Cybersecurity plays an important role in protecting people and critical infrastructure. Sectors such as energy, defense and healthcare are increasingly at risk from cyber threats. To address these challenges, dedicated Security Operations Centers (SOCs) continuously monitor threats and respond to critical issues. Our research focuses on the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to optimize the tasks of SOCs and to support security professionals. In this work, we propose a framework, which we call CyberGuardian, whose main goal is to provide a chatbot application along with a set of tools to support SOC analysts in real-time cybersecurity tasks. We use state-of-the-art LLM techniques and start from a Llama 2 model, then fine-tune the base model using a new dataset containing mainly cybersecurity topics. The CyberGuardian framework has a plugin architecture that integrates processes such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), safeguard methods for interaction between human user and chatbot, integration with tools to manage tasks such as database interactions, code generation and execution, and plotting graphs just by specifying the task in a natural language. The work, along with the dataset we collected and reusable code to update or customize, is made available to the cybersecurity community as open source. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

While cost, time, and resources are considered to have a high impact on data science projects, risks are the key for the successful implementation of a project. The correct handling of risks has been proven to increase a project’s chances of success. Therefore, awareness of existing and emerging risks as well as their assessment play a major role in data science project management. In 2021, 87 percent of data science projects fail and are thus not implemented successfully. The path of successful implementation of data science projects in companies is more complex and uncertain than for conventional projects, in particular the identification and availability of the necessary skills in a company before and during the project. Regarding software engineering projects, the analysis and evaluation of potential risks is well-known, but for data science projects potential risks have not yet been analyzed at a larger scale. To identify the potential reasons for failure of data science projects, an in-depth understanding of potential risks and measures for mitigation these risks is inevitable. In this paper, we conduct a systematic literature review on risks of data science projects and present the top fifteen risks as first findings. Furthermore, we compare the identified risks to the major risks of software engineering projects to highlight similarities and differences between these two disciplines. The findings of our literature review can be used in guiding the development of future risk assessment systems for complex data science projects. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors. Android applications classification with deep neural networks

Currently, Android is the most widely used mobile operating system globally. This platform has become a target for malware activities due to its technological and user appeal, open-source code, and the possibility of installing apps from third-party vendors without much restrictions or centralized control. Although it has security features, recent reports of malicious activities and Android’s vulnerabilities have heightened the need for robust frameworks and approaches to improve its security. Recent studies have proposed many security methods, using static analysis, dynamic analysis, and artificial intelligence techniques to prevent malware attacks. Current sophistication of Android malware infections has made the detection of malicious apps a significant challenge. In this study, deep-learning techniques for categorizing Android applications are examined. Initially, we suggested a deep belief neural network-based applications categorization approach. With clearly defined training and testing splits from the CIC-AAGM2017 Android datasets, we further trained and assessed our neural network’s classification performance against four conventional deep feed-forward neural networks and seven baseline models based on machine-learning algorithms. The experimental results showed that the proposed neural network could classify Android apps into benign and malicious categories with 98.7% accuracy. The classification accuracy of the DBN-based model is 1.86% higher than that of other deep learning-based models studied by recent research contributions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

In this paper, a discrete-time projection neural network with an adaptive step size (DPNN) is proposed for distributed global optimization. The DPNN is proven to be convergent to a Karush-Kuhn-Tucker point. Several DPNNs are utilized in a collaborative neurodynamic framework for solving distributed global optimization problem. The efficacy of the collaborative neurodynamic approach with DPNNs is demonstrated through simulation results. © 2025 IEEE.

data valuation quantifies the contribution of each data point to the performance of a machine learning model. Existing works typically define the value of data by its improvement of the validation performance of the trained model. However, this approach can be impractical to apply in collaborative machine learning and data marketplace since it is difficult for the parties/buyers to agree on a common validation dataset or determine the exact validation distribution a priori. To address this, we propose a distributionally robust data valuation approach to perform data valuation without known/fixed validation distributions. Our approach defines the value of data by its improvement of the distributionally robust generalization error (DRGE), thus providing a worst-case performance guarantee without a known/fixed validation distribution. However, since computing DRGE directly is infeasible, we propose using model deviation as a proxy for the marginal improvement of DRGE (for kernel regression and neural networks) to compute data values. Furthermore, we identify a notion of uniqueness where low uniqueness characterizes low-value data. We empirically demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing data valuation approaches in data selection and data removal tasks on real-world datasets (e.g., housing price prediction, diabetes hospitalization prediction). Cloud computing solutions are becoming more and more popular as a way for organizations to improve productivity, save costs, and simplify procedures. The advantage of cloud services is that they enable users to store data remotely and access on-demand applications and services from a shared pool of configurable computing resources. Cloud computing resource allocation faces challenges in load balancing, effective resource management, and compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, requiring complex tools and techniques for optimal use. Most organizations are moving to cloud services and encouraging their clients to access services online. However, effective resource allocation is critical for improving performance and lowering costs in this area. Due to unpredictable network traffic in cloud computing, resource allocation is challenging, which causes customers to complain about application timeouts, delayed system times, and higher bandwidth use during peak hours. This entails allocating resources to various users and programs, such as memory, processing power, storage, and network bandwidth. In this regard, this study compares the ensemble method, which is stepwise Gaussian Linear Autoregressive (SGLA) and the individual method, which is autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA). The results show SGLA prediction accuracy increased with an average of 97.9%, and ARIMA prediction showed an accuracy of 71.5%. In this regard the ensemble method performed better than individual methods using the same datasets. The study recommends the ensemble method for the prediction and allocation of resources in cloud computing. © 2024 IEEE.

