The shape of a NURBS curve or surface is defined by the location of its control points, the control points' weights, and the knot vectors. Most of the curve and surface design tried to modify the control points. However, it is still impossible to obtained accurate control points for a reconstructed NURBS curve or surface. The fitness of these surfaces is generally considered a subjective notion depending on the judgment of the designers (eg. visually pleasing, devoid of unnecessary bumps or wiggles, satisfying certain continuity requirements). One of the restriction in ship hull design is that the existing details of a ship design on paper or a ship that already been constructed physically couldn't be reconstructed accurately and concisely in a ship hull design software. This research strives to solve this problem by creating fair ship hull surface using NURBS. An optimized NURBS ship hull fitting approach using simulated annealing is developed. Evaluation and analysis (accuracy, fairness and speed of processing) on the proposed approach is done.

Recently, depth-image-based rendering has been suggested for 3D video creation, in which a monoscopic video stream is recorded along with a depth (range) video stream and a stereoscopic video stream is then generated at the user end. The fundamental assumption of this framework is the full availability of range images at video rate. In this work, we alleviate this hard demand and assume that only limited resources of range images are available, i.e. corresponding range images exist for some, but not all, color images of the monoscopic video stream. We propose to synthesize the missing range images between two consecutive range images. Our approach eases the recording of 3D material by using less expensive range sensors and enables to enhance existing 2D video material with 3D effect by limited manual overhead. Experiments on real videos have demonstrated very encouraging results. Especially, one 3D video was generated from a 2D video without any sensory 3D data available at all. In a quality evaluation using an auto stereoscopic 3D display, the test viewers have attested similar 3D video quality for our synthesis technique and rendering based on depth ground truth

Image signature is a signal that is significantly shorter and simpler than the image signal and can be used to efficiently identify the original image. Generating an image signature that accurately represents an image can only be done by means of extracting specific features of the image and express it in an efficient way. In this paper, a new wavelet-packets-based (WP) image signature that can be used for image indexing and fast retrieval is proposed. This signature is generated via encoding the position of specific points of the signal that represents some statistics of the wavelet packets coefficients in the various frequency bands. computer simulation results using nearly 7500 image signatures show that the targeted image signature was identified with a very high accuracy in a very short period of time. Also, it showed that the proposed signature is robust against geometric transformation
