Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown the impressive capability of answering questions in a wide range of scenarios. However, when LLMs face different types of questions, it is worth exploring whether LLMs are aware that some questions have limited answers and need to respond more deterministically but some do not. We refer to this as question awareness of LLMs. The lack of question awareness in LLMs leads to two phenomena that LLMs are: (1) too casual to answer non-open-ended questions or (2) too boring to answer open-ended questions. In this paper, we first evaluate the question awareness in LLMs. The experimental results show that LLMs have the issues of lacking awareness of questions in certain domains, e.g. factual knowledge, resulting in hallucinations during the generation. To mitigate these, we propose a method called Question Awareness Temperature Sampling (QuATS). This method enhances the question awareness of LLMs by adaptively adjusting the output distributions based on question features. The automatic adjustment in QuATS eliminates the need for manual temperature tuning in text generation and consistently improves model performance in various benchmarks. This research article presents a modified isolated SEPIC converter suitable for high-power applications. It uses a transformer instead of coupled inductor for isolation between the input power source and the output load. The steady-state analysis is explained in detail. Thermal loss analysis is performed by using PLECS software. Further, a hardware prototype is developed to verify the performance aspects of the proposed converter.

This research was to study the effect of the environment condition during image captured including temperature and relative humidity in the packaging house of the mango exporting factory and in the orchard on the emissivity of mango fruit. The result showed that in the controlled environment of the packaging house in factory, the emissivity was increased (the mango emitted more energy) when the surface temperature was lower and the emissivity of mango is 0.71-0.84 and in the uncontrolled environment of open-air packaging yard in the mango orchard, the different transpiration rates of mango effected mainly by ambient temperature and relative humidity make the morning condition emissivity of 0.44-0.66 and the afternoon condition of 0.72-0.98. There was the effect of the different measured positions on the fruits where the physiology was different and the fluctuated environment in the latter condition made the wide range of emissivity of mangoes. This indicated the shortcoming of thermal imaging of horticultural product if the correct emissivity varied and difficult to set in the thermal camera setting, hence the inaccurate thermogram to be obtained. © 2024 IEEE.

Multi-Turn Dialogue Comprehension from a Topic-Aware Perspective

Dialogue Machine Reading Comprehension requires language models to effectively decouple and model multi-turn dialogue passages. As a dialogue development goes after the intentions of participants, its topic may not remain constant throughout the whole passage. Hence, it is non-trivial to detect and leverage the topic shift in dialogue modeling. Topic modeling, although has been widely studied in plain text, deserves far more utilization in dialogue reading comprehension. This paper proposes to model multi-turn dialogues from a topic-aware perspective. We start with a dialogue segmentation algorithm to split a dialogue passage into topic-concentrated fragments in an unsupervised way. Then we use these fragments as topic-aware language processing units in further dialogue comprehension. On one hand, the split segments indict specific topics rather than mixed intentions, thus showing convenience on in-domain topic detection and location. For this task, we design a clustering system with a self-training auto-encoder, and we build two constructed datasets for evaluation. On the other hand, the split segments are an appropriate element of multi-turn dialogue response selection. For this purpose, we further present a novel model, Topic-Aware Dual-Attention Matching (TADAM) Network, which takes topic segments as processing elements and matches response candidates with a dual cross-attention. Empirical studies on three public benchmarks show great improvements over baselines. Our work continues the previous studies on document topic, and brings the dialogue modeling to a novel topic-aware perspective with exhaustive experiments and analyses. © 2023, The Authors. Modular Self-Lock Origami: design, modeling, and simulation to improve the performance of a rotational joint

