A Novel Deep Learning Approach Toward Efficient and Accurate Recommendation Using Improved Alternating Least Squares in Social Media

The increasing number of electronic transactions on the Internet has given rise to the design of recommendation systems. The main objective of these systems is to give recommendations to the users about the items (i.e., movies, music, books, etc.) they are likely to purchase in near future. These recommendations are on the foundation of the response provided by the other individuals about these products in the terms of ratings, which are in the form of a five-star rating system. Plenty of algorithms have been proposed in the past for building recommender systems. The most popular of these algorithms comprise content-centered and collaborative filtering recommendation methodologies. Recently, matrix factorization has appeared as a technique in recommender systems. Several algorithms centered on matrix factorization have been suggested in the recent past. In this paper, an improved alternating least squares algorithm has been proposed for building more efficient and accurate recommender systems which improves the performance of matrix factorization. The performance of the model has been evaluated using metrics like root-mean-square-error and execution time. However, in general, the time complexity of both algorithms is O(n^3), where n is the number of users or items. This is because both IALS and ALS involve iteratively solving a system of linear equations, and the time complexity of solving a system of linear equations is O(n^3). However, IALS can achieve significant performance improvements over ALS, particularly for large datasets, due to its incorporation of stochastic gradient descent and parallelization techniques. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.

DSANet: dilated spatial attention network for the detection of text, non-text and touching components in unconstrained handwritten documents

Handwritten documents generated in our day-to-day office work, class room and other sectors of society carry vital information. Automatic processing of these documents is a pipeline of many challenging steps. The very first and crucial step is to identify text separately from the non-text as any OCR (optical character recognition) engine can only process the textual content. Separating text from non-text in unconstrained handwritten documents is a very complex task. In addition to other challenges, touching component is one of the major issues for text non-text separation in unconstrained handwritten documents. Detection of text, non-text along with touching component in such documents is an unexplored area of research. To address this issue, in this work, we develop a dilated spatial attention-based network for text, non-text and touching component detection. Additionally, in this work, we also prepare a realistic dataset for the said task. In the proposed dataset, the present model obtains overall accuracy of 87.85%. The performance of the present model is compared with seven feature-engineering-based methods and six deep learning-based methods. In most of the cases, the proposed model outperforms the comparing methods in the proposed dataset. OSSIoT: An ontology-based Operational Security model for Social Internet of Things using Machine Learning Techniques

The Social Internet of Things (SIoT) is an innovative fusion of IoT and smart devices that enable them to establish dynamic relationships. Securing sensitive data in a smart environment requires a model to determine the relationships between devices through object profiling and ontological models. To address this need, we have proposed an ontology-based operational security model for the SIoT. In our approach, the interpolation method is used to establish relationships, while fiduciary relationships are employed to detect threats. Furthermore, the encryption of heterogeneous device data, coupled with the implementation of an operation-based intrusion detection system, proves highly effective in identifying potential *** relationships are identified as intruders and validated using machine learning techniques. Encrypting heterogeneous device data, along with an operation-based intrusion detection system, efficiently identifies threats in the ever-evolving dynamic nature of the SIoT environment. the encryption of heterogeneous device data, coupled with an operation-based intrusion detection system, effectively identifies threats. Invalid relationships are promptly identified as attackers and machine learning techniques are used to validate relationships encryption and machine learning stand as indispensable tools in the endeavor to secure sensitive information within the realm of the SIoT. The suggested model outperformed the results of the current model, as evidenced by its average accuracy of 85.67%, precision of 90.37%, recall of 92.06%, and F1-score of 91.03% when compared to the existing model. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). A Post-Stroke Rehabilitation System With Compensatory Movement Detection Using Virtual Reality and Electroencephalogram Technologies

