Retrospect and prospect on integration of gain and phase for feedback stability analysis

In this paper,we review existing approaches to integrating small gain and small phase analysis for feedback stability of dynamical systems,and give a brief outlook for possible future directions in exploring this *** gain analysis has been very successful and popular in control theory since 1960s,while the small phase analysis for multiple-input-multiple-output systems has not been well understood until recently and is now gradually taking ***,there have been attempts to analyzing feedback stability via the integration of gain and phase information over decades,including the combination of small gain with positive realness as well as that with negative *** combinations can be subsumed into a recently proposed framework for gain-phase integration,which brings in new geometrical methods and also sheds new lights on several future directions.

microRNAs play an important role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. Recently, viral microRNAs have been discovered in several viruses, including Hepatitis B virus. This brief work explores bioinformatics tools for viral/host miRNA research and provides insights into the roles of miRNAs in HBV infection, offering an overview of this field, in order to facilitate the selection of the most suitable bioinformatics tools according to individual needs and research goals. © 2023 IEEE.

The use of magnetic resonance (MR) Image has become more significant when treating rectal cancer. Rectal cancer can be staged more accurately with MRI, which serves as a great tool for choosing the most suitable course of action. Image pre-processing is used to improve the quality of image and making it better for analysis and further processing. The study carried out in this paper is concentrated on pre-processing methods like Gaussian and Sobel filtering. The filtering techniques were implemented on Pelvic MR images obtained from Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal. The findings suggest that Sobel filtering had a superior output image quality, indicating its potential as a preferred preprocessing technique for enhancing Pelvic MR images in rectal cancer diagnosis and treatment planning. The output image efficiency is calculated by Peak to Signal Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Mean Square Error (MSE). © 2024 Owner/Author.

As the utilization of supercapacitors in power system applications continues to increase, it is important to observe their behavior under transient and long-term operations in order to understand their impact on power grids. A real-time reconfigurable hardware testbed (HTB) is a power network emulator that provides flexibility to study various power system scenarios. This paper presents an emulation of a supercapacitor for a photovoltaic (PV) system on the HTB platform such that its dynamic behavior during power system scenarios can be observed. The developed emulator on the HTB is verified by comparing the emulation results with the model developed in MATLAB/Simulink. The experimental results of the emulator are consistent with the simulation results under the grid support scenarios. This supercapacitor emulator can be potentially used for various power system scenarios in addition to the PV applications presented in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

When studying string vibrations, the linear wave equation is most often used. This does not take into account the dependence of the string tension force on the amplitude. For metals, even with a slight elongation, the tension force will increase significantly, which will affect the speed of propagation of transverse waves and the frequency of vibrations. The speed of transverse vibrations is limited by the tensile strength of the material. Thus, for high-strength silicon-chromium-manganese steel, the ratio of the speed of longitudinal waves to the maximum speed of transverse waves is approximately equal to 10. For other materials, this ratio is much larger, so we will assume that longitudinal deformations at each moment of time have time to be evenly distributed along the length of the string, because during one transverse vibration a large number of longitudinal vibrations occur. © 2024 IEEE.

In this study, the etching characteristics of C4F6 gas are investigated using inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching equipment to apply a high-aspect-ratio etching process to SiO2. The use of a CF4 + C4F6 + He gas mixture in the ICP etching system provides a lower F atom density, a higher polymerization capacity with increasing C4F6 gas proportion, and better SiO2/amorphous carbon layer selectivity. With an increase in the C4F6 gas mixing ratio, the bowing phenomenon is alleviated, and a vertically etched profile is formed regardless of the source and bias power. The etching characteristics demonstrate that ICP etching using C4F6 gas is an excellent alternative to capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) etching for the development of next-generation high-aspect-ratio-contact etching processes. © 2025 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

The economic dispatch problem (EDP) poses a significant challenge in energy management for modern power systems, particularly as these systems undergo expansion. This growth escalates the demand for communication resources and increases the risk of communication failures. To address this challenge, we propose a distributed algorithm with network-independent step sizes and an event-triggered mechanism, which reduces communication requirements and enhances adaptability. Unlike traditional methods, our algorithm uses network-independent step sizes derived from each agent's local cost functions, thus eliminating the need for detailed network topology knowledge. The theoretical derivation identifies a range of step size values that depend solely on the objective function's strong convexity and the gradient's Lipschitz continuity. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is shown to achieve a linear convergence rate, assuming the event triggering threshold criteria are met for linear convergence. Numerical experiments further validate the effectiveness and advantages of our proposed distributed algorithm by demonstrating its ability to maintain good convergence characteristics while reducing communication frequency. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Imputing the incomplete patterns in clustering tasks is a common but risky procedure, because the estimated values may affect the real distribution of the data and deteriorate the results. To address this problem, a new belief-based incomplete pattern unsupervised classification method (BPC) with uncertainty and imprecision reasoning is proposed in this paper. First, the complete patterns are grouped into a few clusters to obtain the corresponding reliable centers, and thereby are divided into reliable patterns and unreliable ones by an optimization method. Second, a basic classifier trained by reliable patterns is employed to classify unreliable patterns and incomplete patterns edited by the neighbors. Finally, some imprecise patterns are carefully reassigned again by a new distance-based rule depending on the obtained reliable centers and belief functions theory. The simulation results show that the BPC has the potential to deal with real datasets. © 2023 IEEE.

Despite the drug approval process consists of extremely rigorous clinical and preclinical studies, not all side effects are identified before its marketing, posing a significant risk to public health. Furthermore, considering the huge use of economic and human resources, in-silico predictive approaches for the identification of side effects are essential. In this study, we introduce a new method based on random walk with restart algorithm to delineate previously unidentified links between drugs and side effects, and we apply it on the drug-induced Asthma and long QT syndrome. We identified the genes potentially involved in the development of the analyzed side effect by comparing side-effect-related drugs with drugs not known to induce side effects. Analyzing the sets of genes most likely influenced by the perturbation of each individual drug, we observed that, on average, side-effect-related drugs perturb a higher percentage of genes involved in the development of side effects compared to side-effect-unrelated drugs. Based on this finding, we developed a classifier to explore all possible unknown associations between drugs and side effects. This method can be extended to the analysis of other side effects as well. © 2023 IEEE.