Origami structures have been widely explored in robotics due to their many potential advantages. Origami robots can be very compact, as well as cheap and efficient to produce. In particular, they can be constructed in a flat format using modern manufacturing techniques. Rotational motion is essential for robotics, and a variety of origami rotational joints have been proposed in the literature. However, few of these are even approximately flat-foldable. One potential enabler of flat origami rotational joints is the inclusion of lightweight pneumatic pouches which actuate the origami’s folds;however, pouch actuators only enable a relatively small amount of rotational displacement. The previously proposed Four-Vertex Origami is a flat-foldable structure which provides an angular multiplier for a pouch actuator, but suffers from a degenerate state. This paper presents a novel rigid origami, the Self-Lock Origami, which eliminates this degeneracy by slightly relaxing the assumption of flat-foldability. This joint is analysed in terms of a trade-off between the angular multiplier and the mechanical advantage. Furthermore, the Self-Lock Origami is a modular joint which can be connected to similar or different joints to produce complex movements for various applications;three different manipulator designs are introduced as a proof of concept. Finding multiple temporal relationships among locations can benefit a bunch of urban applications, such as dynamic offline advertising and smart public transport planning. While some efforts have been made on finding static relationships among locations, little attention is focused on studying time-aware location relationships. Indeed, abundant location-based human activities are time-varying and the availability of these data enables a new paradigm for understanding the dynamic relationships in a period among connective locations. To this end, we propose to study a new problem, namely multi-Temporal relationship inference among locations (Trial for short), where the major challenge is how to integrate dynamic and geographical influence under the relationship sparsity constraint. Specifically, we propose a solution to Trial with a graph learning scheme, which includes a spatially evolving graph neural network (SEENet) with two collaborative components: spatially evolving graph convolution module (SEConv) and spatially evolving self-supervised learning strategy (SE-SSL). SEConv performs the intra-time aggregation and inter-time propagation to capture the multifaceted spatially evolving contexts from the view of location message passing. The increasing use of IoT devices on future networks is very helpful for humans in their lives. However, the increase in devices connected to IoT networks also increases the potential for attacks against those networks. Vulnerabilities in Internet of Things (IoT) networks can be exposed at any time. Artificial intelligence can be used to protect the IoT network by being able to detect attacks on the network so that they can be prevented. In this study, network detection was carried out using the Deep Neural Network (DNN) algorithm. The test was carried out using the UNSW Bot-IoT dataset with a comparison of training data of 75% of the overall data. The results obtained show the ability of the algorithm to detect attacks on average with 99.999% accuracy. The validation loss and training loss look very small. In this study, there is a validation loss that still occurs in overfitting, but the difference is very small. © 2022 IEEE.

This study investigated the electrical properties of AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) with varied recess depths under the gate electrode. We demonstrated a recess depth of approximately 6 nm, which was achieved through neutral beam etching (NBE) technique with a low etch rate of 1.8 nm/min, resulting in device enhancement-mode (E-mode) behavior with threshold voltage (Vth) of 0.49 V. The effects of post-metallization annealing (PMA) on the device performance were also examined. The results revealed that PMA treatment improves the DC characteristics of the devices, including maximum drain current (IDMAX), transconductance (gm), subthreshold swing (SS), on-off ratio, and off-state leakage current, with maximum enhancement percentage of 18.3% for IDMAX, 3758% for on-off ratio, and 54.3% for SS. Moreover, this study compared the recess depths of metal-insulator-semiconductor high-electron-mobility transistors (MIS-HEMTs) with the SiN dielectric layer. The results showed that MIS-HEMTs exhibit more negative Vth values, which can be attributed to the controlled surface states achieved through passivation. © 2020 IEEE.

A diachronic evaluation of gender asymmetry in euphemism

The use of euphemisms is a known driver of language change. It has been proposed that women use euphemisms more than men. Although there have been several studies investigating gender differences in language, the claim about euphemism usage has not been tested comprehensively through time. If women do use euphemisms more, this could mean that women also lead the formation of new euphemisms and language change over time. Using four large diachronic text corpora of English, we evaluate the claim that women use euphemisms more than men through a quantitative analysis. We assembled a list of 106 euphemism-taboo pairs to analyze their relative use through time by each gender in the corpora. Contrary to the existing belief, our results show that women do not use euphemisms with a higher proportion than men. We repeated the analysis using different subsets of the euphemism-taboo pairs list and found that our result was robust. Our study indicates that in a broad range of settings involving both speech and writing, and with varying degrees of formality, women do not use or form euphemisms more than men. © 2021, CC BY.

Implementation Graph Database Framework for Credit Card Fraud Detection

Credit card use is becoming more and more commonplace every day. Financial organizations and credit card customers lose a lot of money because of complicated illegal transactions. Fraudsters constantly stay on top of new technology to quickly perpetrate fraud against customer transaction patterns. We analyze credit card transaction networks and identify suspicious patterns, such as transactions connected to multiple accounts or unusual transaction patterns, transactions made at unusual times, and to monitor credit card transactions in real-time and quickly identify suspicious transactions. TigerGraph is used to analyze data, display results on a dashboard, and send notifications via email. One meth’\ Vc 1``13-od commonly used in anomaly detection is to compare data values against the standard deviation. In this research, we explain the use of TigerGraph as a platform for anomaly detection above the standard deviation, as well as the use of the Louvain algorithm in finding merchant communities used by fraudsters. The data used in this study comes from Sparkov simulation data obtained from Kaggle. Our results show that by using TigerGraph, we managed to achieve a very high accuracy rate of 99.77%, precision 82.84%, recall 72.38%, and f1-score 77,26% in predicting transaction fraud on Sparkov simulation data. This is much better than the results reported in a paper that uses the supervised machine learning method with the AdaBoost algorithm which achieves the highest accuracy of 77%.
