For practical VLSI chips, the interconnects such as clock and power grid networks typically consist of multi-branch metal segments representing a continuously connected, highly conductive metal (Cu) lines within one layer of metallization, terminating at diffusion barriers. The EM effects in those branches are not independent and they have to be considered simultaneously. In this paper, we demonstrate, for the first time, a first principle based analytic solution of this problem. We investigate the analytic expressions describing the hydrostatic stress evolution in several typical interconnect trees: the straight-line 3-terminal wires, the T-shaped 4-terminal wires and the cross-shaped 5-terminal wires. The new approach solves the stress evolution in a multi-branch tree by de-coupling the individual segments through the proper boundary conditions accounting the interactions between different branches. By using Laplace transformation technique, analytical solutions are obtained for each type of the interconnect trees. The analytical solutions in terms of a set of auxiliary basis functions using the complementary error function agree well with the numerical analysis results. Our analysis further demonstrates that using the first two dominant basis functions can lead to 0.5% error, which is sufficient for practical EM analysis.

Realistic computer graphics will change the way people think and communicate. Achieving deeper success as a ubiquitous medium will require a more resonant understanding of visual modelling that must embrace mathematical, philosophical, cultural, perceptual and social aspects. With an interleaved understanding, people will be able to create visual ontologies that better align to their expressive needs. In turn, this will naturally lead to ubiquitous supporting technologies. First we need good visual models. A model induces an ontology of things that inevitably omits aspects of the phenomenon, whether desired or not. Thus modelling a model's incompleteness is crucial, for it allows us to account for artifacts, errors, and ontological surprises such as the "uncanny valley". Over the years, my choice of tools to model models has been mathematics. In this paper, I will speak to how little progress we have made and how much broader our investigation must be. In this chapter we give a systematic overview over Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) in underwater settings and suggest several future applications. Based on a novel classification scheme we illustrate the broad range of available and future implementation options. Whilst we find a variety of previous work on creating and using virtual underwater worlds, quite few examples of real underwater settings exist up to now. Thus, we concentrate on this new category, sketch attractive application areas that go beyond entertainment, and derive requirements for Underwater Mixed Environments (UWME). Combined with a short summary on relevant aspects of underwater optics, we formulate potential topics of future research to overcome current limitations of UWME. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.