Stroke is a leading cause of global population mortality and disability, imposing burdens on patients and caregivers, and significantly affecting the quality of life of patients. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to explore the application of virtual reality technology in physical therapy by using immersive interactive training and designing rehabilitation modes for individual and group settings. We also aimed to provide patients with stroke with a comprehensive home-based rehabilitation and treatment plan, ultimately enhancing training effectiveness. Patients can engage in home-based rehabilitation through this system and undergo functional, mirror, and constraint-induced therapies tailored to different task contents. Simultaneously, using brain-computer interface technology, an emotion analysis mechanism was designed to map the patients' brainwave signal data onto a two-dimensional space of positive-negative valence arousal;this approach can enable remote physical therapists to discern the patients' emotional states during the rehabilitation process through virtual spaces, facilitating timely adjustments to rehabilitation tasks. Moreover, to prevent compromised effectiveness owing to improper training postures leading to compensation, the system offers real-time identification and recording, promptly issuing alerts when compensation occurs. The system provides a multiuser virtual rehabilitation space, enabling timely corrections and data observations, offering patients with stroke a home-based rehabilitation program, thereby realizing a localized aging care model. © 2013 IEEE.

An Experimental Study on Dynamic Lifelong Learning with GPT for Mitigating Catastrophic Forgetting in Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis

GPT is widely recognized as one of the most versatile and powerful large language models, excelling across diverse domains. However, its significant computational demands often render it economically unfeasible for individuals and small businesses, underscoring the need for efficient, domain-specific alternatives. In Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA), existing models are typically optimized for single domains, facing challenges in performing effectively across multiple domains. A key issue, known as "catastrophic forgetting,"arises when models trained on one domain lose previously learned knowledge upon exposure to new domain data. This leads to two significant problems: limited cross-domain generalization and difficulty in retaining prior knowledge while learning domain-specific information. To address these challenges, we introduce the Dynamic Lifelong Learning Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis GPT (DllaGPT), a model designed to handle multiple domains while mitigating catastrophic forgetting. Leveraging datasets from four ABSA domains - Laptops, Restaurants, Tweets, and Finance - this study fine-tunes a pretrained GPT model from HuggingFace sequentially across domains. DllaGPT employs a mechanism to retain real data from earlier domains during new domain training, effectively preserving prior knowledge. Experimental results highlight that DllaGPT achieves an average accuracy of 0.85 and a Backward Transfer (BWT) score of -0.09 across the four domains, showcasing its high accuracy and robust lifelong learning capabilities. © 2013 IEEE.

REGAC: Multi-Class Offensive Content Identification Using Graphical Approach

Online offensive behaviour continues to rise with the increasing popularity and use of social media. Various techniques have been used to address this issue. However, most existing studies consider offensive content identification as a binary or ternary problem, disregarding the potential for multi-class classification of derogatory content. In this work, we propose RoBERTa Embedding-based Graphical Approach Classifier (REGAC), which aims to designate the identified offensive content into varied classes,like age, gender, ethnicity, religion, and others to understand what exact qualities the bully usually targets in their victim so that pertinent measures can be taken to battle them. Additionally, the models’ efficiency is evaluated using an unbalanced dataset to identify types of offensive content. The word embeddings are generated for a balanced dataset using RoBERTa embedding model to bring out the best-fitting vectors. These vectors are then input into traditional Machine Learning algorithms (SVM, KNN, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and XGBoost) and graph-based algorithms (Graph Convolution Network (GCN), GraphSAGE, and Graph Attention Network (GAT)) for fine-grained categorization of offensive textual content. The experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of combating social media’s offensive content of the proposed work with higher Precision, Recall, F1-Score, and Accuracy compared with most state-of-art approaches. © (2025.0), (International Association of Engineers). An aspect-based sentiment analysis model for Arabic game reviews based on hybrid transformers models

Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) is a natural language processing (NLP) technique to determine the various sentiments of a customer in a single comment regarding different aspects. The increasing online data content generated by interested customers and reviewers motivated researchers and data scientists to conduct ABSA. ABSA has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its versatility in e-commerce, social media, and customer feedback analysis. However, ABSA faces several significant challenges, including determining the aspects and their sentiment polarities (positive, negative, or neutral) in a given text. Moreover, ABSA faces particular challenges in non-English languages such as Arabic due to the lack of resources and mature models. Typically, ABSA tackles one or more of the ABSA research tasks: (T1) aspect term extraction, (T2) aspect term polarity, (T3) aspect category identification, and (T4) aspect category polarity. To identify the aspects and their corresponding sentiment polarities in a given text, accurate and efficient NLP techniques are required. Despite growing interest in Arabic ABSA, the lack of annotated datasets and pre-trained models has hindered its development. In this research, we have collected a dataset of Arabic game reviews and annotated them using three annotators, and then we trained an ABSA deep learning model based on the BERT pre-trained model combined with zero-shot learning (ZSL) to tackle all the four aforementioned tasks. Our best performing model achieved a high accuracy on all four tasks with an accuracy of 91.61% on T1, 90.99% on T2, 79.08% on T3, and 88.17% on T4. Finally, we compared our model’s accuracy with the state-of-the-art Arabic-based ABSA models on different datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Authorization of Aadhar data using Diffie Helman key with enhanced security concerns

In today’s digital era, the security of sensitive data such as Aadhaar data is of utmost importance. To ensure the privacy and integrity of this data, a conceptual framework is proposed that employs the Diffie-Hellman key exchange protocol and Hash-based Message Authentication Code (HMAC) to enhance the security. The proposed system begins with the preprocessing phase, which includes removing noise, standardizing formats and validating the integrity of the data. Next, the data is segmented into appropriate sections to enable efficient storage and retrieval in the cloud. Each segment is further processed to extract meaningful features, ensuring that the relevant information is preserved while reducing the risk of unauthorized access. For safeguarding the stored Aadhaar data, the system employs the Diffie-Hellman key exchange protocol which allows the data owner and the cloud service provider to establish a shared secret key without exposing it to potential attackers. Additionally, HMAC is implemented to verify the identity of users during the login process. HMAC enhances security by leveraging cryptographic hash functions and a shared secret key to produce a distinct code for each login attempt. This mechanism effectively protects the confidentiality and integrity of stored data. The combination of Diffie-Hellman key exchange and HMAC authentication provides a robust security framework for Aadhaar data. It ensures that the data remains encrypted and inaccessible without the secret key, while also verifying the identity of users during the login process. This comprehensive approach helps preventing unauthorized access thereby protecting against potential attacks, instilling trust and confidence in the security of Aadhaar data stored in the cloud. Results of the article depict that the proposed scheme achieve 0.19 s of encryption time and 0.05 s of decryption time. © 2024 – IOS Press. All rights reserved.

mLBOA-DML: modified butterfly optimized deep metric learning for enhancing accuracy in intrusion detection system

Intrusion detection is a prominent factor in the cybersecurity domain that prevents the network from malicious attacks. Cloud security is not satisfactory for securing the user’s information because it is based on standard protocols. Hence, cloud users cannot fully trust the security offered by cloud service providers. The state-of-the-art techniques create clusters for classes and manually label the unknown classes to detect novel attacks. This notion binds the network traffic associated with each attack together and drifts the similarity between the same attacks. These techniques are often prone to errors and degrade performance. To overcome this drawback, various researchers have developed different intrusion detection system which relies on specific attack patterns to distinguish between normal and abnormal behavior. This paper presents a modified Lagrange interpolated Butterfly optimization algorithm-based deep metric learning (mLBOA-DML) architecture for intrusion detection to detect both host-based and network attacks. DML architecture parameters are optimized utilizing mLBOA algorithm via its global optimization capability for increasing the accuracy of attack prediction. DML algorithm does both feature extraction and classification processes. When evaluated using the UNSW-NB15 and NSL-KDD datasets, the proposed model offers improved accuracy near 99% for both datasets. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
