In federated learning (FL), model training is distributed over clients and local models are aggregated by a central server. The performance of uploaded models in such situations can vary widely due to imbalanced data distributions, potential demands on privacy protections, and quality of transmissions. In this paper, we aim to minimize FL training delay over wireless channels, constrained by overall training performance as well as each client's differential privacy (DP) requirement. We solve this problem in the framework of multi-agent multiarmed bandit (MAMAB) to deal with the situation where there are multiple clients confornting different unknown transmission environments, e.g., channel fading and interferences. Specifically, we first transform the long-term constraints on both training performance and each client's DP into a virtual queue based on the Lyapunov drift technique. Then, we convert the MAMAB to a max-min bipartite matching problem at each communication round, by estimating rewards with the upper confidence bound (UCB) approach. More importantly, we propose two efficient solutions to this matching problem, i.e., modified Hungarian algorithm and greedy matching with a better alternative (GMBA), in which the first one can achieve the optimal solution with a high complexity while the second one approaches a better tradeoff by enabling a verified low-complexity with little performance loss. In addition, we develop an upper bound on the expected regret of this MAMAB based FL framework, which shows a linear growth over the logarithm of communication rounds, justifying its theoretical feasibility. Extensive experimental results are conducted to validate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithms, and the impacts of various parameters on the FL performance over wireless edge networks are also discussed. Multi-sensor fusion of multi-modal measurements from commodity inertial, visual and LiDAR sensors to provide robust and accurate 6DOF pose estimation holds great potential in robotics and beyond. In this paper, building upon our prior work (i.e., LIC-Fusion), we develop a sliding-window filter based LiDAR-Inertial-Camera odometry with online spatiotemporal calibration (i.e., LIC-Fusion 2.0), which introduces a novel sliding-window plane-feature tracking for efficiently processing 3D LiDAR point clouds. In particular, after motion compensation for LiDAR points by leveraging IMU data, low-curvature planar points are extracted and tracked across the sliding window. A novel outlier rejection criterion is proposed in the plane-feature tracking for high quality data association. Only the tracked planar points belonging to the same plane will be used for plane initialization, which makes the plane extraction efficient and robust. Moreover, we perform the observability analysis for the LiDAR-IMU subsystem and report the degenerate cases for spatiotemporal calibration using plane features. While the estimation consistency and identified degenerate motions are validated in Monte-Carlo simulations, different real-world experiments are also conducted to show that the proposed LIC-Fusion 2.0 outperforms its predecessor and other state-of-the-art methods. Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) enables robots to perform some intelligent tasks end-to-end. However, there are still many challenges for long-horizon sparse-reward robotic manipulator tasks. On the one hand, a sparse-reward setting causes exploration inefficient. On the other hand, exploration using physical robots is of high cost and unsafe. In this paper, we propose a method of learning long-horizon sparse-reward tasks utilizing one or more existing traditional controllers named base controllers in this paper. Built upon Deep Deterministic Policy Gradients (DDPG), our algorithm incorporates the existing base controllers into stages of exploration, value learning, and policy update. Furthermore, we present a straightforward way of synthesizing different base controllers to integrate their strengths. Through experiments ranging from stacking blocks to cups, it is demonstrated that the learned state-based or image-based policies steadily outperform base controllers. Compared to previous works of learning from demonstrations, our method improves sample efficiency by orders of magnitude and improves the performance. Overall, our method bears the potential of leveraging existing industrial robot manipulation systems to build more flexible and intelligent controllers. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Respiratory symptoms can be a caused by different underlying conditions, and are often caused by viral infections, such as Influenza-like illnesses or other emerging viruses like the Coronavirus. These respiratory viruses, often, have common symptoms, including coughing, high temperature, congested nose, and difficulty breathing. However, early diagnosis of the type of the virus, can be crucial, especially in cases such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic. One of the factors that contributed to the spread of the pandemic, was the late diagnosis or confusing it with regular flu-like symptoms. science has proved that one of the possible differentiators of the underlying causes of these different respiratory diseases is coughing, which comes in different types and forms. Therefore, a reliable lab-free tool for early and more accurate diagnosis that can differentiate between different respiratory diseases is very much needed. This paper proposes an end-to-end portable system that can record data from patients with symptom, including coughs (voluntary or involuntary) and translate them into health data