This Work-in-Progress paper presents WebTA, a code critiquer developed using Java, currently being expanded to MATLAB for first-year engineering students. It outlines the modification process of the existing WebTA software for MATLAB and shares the results of three beta tests conducted with 52 students. The paper highlights the significance of providing an automated tool that helps students identify and improve coding errors is highlighted (addressing the gap between computer science and engineering education). WebTA's feedback-on-demand feature addresses the challenge of providing timely and personalized feedback to a large number of students, contributing to the enhancement of first-year engineering education. © 2023 IEEE.

Measurement of peripheral nerve magnetostimulation thresholds of a head solenoid coil between 200 Hz and 88.1 kHz

Objective: Magnetic fields switching at kilohertz frequencies induce electric fields in the body, which can cause peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS). Although magnetostimulation has been extensively studied below 10 kHz, the behavior of PNS at higher frequencies remains poorly understood. This study aims to investigate PNS thresholds at frequencies up to 88.1 kHz and to explore deviations from the widely accepted hyperbolic strength-duration curve (SDC). Methods and procedures: PNS thresholds were measured in the head of 8 human volunteers using a solenoidal coil at 16 distinct frequencies, ranging from 200 Hz to 88.1 kHz. A hyperbolic SDC was used as a reference to compare the frequency-dependent behavior of PNS thresholds. Results: Contrary to the predictions of the hyperbolic SDC, PNS thresholds did not decrease monotonically with frequency. Instead, thresholds reached a minimum near 25 kHz, after which they increased by an average of 39% from 25 kHz to 88.1 kHz across subjects. This pattern indicates a significant deviation from previously observed behavior at lower frequencies. Conclusion: Our results suggest that PNS thresholds exhibit a non-monotonic frequency dependence at higher frequencies, diverging from the traditional hyperbolic SDC. These findings offer critical data for refining neurodynamic models and provide insights for setting PNS safety limits in applications like MRI gradient coils and magnetic particle imaging (MPI). Further investigation is needed to understand the biological mechanisms driving these deviations beyond 25 kHz. Clinical impact: These findings call for further basic research into biological mechanisms underlying high frequency PNS threshold trends, and supports refinement of safety guidelines for MRI and MPI systems for clinical implementation. © 2013 IEEE.

Environmental awareness has recently emerged as one of the most crucial topics. As a result, various groups advocate for these technologies and research ways to promote their usage in various contexts. This study examines the factors influencing the intention and use of green technology among academics. This study integrates Price Value (PV) and Consideration of future consequence (CFC) to Theory Planned Behavior (TPB) as a theoretical basis. Two hundred five valid replies were gathered and processed through statistical analysis. The results of this study partly support the developed hypotheses. Four hypotheses developed from TPB have presented significant relationships. However, PV and CFC were not. The findings indicate that individuals in this study did not consider CFC or PV of green IT products as critical factors in their decision-making process. Findings also suggest that for implementation success, competent parties must consider the campaign to increase individual awareness and provide financial support regarding environmental policy. © 2023 IEEE.

Today globally people designed different systems based on Internet of Things (IoT) principles and made human with smart living. In this article, an important application is proposed for our daily usage and is named as Smart Garbage Monitoring and Disposal Support System (SGMDSS). Since the advent of mobile communication and the spread of the Internet anywhere and anytime, there is a lot of scopes to control the devices from remote places. Solid garbage is one of the prior concerns today globally because improper execution of garbage removal from the villages, towns, and cities affects the people living there and it is the ultimate cause for new diseases. So, proper garbage management by using technology is a major concern of the hour. In the traditional existing system, the monitoring and disposal of garbage are done by humans and it is cumbersome, therefore supporting the traditional system with the flavor of IoT, then monitoring of garbage bins will be easy. This helps the people who are involved in the traditional garbage collection system and it will be the best feasible solution. The SGMDSS is a very innovative information management control system that helps the metros, cities, and villages hygiene and clean with a better garbage disposal. This system uses an advanced approach in which waste monitoring and disposal support are automated. SGMDSS monitors the garbage bins located at different locations and notifies about the level of garbage accumulated in the garbage bins through an android mobile application to the cleaning personnel for disposal and provides the shortest path to the garbage bin location that is almost filled. This information is also sent to the webpage and the entire data is stored and accessed through the cloud. Also, an alert message is sent to the worker. © 2021 IEEE.

