In time-critical systems, such as air traffic control systems, it is crucial to design control policies that are robust to timing uncertainty. Recently, the notion of Asynchronous Temporal Robustness (ATR) was proposed to capture the robustness of a system trajectory against individual time shifts in its sub-trajectories. In a multi-robot system, this may correspond to individual robots being delayed or early. control synthesis under ATR constraints is challenging and has not yet been addressed. In this paper, we propose an efficient control synthesis method under ATR constraints which are defined with respect to simple safety or complex signal temporal logic specifications. Given an ATR bound, we compute a sequence of control inputs so that the specification is satisfied by the system as long as each sub-trajectory is shifted not more than the ATR bound. We avoid combinatorially exploring all shifted sub-trajectories by first identifying redundancy between them. We capture this insight by the notion of instant-shift pair sets, and then propose an optimization program that enforces the specification only over the instant-shift pair sets. We show soundness and completeness of our method and analyze its computational complexity. Finally, we present various illustrative case studies.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of Model Predictive control (MPC) of dynamic systems for high-level specifications described by Signal Temporal Logic (STL) formulae. Recent works show that MPC has the great potential in handling logical tasks in reactive environments. However, existing approaches suffer from the heavy computational burden, especially for tasks with large horizons. In this work, we propose a computationally more efficient MPC framework for STL tasks based on time interval decomposition. Specifically, we still use the standard shrink horizon MPC framework with Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) techniques for open-loop optimization problems. However, instead of applying MPC directly for the entire task horizon, we decompose the STL formula into several sub-tasks with disjoint time horizons, and shrinking horizon MPC is applied for each short-horizon sub-task iteratively. To guarantee the satisfaction of the entire STL formula and to ensure the recursive feasibility of the iterative process, we introduce new terminal constraints to connect each sub-task. We show how these terminal constraints can be computed by an effective inner-approximation approach. The computational efficiency of our approach is illustrated by a case study.

Event-triggered control has attracted considerable attention for its effectiveness in resource-restricted applications. To make event-triggered control as an end-to-end solution, a key issue is how to effectively learn unknown system dynamics from event-triggered measurements and consequently, develop a learning-based event-triggered controller. Existing works learn system dynamics based on periodic time-triggered measurements, and it is yet to know how to learn a controller with performance guarantee based on event-triggered measurements. To address this issue, we consider the problem of learning an event-triggered state feedback controller for an unknown linear system based on event-triggered state measurements in this work. In particular, we first analyze the event-triggered measurements within a set-membership framework. We prove that the estimation error belongs to a bounded ellipsoid determined by the historical measurements and the event-triggering condition. Subsequently, we demonstrate that all admissible systems compatible with the collected data samples can be explicitly represented in the form of quadratic matrix inequalities using the state estimates. With the acquired set of admissible systems, a co-design problem for the data-driven controller and event-triggering condition is solved using the linear matrix inequality technique, with guaranteed closed-loop stability and L2-gain performance. Finally, numerical examples and comparisons are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed event-triggered learning and control approach. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Due to their highly flexible deployment and agility features, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) serving as aerial base stations are increasingly being used in challenging environments, including emergency communication, traffic offloading, and failures of existing communications infrastructure. A reliable and effective communication service requires 3D deployment and autonomous UAV trajectory optimization in each time slot. While most prior approaches focus on trajectory design that maximizes communication coverage or network throughput without considering fairness as well as computation time. This paper presents a multi-UAV trajectory control and fair communication (TCFC) scheme that maximizes ground user data rate and communication coverage while ensuring service fairness in a UAV-aided wireless communications system. The proposed TCFC scheme employs a two-stage learning approach. Firstly, it develops a gated recurrent unit-based link quality estimation model to assess each user's link quality over time. Then, a federated multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (FedMADRL) algorithm is utilized to continuously adjust the trajectory of the UAVs, optimizing communication performance. We evaluated our proposed system using real channel measurement data, i.e., amplitude and phase signal information. The results show that the proposed TCFC scheme reduces computation time by 26.91% and provides comparable network performance with the baseline methods while improving DRL agents' privacy. © 2025 IEEE.

