Jitter in multimedia traffic is mainly introduced by variations in network characteristics. Ifjitter is so significant in the application that is receiving, this can result in a degraded performance in real-time multimedia communications applications. Jitter causes inaudible audio or unclear video which can be undesirable and uncomfortable to the user. Buffers are often employed to temporarily to store arriving packets before playing them at equal intervals to curb and minimize jitter. Jitter for voice packets should not exceed 20-50 milliseconds within a given stream. This paper proposes a method to reducejitter in intermediate nodes is proposed, such that when the packets arrive at the receiving end, there would be little or nojitter to process in the de-jitter buffer. We analyze M/G/1 nonpreemptive and pre-emptive resume priority queuing in the intermediate node and analyze how these models will affect delay and jitter. We found out that preemptive priority queuing performs better but almost the same to non-preemptive priority queuing. Both Priority based queues performed much better than the First in First out queue. © 2022 IEEE.

The principle of multiplicity is introduced for the components of the investment planning process. Some algorithms are given that ensure the process of investment planning at the regional level: the formation of integrated assessments of investment projects, automated generation of projects, multicriteria evaluation and selection of projects, taking into account the mutual influence of projects, optimizing the composition of projects, and taking into account financing restrictions. The features of the program system intended for the formation of plans for the territorial and sectoral development of the region are considered.

Software-defined networking (SDN) is a pioneering network paradigm that strategically decouples the control plane from the data and management planes, thereby streamlining network administration. SDN's centralized network management makes configuring access control list (ACL) policies easier, which is important as these policies frequently change due to network application needs and topology modifications. Consequently, this action may trigger modifications at the SDN controller. In response, the controller performs computational tasks to generate updated flow rules in accordance with modified ACL policies and installs flow rules at the data plane. Existing research has investigated reactive flow rules installation that changes in ACL policies result in packet violations and network inefficiencies. Network management becomes difficult due to deleting inconsistent flow rules and computing new flow rules per modified ACL policies. The proposed solution efficiently handles ACL policy change phenomena by automatically detecting ACL policy change and accordingly detecting and deleting inconsistent flow rules along with the caching at the controller and adding new flow rules at the data plane. A comprehensive analysis of both proactive and reactive mechanisms in SDN is carried out to achieve this. To facilitate the evaluation of these mechanisms, the ACL policies are modeled using a 5-tuple structure comprising Source, Destination, Protocol, Ports, and Action. The resulting policies are then translated into a policy implementation file and transmitted to the controller. Subsequently, the controller utilizes the network topology and the ACL policies to calculate the necessary flow rules and caches these flow rules in hash table in addition to installing them at the switches. The proposed solution is simulated in Mininet Emulator using a set of ACL policies, hosts, and switches. Chaos is not only a unique chapter in the theory of dynamical systems but also a useful one with many applications in the field of communications. In this work a cyclometric modification of the well-known example of chaotic systems, the modified differential equations describing the behavior of the Chua-circuit is investigated. The results obtained can be applied in the encryption methods of the implementation of different communication channels like machine-machine or cognitive one. © 2023 IEEE.

The global health products supply chain is negatively influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the risks in the pharmaceutical supply chain (PSC) have increased. Assessment and mitigation risks in PSC are essential issues to control and counter these risks. In this study, a 2-Tuple ARAS-BWM approach, which combines ARAS and BWM methods under linguistic 2-Tuple environment, is proposed to evaluate and address various risks to the best mitigation strategies in the pharmaceutical industry in Tunisia during COVID-19. Noted that the main risk identified in the PSC is related to supply and suppliers and its best mitigation strategy is reducing risk.

This paper presents an analysis of the safety aspects of a Remote Driving System (RDS) using the System-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) methodology. The focus is on the human Remote Driver (RD) within the RDS, considering losses and system-level hazards associated with the human-in-the-loop scenario which focuses on the RD actions related to the change in Steering Wheel Angle (SWA). The STPA methodology is applied to identify Unsafe Control Actions (UCA) related to the change in SWA command, resulting in the identification of numerous Causal Factors (CF) that may lead to hazardous scenarios. Several UCAs and CFs are identified that provide information on potential hazards and risks associated with remote driving technology. Based on a selected UCA where the RD does not change the SWA when the road network requires lateral movement, 25 potential loss scenarios were identified and presented in this paper. The results of this work can contribute to the understanding of potential risks and the development of safety mitigation measures in the context of RDS which need to be validated in further research.

One of the significant challenges in treatment effect estimation is collider bias, a specific form of sample selection bias induced by the common causes of both the treatment and outcome. Identifying treatment effects under collider bias requires well-defined shadow variables in observational data, which are assumed to be related to the outcome and independent of the sample selection mechanism, conditional on the other observed variables. However, finding a valid shadow variable is not an easy task in real-world scenarios and requires domain-specific knowledge from experts. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel method that can automatically learn shadow-variable representations from observational data without prior knowledge. To ensure the learned representations satisfy the assumptions of the shadow variable, we introduce a tester to perform hypothesis testing in the representation learning process. We iteratively generate representations and test whether they satisfy the shadow-variable assumptions until they pass the test. With the help of the learned shadow-variable representations, we propose a novel treatment effect estimator to address collider bias. Experiments show that the proposed methods outperform existing treatment effect estimation methods under collider bias and prove their potential application value.

Nowadays, computer users face a challenge in maintaining the security of their information. There are many techniques for transferring information safely over networks. Image steganography, one of these techniques, is an effective way to conceal important information. The Least Significant Bit (LSB) technique is a famous method for data hiding. This technique exchanges the LSBs of the cover image pixel with the mystery message bits. However, it was always the challenging problem of increasing the number of bits utilized for embedding that led to a decreased quality of the stego image. Hence, this research targets optimizing the stego image quality by inverting the LSBs of image pixels to reduce the changes that occur in pixels. This paper proposes a new method based on summing the pairs and inverting the LSBs of the cover image pixels. The secret data are arranged in pairs, and then the sum of every two successive pairs is computed. After that, the secret bits are embedded by inverting the pixel bits depending on that sum. Finally, for more enhancement of the results, some of the inverted bits will be inverted again. Rigorous experiments using benchmark datasets confirm that the proposed scheme yields superior results compared to the substitution LSB scheme. Also, shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach in achieving a high payload with acceptable visual quality for stego image that cannot be noticed by human eyes when compared with state-of-the-art steganography techniques.

Distributed averaging is among the most relevant cooperative control problems, with applications in sensor and robotic networks, distributed signal processing, data fusion, and load balancing. Consensus and gossip algorithms have been investigated and successfully deployed in multi-agent systems to perform distributed averaging in synchronous and asynchronous settings. This study proposes a heuristic approach to estimate the convergence rate of averaging algorithms in a distributed manner, relying on the computation and propagation of local graph metrics while entailing simple data elaboration and small message passing. The protocol enables nodes to predict the time (or the number of interactions) needed to estimate the global average with the desired accuracy. Consequently, nodes can make informed decisions on their use of measured and estimated data while gaining awareness of the global structure of the network, as well as their role in it. The study presents relevant applications to outliers identification and performance evaluation in switching topologies. © 2023, CC BY.
