Accurate short-term network-wide traffic prediction is essential to guarantee high service quality in urban traffic control systems. Nevertheless, traffic state time series represent network-scale spatiotemporal co-movement patterns and location-specific features. Therefore, hybrid statistical machine learning (ml) algorithms could be utilized to accommodate the aforementioned characteristics. In this paper, a hybrid random forest (rf) and extreme gradient boosting tree (XGBoost) model is introduced for network-wide traffic prediction. Moreover, a multi-noise oriented basis wavelet transform (OBT) filter is employed to pre-process the original time series, and improve the predictive accuracy. The RF model captures the traffic co-movements and the XGBoost extracts the local information. Comparative analysis of the hybrid algorithm and deep learning-based benchmarks indicate better performance of the proposed methodology in hourly traffic state prediction of 30 loop detectors, located in the paris city center. Hence, the hybrid decision-tree-based mechanism is a useful framework for real-time network traffic forecasting offering fewer trainable (hyper-)parameters, and thus, lower computational cost. © 2024 IEEE.

The end-to-end learning framework for autonomous cars has attracted considerable interest in recent years from both industry and academia. To control an autonomous car, this approach requires developing a model that links sensory perception, such as picture frames from a camcorder, to learn the optimal and safe driving actions. To develop a completely automated driving, it is possible to use professional driver experience more efficiently by using the end-to-end learning approach rather than spending a significant amount of money on labelling like bounding boxes for things. The conventional self-driving system, which typically consists of detection, positioning, mapping, and route planning manually fails to perform well with dynamic autonomous vehicles. We proposed a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) framework for learning the autonomous driving to convert front-facing camera data from raw pixels and learn the steering commands. This end-to-end strategy has shown very promising results compared to the traditional self-driving models. The proposed CNN framework learns to intelligently drive in traffic on local roads with or without lane markings, on motorways, and with the least amount of training data from experts. Additionally, it also works smartly in places with obscure visual cues, including parking lots and gravel roadways. The system spontaneously picks up internal demonstrations of the essential processing phases, like identifying convenient road objects, by learning the human steering angle as the training input. © 2023 SPIE.

Incidence of surge within axial compressors profoundly influences efficacy, reliability of aero-engines. Conventional methodologies in engine design have predominantly concentrated on precise ,efficient forecasting critical characteristics during such occurrences. paper presents novel approach for predicting surge phenomenon in axial compressors. Surge is a major issue in operation axial compressors, causing reduced performance, increased wear, tear, complete machine failure. proposed approach utilizes NN model based on compressor's design data to forecast behavior of compressor's working map under off-design conditions. model is verified using real data collected over five years during compressor operation, including opening angle (IGV), important parameter often ignored or assumed to be fixed in previous studies. results show NN-based approach effectively predicts compressor's behavior under different operating conditions, providing valuable insights into onset of surge , offering real-time surge prediction ,control ,ability to predict compressor's working map enables optimizing its performance , controlling instability. model was validated by comparing its predictions with real operating conditions observed over five years across various compressor operating modes. As result, predictive model enables safe operation of axial compressors by mitigating instability risks during operation. study's findings highlight model's effectiveness, as evidenced by minimal error observed between predicted and actual data collected across various compressor operating modes. model exhibits strong performance, characterized by high regression factor of 0.92667 , low mean squared error of 3.04465 x 10^-3. numerical values underscore reliability , precision proposed approach in predicting operation of axial compressor under diverse conditions, ultimately contributing to enhanced stability , safety during compressor operations. © 2024, The Authors. Exploiting Hankel–Toeplitz Structures for Fast Computation of Kernel Precision Matrices

The Hilbert–space Gaussian Process (hgp) approach offers a hyperparameter-independent basis function approximation for speeding up Gaussian Process (gp) inference by projecting the gp onto M basis functions. These properties result in a favorable data-independent O(M3) computational complexity during hyperparameter optimization but require a dominating one-time precomputation of the precision matrix costing O(NM2) operations. In this paper, we lower this dominating computational complexity to O(NM) with no additional approximations. We can do this because we realize that the precision matrix can be split into a sum of Hankel–Toeplitz matrices, each having O(M) unique entries. Based on this realization we propose computing only these unique entries at O(NM) costs. Further, we develop two theorems that prescribe sufficient conditions for the complexity reduction to hold generally for a wide range of other approximate gp models, such as the Variational Fourier Feature (vff) approach. The two theorems do this with no assumptions on the data and no additional approximations of the gp models themselves. Thus, our contribution provides a pure speed-up of several existing, widely used, gp approximations, without further approximations. © 2024, CC BY.