The paper describes the process of the information objects classification in e-learning systems using the mathematical background of fuzzy logic. This approach can be used to improve the process of searching and organizing information in e-learning systems. As the volume of educational materials grows, it becomes more and more difficult to find and structure information. Fuzzy logic helps to optimize the search, and the use of a neural network can correctly classify materials in e-learning systems, which increases the efficiency and accuracy of search queries. © 2023 IEEE.

Sleep When Everything Looks Fine: Self-Triggered Monitoring for Signal Temporal Logic Tasks

Online monitoring is a widely used technique in assessing if the performance of the system satisfies some desired requirements during run-time operation. Existing works on online monitoring usually assume that the monitor can acquire system information periodically at each time instant. However, such a periodic mechanism may be unnecessarily energy-consuming as it essentially requires to turn on sensors consistently. In this paper, we proposed a novel self-triggered mechanism for model-based online monitoring of discrete-time dynamical system under specifications described by signal temporal logic (STL) formulae. Specifically, instead of sampling the system state at each time instant, a self-triggered monitor can actively determine when the next system state is sampled in addition to its monitoring decision regarding the satisfaction of the task. We propose an effective algorithm for synthesizing such a self-triggered monitor that can correctly evaluate a given STL formula on-the-fly while maximizing the time interval between two observations. We show that, compared with the standard online monitor with periodic information, the proposed self-triggered monitor can significantly reduce observation burden while ensuring that no information of the STL formula is lost. Query-guided Prototype Evolution Network for Few-Shot Segmentation

Previous Few-Shot Segmentation (FSS) approaches exclusively utilize support features for prototype generation, neglecting the specific requirements of the query. To address this, we present the Query-guided Prototype Evolution Network (QPENet), a new method that integrates query features into the generation process of foreground and background prototypes, thereby yielding customized prototypes attuned to specific queries. The evolution of the foreground prototype is accomplished through a support-query-support iterative process involving two new modules: Pseudo-prototype Generation (PPG) and Dual Prototype Evolution (DPE). The PPG module employs support features to create an initial prototype for the preliminary segmentation of the query image, resulting in a pseudo-prototype reflecting the unique needs of the current query. Subsequently, the DPE module performs reverse segmentation on support images using this pseudo-prototype, leading to the generation of evolved prototypes, which can be considered as custom solutions. As for the background prototype, the evolution begins with a global background prototype that represents the generalized features of all training images. We also design a Global Background Cleansing (GBC) module to eliminate potential adverse components mirroring the characteristics of the current foreground class. Experimental results on the PASCAL-5i and COCO-20i datasets attest to the substantial enhancements achieved by QPENet over prevailing state-of-the-art techniques, underscoring the validity of our ideas. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

This work addresses the critical challenge of integrating drones into human-aerial robot interaction by presenting a novel Soft Flexible Aerial Robotics (SFAR) design. SFAR features an innovative low-pressure inflatable airbag structure that replaces traditional rigid frames, enhancing safety by mitigating collision risks with humans and payloads. To control this unconventional aerial platform, we present a control strategy based on a virtual link dynamics model that exploits the drone’s unique design. Our contributions include the pioneering design of an aerial robot specifically for Human-Aerial Robot Interaction (HARI), a novel control framework that balances flight performance with passive safety, and the validation of SFAR through real-world experiments, demonstrating its ability to perform at par with traditional rigid-body drones while offering enhanced safety features for seamless and safe integration into human environments.

Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability.

Decentralized strategies have been extensively applied to LQ optimal control problems, whereas, stochastic systems with unknown random parameters have not been comprehensively studied. In this paper, we consider a class of stochastic systems with a decentralized configuration consisting of multiple controllers which have access to Gaussian noises with unknown statistical information. The stabilizing and optimal control strategies are acquired by designing a novel stochastic approximation algorithm recursively evaluating the zero points of certain matrix equations, which is confirmed to be equivalent with solving the corresponding Riccati equations. The proof of convergence and boundness of the proposed algorithm is presented.