for diagnosis, and with the aid of machine learning, classify them into different respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. With the ongoing efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19 disease everywhere today, and against similar diseases in the future, our proposed low cost and user-friendly solution can play an important part in the early diagnosis. Motional quantum effects of tunneling methyl radical isolated in solid gases as they appear on experimental electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra are examined. Obtained analytical expressions of the tunneling frequency for methyl rotor/torsional-oscillator utilizing localized Hermite polynomials are compared to full numerical computations and tested against experimental EPR lineshape simulations. In particular, the X-band of methyl radical was displaying partial anisotropy averaging even at lowest temperatures. EPR lineshape simulations involving rotational dynamics were applied for the accurate determination of the potential barrier and the tunneling frequency. Tunneling frequency, as the splitting between the A and E torsional levels by the presence of a periodic C3 model potential with periodic boundary conditions, was computed and related to the EPR-lineshape alteration. The corresponding C2 rotary tunneling about the in-plane axes of methyl was also studied while both the C2 and C3 rotations were compared with the rotation of deuteriated methyl radical. © Nikolas P. All-optical analog-to-digital conversion is a paramount issue in modern science. How to implement real-time and ultrafast quantization to optical pulses with different intensities in an all-optical domain is a central problem. Here, we report a realtime demonstration of an all-optical quantization scheme based on slicing the supercontinuum in a nonlinear fiber. In comparison with previous schemes through off-line analysis of the power of different optical spectral components in the supercontinuum, this, to the best of our knowledge, is the first demonstration of such functionality online in the time ***, the extinction ratio among the quantized outputs can exceed 10 d B, which further confirms the feasibility of the proposed quantization scheme. The current 3 bit resolution in the proof-of-principle experiment is limited by the current experimental condition, but it can be expected to be greatly enhanced through improving both the spectral width of the generated supercontinuum and the number of filtering channels used.

In this paper, the nonlinear dynamics of the biological system modeled by the fractional incommensurate order Van der Pol equations are investigated. The stability of the proposed fractional non-autonomous system is analyzed by varying both the fractional order derivative and system parameters. Moreover, very interesting phenomena such as symmetry, multi-stability and coexistence of attractors are discovered in the considered biological system. Numerical simulations are performed by considering the Caputo fractional derivative and results are reported by means of bifurcation diagrams, computation of the largest Lyapunov exponent, phase portraits in 2D and 3D projections.

With the rapid development of measurwement technology, LiDAR and depth cameras are widely used in the perception of the 3D environment. Recent learning based methods for robot perception most focus on the image or video, but deep learning methods for dynamic 3D point cloud sequences are underexplored. Therefore, developing efficient and accurate perception method compatible with these advanced instruments is pivotal to autonomous driving and service robots. An Anchor-based Spatio-Temporal Attention 3D Convolution operation (ASTA3DConv) is proposed in this paper to process dynamic 3D point cloud sequences. The proposed convolution operation builds a regular receptive field around each point by setting several virtual anchors around each point. The features of neighborhood points are firstly aggregated to each anchor based on the spatio-temporal attention mechanism. Then, anchor-based 3D convolution is adopted to aggregate these anchors' features to the core points. The proposed method makes better use of the structured information within the local region and learns spatio-temporal embedding features from dynamic 3D point cloud sequences. Anchor-based Spatio-Temporal Attention 3D Convolutional Neural Networks (ASTA3DCNNs) are built for classification and segmentation tasks based on the proposed ASTA3DConv and evaluated on action recognition and semantic segmentation tasks. The experiments and ablation studies on MSRAction3D and Synthia datasets demonstrate the superior performance and effectiveness of our method for dynamic 3D point cloud sequences. Our method achieves the state-of-the-art performance among the methods with dynamic 3D point cloud sequences as input on MSRAction3D and Synthia datasets. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. The paper deals with two nonlinear elliptic equations with (p, q)-Laplacian and the Dirichlet-Neumann-Dirichlet (DND) boundary conditions, and Dirichlet-Neumann-Neumann (DNN) boundary conditions, respectively. Under mild hypotheses, we prove the unique weak solvability of the elliptic mixed boundary value problems. Then, a comparison and a monotonicity results for the solutions of elliptic mixed boundary value problems are established. We examine a convergence result which shows that the solution of (DND) can be approached by the solution of (DNN). Moreover, two optimal control problems governed by (DND) and (DNN), respectively, are considered, and an existence result for optimal control problems is obtained.