This work presents the design, construction, and validation of a chamber for magnetic field attenuation. Needs of magnetic background controlling during experiments focused on behavior of biological samples exposed to various levels of the low frequency time-varying magnetic field set the motivation for this work. The solution is proposed with regard to the correct cultivation conditions of microbiological samples. The chosen methodology is established on the means of numerical modeling and simulations, as well as 3D printing techniques. The design process incorporates computer-aided design (CAD) software for the chamber proposal, subsequent printing via a 3D printer, followed by the construction of an attenuating chamber using mu-metal foil. The validation process involves measurements of magnetic flux density within the chamber, and comparison thereof with numerical simulations performed via CST Design Studio. All the solution steps resulted in a valid and effective magnetic field attenuation chamber, suitable for use in laboratory conditions.

As the network-structure complexity and the passenger volume continuously grow, how to accurately perform passenger flow guidance is a crucial issue for metro operators. Transfer route recommendation is a core approach for passenger flow guidance. Existing works are limited in obtaining route attributes (such as transfer walking time and waiting time, etc.). Furthermore, most of existing methods may not work well in the scenario of sudden passenger flow, because of their limited capability to accurately measure the real-time crowding. To address these issues, a data fusion based transfer route recommendation method (DFTRR) is proposed. Specifically, we first propose a spatio-temporal diversity-based method (STD) to measure the trajectory similarity. Based on that, we fuse two kinds of heterogeneous data, i.e., swiping records of smart cards and Wi-Fi signal records of mobile devices to extract a passenger's complete trip. And then we present the historical median travel time to alleviate the computation issue of route attributes. Meanwhile the mean crowding level is introduced to accurately measure the real-time crowding of routes. Finally, a generalized travel cost based on median travel time, number of transfers and mean crowding level is constructed for transfer route recommendation. The experimental results illustrate that the accuracy of STD algorithm is higher than the baseline 34.92% at maximum;DFTRR can offer the optimal transfer route according to passengers' preferences under sudden passenger flow. © 2022 IEEE.

Working in multi-talker mode is viable under certain conditions, such as the fusion of audio and video stimuli along with smart adaptive beamforming of received audio signals. In this article, the authors verify part of the researched novel framework, which focuses on adapting to dynamic interlocutor’s location changes in the engagement zone of humanoid robots during the multi-talker conversation. After evaluating the framework, the authors confirm the necessity of a complementary and independent method of increasing the interlocutor’s signal isolation accuracy. It is necessary when video analysis performance plummets. The authors described the leading cause as insufficient performance during dynamic conversations. The video analysis cannot derive a new configuration when the interlocutor’s speech apparatus moves beyond the expected margin and the video frame rate drops.

The forecasting of of pseudo-measurements play an important role in distribution system state estimation (DSSE). This paper proposes robust DSSE method based on forecasting-aided graphical learning method. The nodal power consumption models are first built to produce pseudo-measurements based on deep neural network. Then, the pseudo-measurements and real-time measurements are represented as a graph according to the topology of the distribution network, which are further processed by a graph attention network to capture the mapping relationship between the graphical measurements and the state variables based on the error modeling of pseudo-measurements. The robustness against anomalous measurements is achieved through the embedding of structural information of DN. The modeling of pseudo-measurements further enhance its robustness by guiding the formulation of edge weights of the graph neural network. Comparative tests are carried out on a IEEE 119-node system to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method. © 2024, State Grid Electric Power.

We introduce a novel differentially private algorithm for online federated learning that employs temporally correlated noise to enhance utility while ensuring privacy of continuously released models. To address challenges posed by DP noise and local updates with streaming non-iid data, we develop a perturbed iterate analysis to control the impact of the DP noise on the utility. Moreover, we demonstrate how the drift errors from local updates can be effectively managed under a quasi-strong convexity condition. Subject to an $(\epsilon, \delta)$ DP budget, we establish a dynamic regret bound over the entire time horizon, quantifying the impact of key parameters and the intensity of changes in dynamic environments. Numerical experiments confirm the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.
