This paper proposes a novel local reproduction method called 'personalized sound zone,' which can confine a sound field by using a combination of software processing and hardware innovations that remove loudspeaker enclosures from an array, and discusses the development of a headrest loudspeaker prototype unit not to leak sound into adjacent seats for airline seating. The proposed method is based on a two-channel fixed beamforming algorithm that does not require extensive equipment, and its prototype is compact enough to fit in a seat headrest. The personalized sound zone software algorithm is implemented on a DSP circuit board and processed in real time. © 2024 IEEE.

The integration of different learning paradigms has long been a focus of machine learning research, aimed at overcoming the inherent limitations of individual methods. Fuzzy rule-based models excel in interpretability and have seen widespread application across diverse fields. However, they face challenges such as complex design specifications and scalability issues with large datasets. The fusion of different techniques and strategies, particularly gradient boosting, with fuzzy rule-based models offers a robust solution to these challenges. This article proposes an integrated fusion framework that merges the strengths of both paradigms to enhance model performance and interpretability. At each iteration, a fuzzy rule-based model is constructed and controlled by a dynamic factor to optimize its contribution to the overall ensemble. This control factor serves multiple purposes: it prevents model dominance, encourages diversity, acts as a regularization parameter, and provides a mechanism for dynamic tuning based on model performance, thus mitigating the risk of overfitting. Additionally, the framework incorporates a sample-based correction mechanism that allows for adaptive adjustments based on feedback from a validation set. Experimental results substantiate the efficacy of the presented gradient-boosting framework for fuzzy rule-based models, demonstrating performance enhancement, especially in terms of mitigating overfitting and complexity typically associated with many rules. By leveraging an optimal factor to govern the contribution of each model, the framework improves performance, maintains interpretability, and simplifies the maintenance and update of the models. © 2024 IEEE.

Privacy concerns have led to the rise of federated recommender systems (FRS), which can create personalized models across distributed clients. However, FRS is vulnerable to poisoning attacks, where malicious users manipulate gradients to promote their target items intentionally. Existing attacks against FRS have limitations, as they depend on specific models and prior knowledge, restricting their real-world applicability. In our exploration of practical FRS vulnerabilities, we devise a model-agnostic and prior-knowledge-free attack, named PIECK (Popular Item Embedding based Attack). The core module of PIECK is popular item mining, which leverages embedding changes during FRS training to effectively identify the popular items. Built upon the core module, PIECK branches into two diverse solutions: The PIECKIPE solution employs an item popularity enhancement module, which aligns the embeddings of targeted items with the mined popular items to increase item exposure. The PIECKUEA further enhances the robustness of the attack by using a user embedding approximation module, which approximates private user embeddings using mined popular items. Upon identifying PIECK, we evaluate existing federated defense methods and find them ineffective against PIECK, as poisonous gradients inevitably overwhelm the cold target items. We then propose a novel defense method by introducing two regularization terms during user training, which constrain item popularity enhancement and user embedding approximation while preserving FRS performance. We evaluate PIECK and its defense across two base models, three real datasets, four top-tier attacks, and six general defense methods, affirming the efficacy of both PIECK and its defense. © 2024 IEEE.

The economy is one of the determinants of how a person can live their life. In this current economic situation, inflation occurs everywhere, causing the prices of necessities to rise. In order to have a decent life, people must find a job with the highest possible salary to fulfill their needs. Various job industries have their salary range. Obtaining the information of salary level for the respective job is helpful for employers and employees to estimate the expected salary. This work aims to classify the salary level of jobs available in Indonesia and determine whether those salaries are decent enough. The learning methods are logistic regression, decision tree, k-nearest neighbor, support vector machine, voting classifier, bagging classifier, random forest, and boosting classifier. Random Forest achieved the best result with an accuracy rate of 72%. Based on the analysis result, factors such as job field, educational background, working experience, working hours, and job location influence salary. © 2023 IEEE.

The growing consumer base and expanding market for various music styles highlight the necessity of classifying music genres to cater to people's preferences. Manual music ranking is a labor-intensive process for listeners, prompting the need for a more efficient approach. This involves the extraction of Mel-frequency cepstral coefficient feature maps from the log Mel-spectrograms of audio clips. The extracted feature maps are supplied to a multiclass semi-supervised deep convolutional generative adversarial network where the discriminator behaves as a classifier. The training of models involves utilizing the GTZAN standardized dataset, a publicly accessible collection of thousands of audio files spanning ten different genres, from which 80% and 20% of the data are used for training and testing, respectively. Finally, the paper discusses the performance of the semi-supervised deep convolutional generative adversarial network through the RMSprop and Adam optimizers on the original and augmented labeled and unlabeled MFCC feature maps. Without any data augmentation, the discriminator achieves a training accuracy of 97.9% and a test accuracy of about 45.67%. In contrast, the discriminator's training accuracy is about 98.3%, and the test accuracy is 84.75% with data augmentation. © 2024 IEEE.

