Iterative process to improve simple adaptive subdivision surfaces method with butterfly scheme

Subdivision surfaces were applied to the entire meshes in order to produce smooth surfaces refinement from coarse mesh. Several schemes had been introduced in this area to provide a set of rules to converge smooth surfaces. However, to compute and render all the vertices are really inconvenient in terms of memory consumption and runtime during the subdivision process. It will lead to a heavy computational load especially at a higher level of subdivision. Adaptive subdivision is a method that subdivides only at certain areas of the meshes while the rest were maintained less polygons. Although adaptive subdivision occurs at the selected areas, the quality of produced surfaces which is their smoothness can be preserved similar as well as regular subdivision. Nevertheless, adaptive subdivision process burdened from two causes;calculations need to be done to define areas that are required to be subdivided and to remove cracks created from the subdivision depth difference between the selected and unselected areas. Unfortunately, the result of adaptive subdivision when it reaches to the higher level of subdivision, it still brings the problem with memory consumption. This research brings to iterative process of adaptive subdivision to improve the previous adaptive method that will reduce memory consumption applied on triangular mesh. The result of this iterative process was acceptable better in memory and appearance in order to produce fewer polygons while it preserves smooth surfaces.

The objective of semantic segmentation in microscopic images is to extract the cellular, nuclear or tissue components. This problem is challenging due to the large variations of these components features (size, shape, orientation or texture). In this paper we improve the technique presented in [17] used to identify the epithelial nuclei (crypt) against interstitial nuclei in microscopic images taken from colon tissues. In the proposed enhanced approach, the crypt inner boundary is detected using the closing morphological pyramid instead of morphological hierarchy. The outer crypt border is determined by the epithelial nuclei, overlapped by the maximal isoline of the inner boundary. The use of sampling in building the pyramid offers computational efficiency, reduces the amount of used memory, increase the robustness and preserve the quality results. An analysis of the two approaches is performed considering the number of pixels processed to create each level. Also the relation between the levels of the hierarchical structures is established.

This paper proposes a simple object extraction and recognition method with efficient searching for identifying and extracting the objects in a complex scene based on the color features. The background of the images is needed to be extracted and recognized in order to get the object of the interested in the images first. This can be achieved by getting the best separation line between building and road, followed by the interested objects (vehicles) on the road. The vehicle objects are represented by using Minimum Bound Rectangle (MBR) and the vehicle object representative points will be the left bottom coordinate of the MBR. The color of the vehicles will be used as the attributes of the objects. Experiments have been conducted to demonstrate that single and multiple known objects in complex scenes can be extracted by using this approach.

In accordance with diverse customized products, an increased attention has been paid to the order fulfilment process in configure-to-order production. However, most of the solutions reported either focus on isolated areas without considering the impacts from/on the related issues or approach order fulfilment processes from a strategic level. In view of the limitations of existing solutions and the significance of order fulfilment activity automation and integration, this study proposes an integrated order fulfillment system (IOFS) by considering the entire spectrum of order fulfilment process at an operational level. The IOFS is designed to automatically execute order processing, configure products and process plans based on product and process family models. It assists companies to quickly respond to diverse customer requirements and deliver the expected products at low costs. An industrial example of turn unit assemblies is presented to demonstrate the feasibility and potential of the IOFS.

Electromagnetic (EM) modeling and simulation techniques for passive linear systems as in 3D ICs and SIPs are presented. On TSVs' we present high throughput analytical 2D admittance (CG) and impedance (RL) models, with consideration of MOS effect in silicon. These 2D models are computationally useful for parasitic estimates, while the simulation of critical subsystems requires 3D accurate models. We show results from an emerging 3D field solver solution to the computation of the RL matrices with very low overhead on the matrix elements computation, being analytically tractable for cylindrical TSVs. For extraction and simulation of systems containing a significant number of passive elements, the output from field solver is best expressed as passive dynamical models generated with an efficient semi-definite programming algorithm.

Planning production processes for product families (i.e., process family planning) has been recognized as a key to achieving production efficiency. In view of the advantages of Petri nets (PNs) for modeling large systems and the potential of knowledge-based systems (KBSs) for solving complex problems, we develop a methodology integrating PNs and KBSs to support process family planning. An integrated product-process family structure, called IP2S, is proposed to organize data pertaining to a product family and the corresponding process family. Accordingly, a PN model integrating the principles of several well-defined PN extensions is further developed to model the dynamics of process family planning (i.e., how production processes are planned for a product family). Based on the methodology, a prototype is developed, and applied to planning production processes for a truck family.

High-resolution image collections pose unique challenges to analysts tasked with managing the associated data assets and deriving new information from them. While significant progress has been made towards rapid automated filtering, alignment, segmentation, characterization, and feature identification from image collections, the extraction of new insights still strongly depends on human intervention. In real-time capture and immediate-mode analysis environments where image data has to be continuously and interactively processed, a broad set of challenges in the image-driven verification and analysis cycle have to be addressed. A framework for interactive and intuitive inspection of large, high-resolution image data sets is presented, leveraging the strength of the human visual system for large-scale image processing. A case study is provided for an X-ray radiography system, covering the scanner-to-screen data management and representation pipeline, resulting in a visual analytics environment enabling analytical reasoning by means of interactive and intuitive visualization.

The main challenge of ground penetrating radar (GPR) based foundation detection is to have an accurate image analysis method. In order to solve the detection problem a system level analysis of the issues involved with the recognition of foundations using image reconstruction is required. The SIMCA ('SIMulated Correlation Algorithm') is a technique based on an area correlation between the trace that would be returned by an ideal point reflector in the soil conditions at the site and the actual trace. During an initialization phase, SIMCA carries out radar simulation using the design parameters of the radar and soil properties. Then SIMCA takes the raw data as the radar is scanned over the ground and in real-time uses a clutter removal technique to remove various clutter such as cross talk, initial ground reflection and antenna ringing. The trace which would be returned by a target under these conditions is then used to form a correlation kernel. The GPR b-scan is then correlated with the kernel using the Pearson correlation coefficient, resulting in a correlated image which is brightest at points most similar to the canonical target. This image is then raised to an odd power >;2 to enhance the target/background separation. To validate and compare the algorithm, photographs of the building before it was demolished along with processed data using the REFLEXW package were used. The results produced by the SIMCA algorithm were very promising and were able to locate some features that the REFLEXW package were not able to identify.

Most developer prefers not to use formal specification (FS) approach in designing a database system. In recent years, these approaches have been seen as rivals, a new consensus has been developed in which software developers are agreed it as complementary. Theoretically this approach can reduce the overall development time, use to provide an unambiguous and precise supplement to natural language descriptions. Focus to this point, it can be rigorously validated and verified leading to the early detection of specification errors or debugs during software development process. Correcting errors at the early development stage is cheaper than modifying a delivered system. A FS could be verified in order to explore the consequences of this specification and potentially find mistakes. After it was done, we have greater confidence that the testing of such system against the actual user requirement specification. This paper discusses the FS of spatial and non spatial Information Databases Integration (SIDIF) model as a case study.

Large test data volume and high test power consumption are two major concerns for the industry when testing large integrated circuits. Linear decompress or-based compression (LDC) is efficient in reducing test data volume, while X-filling during ATPG can efficiently reduce test power with low overhead. However, traditional X-filling methods cannot be reused in the LDC environment. In this paper, we propose a virtual circuit model to make the linear de-compressor transparent to the external testing. As a result, existing X-filling methods can be reused to reduce test power. Experimental results on benchmark circuits demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach.