Transferable neural architecture search (TNAS) has been introduced to design efficient neural architectures for multiple tasks, to enhance the practical applicability of NAS in real-world scenarios. In TNAS, architectural knowledge accumulated in previous search processes is reused to warm up the architecture search for new tasks. However, existing TNAS methods still search in an extensive search space, necessitating the evaluation of numerous architectures. To overcome this challenge, this work proposes a novel transfer paradigm, i.e., design principle transfer. In this work, the linguistic description of various structural components’ effects on architectural performance is termed design principles. They are learned from established architectures and then can be reused to reduce the search space by discarding unpromising architectures. Searching in the refined search space can boost both the search performance and efficiency for new NAS tasks. To this end, a large language model (LLM)-assisted design principle transfer (LAPT) framework is devised. In LAPT, LLM is applied to automatically reason the design principles from a set of given architectures, and then a principle adaptation method is applied to refine these principles progressively based on the new search results. Experimental results show that LAPT can beat the state-of-the-art TNAS methods on most tasks and achieve comparable performance on others. India being an agricultural country, food quality tracking is a major challenge faced by common farmers across the country. This research presents an innovative integration of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to address key challenges in agriculture - fruit quality tracking and plant disease detection. The unified system comprises the Fruit Quality Tracker and the Plant Disease Detector, leveraging advanced image analysis for precision agriculture. The Fruit Quality Tracker uses computer vision to assess ripeness and defects in real-time, empowering farmers with informed decisions. Simultaneously, the Plant Disease Detector swiftly identifies and classifies diseases, mitigating economic losses. The research explores architectural nuances, development methodologies, and deployment on Google Cloud Platform. Testing shows high accuracy rates of 98.5% for fruit quality and 98.83% for plant disease detection. The system's transformative potential in agriculture is highlighted, bridging the gap between technology and sustainable food production systems. © 2024 IEEE.

In today’s corporate landscape, the creation of questionnaires, surveys or evaluation forms for employees is a widespread practice. These tools are regularly used to check various aspects such as motivation, opportunities for improvement, satisfaction levels and even potential cybersecurity risks. A common limitation lies in their generic nature: they often lack personalization and rely on predetermined questions. Our research focuses on improving this process by introducing AI agents based on reinforcement learning. These agents dynamically adapt the content of surveys to each person based on their unique personality traits. Our framework is open source and can be seamlessly integrated into various use cases in different industries or academic research. To evaluate the effectiveness of the approach, we tackle a real-life scenario: the detection of potentially inappropriate behavior in the workplace. In this context, the reinforcement learning-based AI agents function like human recruiters and create personalized surveys. The results are encouraging, as they show that our decision algorithms for content selection are very similar to those of recruiters. The open-source framework also includes tools for detailed post-analysis for further decision making and explanation of the results. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Online streaming feature selection(OSFS),as an online learning manner to handle streaming features,is critical in addressing high-dimensional *** real big data-related applications,the patterns and distributions of streaming features constantly change over time due to dynamic data generation ***,existing OSFS methods rely on presented and fixed hyperparameters,which undoubtedly lead to poor selection performance when encountering dynamic *** make up for the existing shortcomings,the authors propose a novel OSFS algorithm based on vague set,named *** main idea is to combine uncertainty and three-way decision theories to improve feature selection from the traditional dichotomous method to the trichotomous ***-Vague also improves the calculation method of correlation between features and ***,OSFS-Vague uses the distance correlation coefficient to classify streaming features into relevant features,weakly redundant features,and redundant ***,the relevant features and weakly redundant features are filtered for an optimal feature *** evaluate the proposed OSFS-Vague,extensive empirical experiments have been conducted on 11 *** results demonstrate that OSFS-Vague outperforms six state-of-the-art OSFS algorithms in terms of selection accuracy and computational efficiency.