The proliferation of interconnected devices is driving a surge in the demand for wireless spectrum. Meeting the need for wireless channel access for every device, while also ensuring consistent quality of service (QoS), poses significant challenges. This is particularly true for resource-limited heterogeneous devices within Internet of Things (IoT) networks. Cognitive radio (CR) technology addresses the shortcomings of traditional fixed channel allocation policies by enabling unlicensed users to opportunistically access unused spectrum belonging to licensed users. This facilitates timely and reliable transmission of mission-critical data packets. A cognitive radio-enabled IoT (CR-IoT) network is poised to better accommodate the growing demands of diverse applications and services within the smart city framework, spanning areas such as healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, transportation, environment, public safety, and pharmaceuticals. To minimize switching delays and ensure energy and spectral efficiency, this study proposes a hybrid intelligent system for efficient channel allocation and packet transmission in CR-IoT networks. Leveraging Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), the system dynamically manages spectrum resources to minimize handoffs while upholding QoS. A Java-based simulation integrates system outputs with interference temperature data to accommodate service demands across 2G-4G spectrums. Evaluation reveals SVM's 98.8% accuracy in detecting spectrum holes and ANFIS's 90.4% accuracy in channel allocation. These results demonstrate significant potential for enhancing spectrum utilization in various IoT applications. © 2024-IOS Press. All rights reserved.

We propose a novel framework for incorporating unlabeled data into semi-supervised classification problems, where scenarios involving the minimization of either i) adversarially robust or ii) non-robust loss functions have been considered. Notably, we allow the unlabeled samples to deviate slightly (in total variation sense) from the in-domain distribution. The core idea behind our framework is to combine Distributionally Robust Optimization (DRO) with self-supervised training. As a result, we also leverage efficient polynomial-time algorithms for the training stage. From a theoretical standpoint, we apply our framework on the classification problem of a mixture of two Gaussians in Rd, where in addition to the m independent and labeled samples from the true distribution, a set of n (usually with n m) out of domain and unlabeled samples are given as well. Using only the labeled data, it is known that the generalization error can be bounded by ∝ (d/m)1/2. However, using our method on both isotropic and non-isotropic Gaussian mixture models, one can derive a new set of analytically explicit and non-asymptotic bounds which show substantial improvement on the generalization error compared to ERM. Our results underscore two significant insights: 1) out-of-domain samples, even when unlabeled, can be harnessed to narrow the generalization gap, provided that the true data distribution adheres to a form of the "cluster assumption", and 2) the semi-supervised learning paradigm can be regarded as a special case of our framework when there are no distributional shifts. We validate our claims through experiments conducted on a variety of synthetic and real-world datasets. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. Knowledge graph (KG) demonstrates substantial potential for enhancing the performance of recommender systems. Due to its rich semantic content and associations among interactive entities, it can effectively alleviate inherent limitations in collaborative filtering (CF), such as data sparsity or cold-start issues. However, most existing knowledge-aware recommendation models indiscriminately aggregate all information in KG, without considering information specifically relevant to the recommendation task. Such indiscriminate aggregation could introduce additional noisy knowledge into representation learning, which can distort the understanding of users' genuine preferences, thereby sacrificing the recommendation quality. In this paper, we introduce the principle of invariance to the knowledge-aware recommendation, culminating in our Knowledge Graph Invariant Learning (KGIL) framework. It aims to discern and harness the task-relevant knowledge connections within KG to enhance the recommendation models. Specifically, we employ multiple environment generators to simulate diverse noisy KG-environments. Then we devise a novel attention learning mechanism for KG and user-item interaction graph, aiming to learn environment-invariant subgraphs. Leveraging an adversarial optimization strategy, we enhance the diversity of the environments, meanwhile, promote invariant representation learning across environments. We conduct extensive experiments on three datasets and compare KGIL with state-of-the-art methods. The experimental results further demonstrate the superiority of our approach. © 2024 ACM.
