Research has examined the process of engaging end-users in co-designing a simulation model and using it within workplace settings. In contrast, few studies document the software development aspect of creating, packaging, and deploying a simulation platform that satisfies end-users' needs. In this case study, we detail these aspects regarding a platform involving Agent-Based Modeling for youth suicide prevention. Goals and constraints are detailed in three categories of needs, each showing how competing demands are addressed via software solutions: 1) data, encompassing data security (e.g., no direct access to individual-level data) and data updates (e.g., changing a model's initialization without coding expertise); 2) deployment, to satisfy security protocols (e.g., secure intranet communications) and the end-users' experience (e.g., ease of installation); 3) accessibility, ensuring that individuals with impairments are not excluded from using simulations. By presenting practical solutions to each category, our case study supports modelers in addressing their own deployment needs.

In addition to increasing the output current, an interleaved buck converter can significantly reduce the current ripple at the output. However, the bottleneck of the interleaved buck converter application is the unbalanced inductor current. In order to achieve the current balance in the entire section of the duty cycle, this paper proposes a control architecture with interleaved alignment, using the adjustment of the duty cycle and phase offset, to analyze and realize a high output current and current balanced in three-arm series capacitor interleaved buck converters (SCIBCs) in this work. By analyzing and modeling the SCIBC and using a single-loop control architecture that feedbacks the output voltage, the proposed current-balancing method balances all inductors’ current within the full duty cycle without any current sensor. In addition, the small-signal transfer function of the control signal to the output voltage and design of the controller parameters are derived according to the specification, and the SCIBC with the proposed current-balancing control with PI controller of the alignment of interleaved phase angle is constructed. The high output current and current-balancing characteristics of the proposed circuit control architecture are validated in the simulation tool SIMPLIS.

The study of dynamical systems on complex networks is of paramount importance in engineering, given that many natural and artificial systems find a natural embedding on discrete topologies. For instance, power grids, chemical reactors and the brain, to name a few, can be modeled through the network formalism by considering elementary units coupled via the links. In recent years, scholars have developed numerical and theoretical tools to study the stability of those coupled systems when subjected to perturbations. In such framework, it was found that asymmetric couplings enhance the possibilities for such systems to become unstable. Moreover, in this scenario the polynomials whose stability needs to be studied bear complex coefficients, which makes the analysis more difficult. In this work, we put to use a recent extension of the well-known Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion, allowing to treat the complex coefficient case. Then, using the Brusselator model as a case study, we discuss the stability conditions and the regions of parameters when the networked system remains stable.

In this paper, we propose a secure-by-construction scheme for synthesizing controllers to enforce safety and security properties simultaneously over control systems. As a key insight, we establish a bridge between the desired safety and security properties by leveraging notions of (augmented) control barrier functions. Based on these functions, we show that one can synthesize secure-by-construction controllers for control systems with continuous state and input sets. Additionally, we provide sum-of-square (SOS) conditions under which the desired (augmented) control barrier functions can be constructed. Finally, we demonstrate the applicability of our results on a case study.
