Model Predictive control (MPC) is a widely adopted control paradigm that leverages predictive models to estimate future system states and optimize control inputs accordingly. However, while MPC excels in planning and control, it lacks the capability for environmental perception, leading to failures in complex and unstructured scenarios. To address this limitation, we introduce Vision-Language Model Predictive control (VLMPC), a robotic manipulation planning framework that integrates the perception power of vision-language models (VLMs) with MPC. VLMPC utilizes a conditional action sampling module that takes a goal image or language instruction as input and leverages VLM to generate candidate action sequences. These candidates are fed into a video prediction model that simulates future frames based on the actions. In addition, we propose an enhanced variant, Traj-VLMPC, which replaces video prediction with motion trajectory generation to reduce computational complexity while maintaining accuracy. Traj-VLMPC estimates motion dynamics conditioned on the candidate actions, offering a more efficient alternative for long-horizon tasks and real-time applications. Both VLMPC and Traj-VLMPC select the optimal action sequence using a VLM-based hierarchical cost function that captures both pixel-level and knowledge-level consistency between the current observation and the task input. We demonstrate that both approaches outperform existing state-of-the-art methods on public benchmarks and achieve excellent performance in various real-world robotic manipulation tasks. A large fraction of recent network management tasks rely on Internet traffic matrices, ranging from planning and troubleshooting to routing and anomaly detection. Despite extensive research efforts over the years, acquiring a comprehensive overview of network traffic remains a difficult and error-prone task. While the literature has mostly proposed increasingly accurate and complex Machine Learning (ML) models to reconstruct missing information, in this paper we propose an alternative approach to further enhance this process: combining the ML model with eXplainable AI (XAI) to analyze the model behavior, detect most significant features, and limit the reconstruction process to such reduced input. With this methodology, not only we simplify the problem, but the entire solution finds greater deployability as the data acquisition phase is also simplified. Numerical results demonstrate that, with our solution on a Convolution Neural Network model, the error during completion can be lowered by 80% for a network telemetry traffic reduction of 75%.

Network measurement and telemetry techniques are central to the management of modern computer networks. Internet traffic matrix estimation is a popular technique employed for network management and telemetry to reconstruct missing information. Existing approaches use statistical methods, which often make impractical assumptions about the structure of the Internet traffic matrix. Data-driven methods, instead, heavily rely on the assumption of full knowledge of network topology data, that may be unavailable or impractical to collect. In this work, we propose ResCue, a deep residual networks technique to infer fine-grained Internet network traffic starting from spatial coarse-grained measurements. To address scenarios with network visibility constraints, we design a federated learning approach for fine-grained traffic prediction with partial network knowledge. Our evaluation across real-world traffic data shows that our proposed approach outperforms existing interpolation techniques and that our federated learning design achieves similar accuracy with respect to its centralized counterpart while requiring only partial knowledge of the network.

An Escort and Defense Scenario is presented in which a high-value Target maneuvers through a high-risk region while being escorted by a mobile, defensive agent. Along this trajectory, an Attacker may be launched from one of several possible launch locations. If a launch occurs, the three agents play out a Target-Attacker-Defender (TAD) differential game in which the Defender attempts to intercept the Attacker at maximal distance from the Target while the Attacker strives to maneuver as close as possible to the Target. Prior to launch, the Target and Defender strive to preposition themselves in advantageous positions to effectively respond to a potential threat while simultaneously moving towards a safety region. An augmented collocation-based direct optimal control method is developed to solve the escort problem by solving and utilizing the value of the TAD differential subgame at each collocation point while simultaneously optimizing the primary optimal control problem. © 2024 IEEE.

The soaring complexity of networks has led to more complex methods to efficiently manage and orchestrate the multitude of network environments. Recent advances in machine learning (ML) have opened new opportunities for network management automation, exploiting existing advances in software-defined infrastructures. Advanced routing strategies have been proposed to accommodate the traffic demand of interactive systems, where the common architecture is composed of a data-driven network management schema collecting network data that feed a reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm. However, the overhead introduced by the SDN controller and its operations can be mitigated if the networking architecture is redesigned. In this paper, we propose ROAR, a novel architectural solution that implements Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) inside P4 programmable switches to perform adaptive routing policies based on network conditions and traffic patterns. The network devices act independently in a multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) framework but are able to learn cooperative behaviors to reduce the queuing time of transmitting packets. Experimental results show that for an increasing amount of traffic in the network, there is both a throughput and delay improvement in the transmission compared to traditional approaches.

This paper proposes a non-iterative LMI-based design strategy for guaranteed cost static output feedback controllers for linear systems. The proposed design approach is based on the well-known necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the static output feedback stabilizing control for linear systems. In this paper, for linear systems we show the non-iterative LMI-based design procedure for static output feedback controllers which minimize the upper bound of a given quadratic cost function, and the effectiveness of the proposed static output feedback controller with guaranteed cost is presented through a simple numerical example. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a Risk-Aware Nonlinear Reduced-Order Model Predictive control framework that utilizes real-time state estimation, reduced-order modeling, and optimization for reliable and efficient path planning with low energy consumption. Our method employs filtering techniques to estimate the system's state by correcting for process and measurement noise, providing an accurate representation of the vehicle's position and environment. A reduced-order model predicts future states based on the estimated input, while the optimizer adjusts control inputs to meet trajectory and safety constraints, such as avoiding obstacles. By incorporating adapted filtering techniques and optimized cost functions, our approach minimizes computational overhead while maintaining precise control over vehicle navigation. In the experiments, we introduce communication and process noises, allowing the robot to operate without knowing the precise location of obstacles and resulting in potential near-collisions. This involves redefining the constrained optimal control problem for a reduced-order model, addressing input constraints amidst uncertainties. Our method achieves over 94% success in collision-free navigation within the first 50 steps, while maintaining precise trajectory alignment and adapting to environmental changes. It also improves prediction speed up to 15% per cycle compared to NMPC and demonstrates 91% overall effectiveness in avoiding collisions and reaching the target. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

The rapid growth of internet population poses a serious challenge to the security of internet resources. The security is directly affected by the hits of Denial of Services (DoS) attack which is rampant nowadays. With this evolving threat, designing a cutting-edge method is difficult from a cyber-security perspective. In this study, we propose a deep learning-based system for detecting Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, which utilizes Logistic Regression, K- Nearest Neighbor, and Random Forest algorithms. We assess proposed models using a recently updated NSL KDD dataset. Our research's findings also demonstrate that proposed model is highly accurate in detecting Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Our results show that our proposed model significantly improves upon current state-of-the-art attack detection methods. © 2023 IEEE.

An optimal modulation scheme with Triple-Phase-Shift (TPS) control that increase efficiency in the whole load range is presented for a Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter under wide output voltage range conditions. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the DAB with TPS modulation, identifying all the switching modes to operate the DAB where expressions for the transfer functions, the peak inductor current and RMS inductor current are provided. An analysis of minimum Peak Current and minimum RMS Current control also are investigated. On this basic all-ZVS modulation scheme is originally proposed to improve light-load efficiency and to reduce the switching losses. A 15 kW prototype circuit is applied, and experimental results are presented to validate that the modulation and efficiency improvement are realized by applying the optimized modulation scheme. The experimental results also verify the effectiveness of the closed-loop control strategy. © 2023 The Korean Institute of Power Electronics.