Large language models (LLMs) have played a pivotal role in building communicative AI, yet they encounter the challenge of efficient updates. Model editing enables the manipulation of specific knowledge memories and the behavior of language generation without retraining. However, the robustness of model editing remains an open question. This work seeks to understand the strengths and limitations of editing methods, facilitating practical applications of communicative AI. We focus on three key research questions. RQ1: Can edited LLMs behave consistently resembling communicative AI in realistic situations? RQ2: To what extent does the rephrasing of prompts lead LLMs to deviate from the edited knowledge memory? RQ3: Which knowledge features are correlated with the performance and robustness of editing? Our empirical studies uncover a substantial disparity between existing editing methods and the practical application of LLMs. On rephrased prompts that are flexible but common in realistic applications, the performance of editing experiences a significant decline. Further analysis shows that more popular knowledge is memorized better, easier to recall, and more challenging to edit effectively. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Electrical stimulation is a powerful tool for targeted neurorehabilitation, and recent work in adaptive stimulation where stimulation can be adjusted in real-time has shown promise in improving stimulation outcomes and reducing stimulation-induced side effects. Mapping the relationship between electrical stimulation input and neural activity response can help reveal their interactions and can give us tools to iterate and improve on our stimulation protocols. Here, we introduce methods for identifying low-dimensional subspaces of human intracortical responses to electrical stimulation in invasive electroencephalography. In epilepsy patients (n=4) undergoing clinical monitoring, we applied a stimulation protocol of varying amplitude and frequency in 5-second intervals to capture a range of responses to different stimulation conditions. We characterized these responses using time-frequency spectral power, applied baseline subtraction and outlier removal procedures, and performed principal component analysis across frequencies. We identified that intracortical responses to different stimulation conditions can be represented in a 3-dimensional subspace, accounting for more than 95% of the variance. Using support vector machine classification, we demonstrated separability of intracortical responses in different stimulation conditions across subjects, where this separability was contingent on applying baseline subtraction and outlier removal. Our results represent a first step towards building a predictive model of neural response from stimulation input, an important prerequisite for adaptive closed-loop stimulation for targeted neurorehabilitation. © 2022 IEEE.

Continuous speaker separation aims to separate overlapping speakers in real-world environments like meetings, but it often falls short in isolating speech segments of a single speaker. This leads to split signals that adversely affect downstream applications such as automatic speech recognition and speaker diarization. Existing solutions like speaker counting have limitations. This paper presents a novel multi-channel approach for continuous speaker separation based on multi-input multi-output (MIMO) complex spectral mapping. This MIMO approach enables robust speaker localization by preserving inter-channel phase relations. Speaker localization as a byproduct of the MIMO separation model is then used to identify single-talker frames and reduce speaker splitting. We demonstrate that this approach achieves superior frame-level sound localization. Systematic experiments on the LibriCSS dataset further show that the proposed approach outperforms other methods, advancing state-of-the-art speaker separation performance.

The rapid advancement of AI has led to the rise of Audio Deepfakes (AD), which pose serious ethical and security concerns by accurately mimicking human speech. This research addresses the urgent need for effective AD detection, with a focus on gender bias that can reduce the effectiveness of detection models. We examined how gender affects the performance of both Machine Learning (Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, Logistic Regression, XGBoost) and Deep Learning (Deep Neural Networks, Convolutional Neural Networks) models using the GBAD dataset. Our findings show that models trained on female audio outperform those trained on male audio, likely due to the expressive nature of female voice features and high-pitched artifacts in FAKE audio. This highlights the need for more robust, gender-sensitive detection systems. Future work should focus on developing adaptive models to reduce gender bias, improving security, and creating lightweight models for wider public use.

Segmentation plays a crucial role in computer-aided medical image diagnosis, as it enables the models to focus on the region of interest (ROI) and improve classification performance. However, medical image datasets often lack segmentation masks due to cost. In this work, we have introduced a novel end-to-end pipeline that enhances classification by incorporating ROIs generated by a weakly supervised method as an auxiliary task in a deep multitask learning framework. We have demonstrated that our approach outperforms conventional methods that only rely on classification. By using weakly supervised segmentation, we are able to leverage pixel-wise information, which ultimately leads to improved classification performance. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Capital market transactions provide an opportunity for investors to acquire ownership of company shares and capital gains, as well as dividends. However, alongside the benefits, there are risks of capital loss and liquidation, leading to stress and depression due to profit targets and decision-making errors. To mitigate the risk of decision-making errors in investment, data analysis is needed, including sentiment analysis, which influences stock prices. This study aims to develop a new deep learning model to classify Indonesian public opinion on JCI stocks, especially the Energy sector, obtained from the Twitter social media platform. The model will perform sentiment analysis and categorize opinions as negative, neutral, or positive. We created a dataset that was trained using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) to summarize the analysis of public sentiment above so that it can assist investors in studying public sentiment as a reference for investing with a yield precision of 76%, Recall of 77%, and F1-score on 76%.
