We present a novel armature structure for 3D articulated shapes, called SBall short for skeletal balls, which includes two parts: a one-dimensional skeleton and incident balls. Our algorithm mainly focuses on constructing the armature structure. This structure is based on an approximation skeleton which is homotopy equivalent to the shape. Each ball in the structure connects a skeletal joint and an interior region of the shape. The boundary vertices on the shape surface are attached onto the SBall using the power diagram of the ball set. A bilateral O^tering algorithm and a variational segmentation algorithm are proposed to enhance the quality of SBall. Finally, applications of this structure are discussed.

This paper compares the E-Participation roadmaps of industrial and developing countries, based on Germany and Kenya as representatives. Therefore, the ICT roadmap of each country is de-scribed in a clear shape and with representative E-Participation projects of each country. Based on these projects, the comparison is performed on a categorical level in terms of (1) participation forms, (2) used ICT, and (3) socio-political requirements. After-wards, the results are summarized to determine an overall view on the E-Participation situation in both countries. As a result of the comparison similarities and significant differences will be identified. The results are useful for software developing organizations that want to create ICT governance tools for industrial as well as developing countries and therefore need to consider the characteristics and requirements of both country types. Integration of materials such as GaN, InP, SiGe, and Si is a natural extension of the 3D-IC perspective and provides a unique solution for high performance circuits. In this approach, application of a component is no longer dependent on semiconductor material selection. In this paper, preliminary results are presented which examine the thermal performance of the technology. A thermal analysis prototype solution in Mentor graphics ™ Calibre ® provides surface heat maps based on IC layout, material property, and geometric configuration files. Chiplets are connected by heterogeneous interconnect (HIC). Differences in thermal performance of GaN and InP chiplets are explored by varying the number of HICs. Two methods for building up the model of a test chip are compared. One method uses custom scripts to place discrete blocks in the model to represent HICs, while the other uses thermal material properties extracted from the layout. Measurements presented confirm simulated results.

Third places are social places like coffee shop and bars, where people come together to catch up with friends and meet new people. Our research explores how Ubiquitous Computing experiences in public space, particularly interactive public displays, can be leveraged to encourage interaction between strangers. We present a multi-display application based on the metaphor of a table-top community garden. This application is built using our Really Easy Displays (RED) framework, a set of web based technologies that allow the rapid development of applications that span multiple displays, sensors and actuators. The prototype makes use of a situated large screen, a projected surface and an Arduino microcontroller to support collaborative interaction, by al- lowing groups of people to collectively nurture a table-top garden by interacting with furniture, touch-enabled projections and mobile phones. The public release of realistic industrial placement bench-marks by IBM and Intel Corporations from 1998-2013 has been crucial to the progress in physical-design algorithms during those years. Direct comparisons of academic tools on these test cases, including widely publicized contests, have spurred researchers to discover faster, more scalable algorithms with significantly improved quality of results. Nevertheless, close examination of these benchmarks reveals that the removal of important physical data from them prior to release now presents a serious obstacle to any ac-curate appraisal of the detailed routability of their placements. Recent studies suggest that academic placement algorithms may lack sufficient awareness of the pin geometry and routing rules missing from these benchmarks to adequately address the challenge of computing routable placements at 28nm-process technologies and below. In this article, the reconstitution of the existing bench-marks via the injection of realistic yet fictitious pin data and routing rules is described. The enhanced benchmarks enable more meaningful comparisons of new placement algorithms by industrial detailed routing, beginning with the 2014 ISPD placement contest.
