Pretrained language models (PLMs) that are trained over large-scale data and then finetuned on downstream tasks have achieved great success. However, they are vulnerable to adversarial attacks. Adversarial training with both clean and adversarial data is a widely-used technique to improve model robustness. In this paper, we propose FeatureMix, a straightforward yet effective adversarial defense strategy for PLMs by finetuning on both discrete adversarial examples and online virtual examples. During finetuning, we augment clean data with discrete attacks first and generate virtual examples in each finetuning epoch by randomly mixing local latent features in the hidden layers of augmented data pairs. The virtual examples serve as additional training signals, regularizing the PLMs to favor mixing of latent features between discrete augmented examples and thus enhance adversarial robustness. The experimental evaluation results show that FeatureMix outperforms prevailing baseline methods in terms of robustness against adversarial attacks, without significantly reducing generalization performance.

An Escort and Defense Scenario is presented in which a high-value Target maneuvers through a high-risk region while being escorted by a mobile, defensive agent. Along this trajectory, an Attacker may be launched from one of several possible launch locations. If a launch occurs, the three agents play out a Target-Attacker-Defender (TAD) differential game in which the Defender attempts to intercept the Attacker at maximal distance from the Target while the Attacker strives to maneuver as close as possible to the Target. Prior to launch, the Target and Defender strive to preposition themselves in advantageous positions to effectively respond to a potential threat while simultaneously moving towards a safety region. An augmented collocation-based direct optimal control method is developed to solve the escort problem by solving and utilizing the value of the TAD differential subgame at each collocation point while simultaneously optimizing the primary optimal control problem.

The aim of the project was to build a prototype of a turbine drive with a controllable thrust vector for a long-range vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The construction of the prototype required the development of a vectoring system for the tail propulsion system and a dedicated VTOL aircraft stabilization and control system. The prototype of the turbine drive system was based on energy-efficient electric motors. Research also involved modeling the turbine propulsion aerodynamics with usage of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. This paper presents a real-time power split strategy for a battery-supercapacitor hybrid energy storage system. The objective of the proposed strategy is to alleviate battery degradation through effective supercapacitor utilization. The proposed strategy employs an adaptive neural fuzzy inference system, which is capable of learning a power split strategy from offline optimization results and distributing power in real-time. The performance of the strategy proposed and a low pass filtering technique is compared through simulations. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively reduce battery capacity loss and perform well under unknown driving cycles in real time. © 2023 IEEE.

Observer-Based control of Second-Order Multi-vehicle Systems in Bearing-Persistently Exciting Formations

This paper proposes an observer-based formation tracking control approach for multi-vehicle systems with second-order motion dynamics, assuming that vehicles' relative or global position and velocity measurements are unavailable. It is assumed that all vehicles are equipped with sensors capable of sensing the bearings relative to neighboring vehicles and only one leader vehicle has access to its global position. Each vehicle estimates its absolute position and velocity using relative bearing measurements and the estimates of neighboring vehicles received over a communication network. A distributed observer-based controller is designed, relying only on bearing and acceleration measurements. This work further explores the concept of the Bearing Persistently Exciting (BPE) formation by proposing new algorithms for bearing-based localization and state estimation of second-order systems in centralized and decentralized manners. It also examines conditions on the desired formation to guarantee the exponential stability of distributed observer-based formation tracking controllers. In support of our theoretical results, some simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed observers as well as the observer-based tracking controllers. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Autonomous intelligence plays a significant role in aviation *** most aviation accidents occur in the take-off and landing stage,accurate tracking of moving object in airport apron will be a vital approach to ensure the operation of the aircraft *** this study,an adaptive object tracking method based on a discriminant is proposed in multi-camera panorama surveillance of large-scale airport ***,based on channels of color histogram,the pre-estimated object probability map is employed to reduce searching computation,and the optimization of the disturbance suppression options can make good resistance to similar areas around the *** the object score of probability map is obtained by the sliding window,and the candidate window with the highest probability map score is selected as the new object ***,according to the new object location,the probability map is updated,the scale estimation function is adjusted to the size of real *** qualitative and quantitative analysis,the comparison experiments are verified in representative video sequences,and our approach outperforms typical methods,such as distraction-aware online tracking,mean shift,variance ratio,and adaptive colour attributes.

In the subject of corpus linguistics, this study explores the use of transformer-based neural networks to the problems of predictive text production in multilingual contexts. The Transformer architecture presents a viable framework for natural language processing problems because of its reputation for capturing complex patterns and long-range dependencies in sequential data. The research employs a two-phase approach, whereby the Transformer is first pre-Trained using a variety of multilingual corpora. This helps the model learn representations that are independent of language, which makes it easier for it to adapt to various linguistic circumstances. The model is then fine-Tuned using language-specific datasets to improve its ability to produce linguistically nuanced and contextually appropriate text. The study looks into how different model architectures, training methods, and hyperparameters affect how well the suggested multilingual predictive text generation system performs. Evaluation measures are used to evaluate the model's performance in several languages, including linguistic diversity measurements, BLEU scores, and perplexity. The overall accuracy, calculated across all languages, stands at 80.3%, indicating the model's robust cross-lingual generalization and its effectiveness in capturing diverse linguistic nuances The efficacy and generalization of Transformer-based models are improved across a wide range of languages to handle linguistic diversity. © 2024 IEEE.

English Language-Based Virtual Assistants (ELB-VAs) are AI-powered systems designed to comprehend and respond to user queries in the English language, exemplified by virtual assistants like Siri or Alexa. The need for balancing transparency and user privacy in ELB-VAs is paramount due to their pervasive integration into daily life. Ensuring transparency imbues user trust, while safeguarding privacy addresses ethical concerns associated with personal data. Existing methods involve clear privacy policies, user-controlled data sharing settings, and encryption. However, drawbacks include user confusion and potential biases. To address these limitations, this study proposes a novel approach. Methodologically, it integrates pre-processing techniques such as lowercasing and tokenization, coupled with a Natural Language Understanding model. This model undergoes intent and entity recognition training, enhancing accuracy, and incorporates privacy-aware response generation, ensuring informative yet privacy-conscious interactions. The implementation of the study's results is carried out using Python tools, showcasing improved metrics and response times. This approach contributes to a more transparent and privacy-respecting user experience, aligning with evolving ethical norms and setting the stage for advancements in ELB-VA technology. This comprehensive exploration bridges existing gaps, emphasizing the ethical imperative of user-centric and privacy-aware AI interactions in ELB- VAs. The proposed NLU model exhibits a substantial increase in accuracy compared to other methods, with an impressive accuracy value of 99.1%• On average, it outperforms the Random Forest and Decision Tree models by 15.7 percentage points, highlighting its superior predictive capabilities in the evaluated task. This comprehensive exploration aligns with evolving ethical norms and establishes a foundation for future advancements in ELB-VA technology. © 2024 IEEE.

Spiking neural networks (SNNs) have captured apparent interest over the recent years, stemming from neuroscience and reaching the field of artificial intelligence. However, due to their nature SNNs remain far behind in achieving the exceptional performance of deep neural networks (DNNs). As a result, many scholars are exploring ways to enhance SNNs by using learning techniques from DNNs. While this approach has been proven to achieve considerable improvements in SNN performance, we propose another perspective: enhancing the biological plausibility of the models to leverage the advantages of SNNs fully. Our approach aims to propose a brain-like combination of audio-visual signal processing for recognition tasks, intended to succeed in more bio-plausible human-robot interaction applications. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.
