The alarming rise of fake news on social media poses a significant threat to public discourse and decision-making. While automatic detection of fake news offers a promising solution, research in low-resource languages like Malayalam often falls behind due to limited data and tools. This paper presents the participation of team Punny_Punctuators in the Fake News Detection in Dravidian Languages shared task at DravidianLangTech@EACL 2024, addressing this gap. The shared task focuses on two subtasks: 1. classifying social media texts as original or fake, and 2. categorizing fake news into 5 categories. We experimented with various machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL) and transformer-based models as well as processing techniques such as transliteration. Malayalam-BERT achieved the best performance on both sub-tasks, which obtained us 2nd place with a macro f1-score of 0.87 for the subtask-1 and 11th place with a macro f1-score of 0.17 for the subtask-2. Our results highlight the potential of transformer models for low-resource languages in fake news detection and pave the way for further research in this crucial area. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

There is no established metric for measuring urban smartness at this time. Various writers use various metrics to assess smart city transportation systems. The assessment indicators for the transport system that were offered in the scholarly works were reviewed, and the most relevant and impactful indicators were chosen. A hierarchical assessment model for smart city transport systems is developed in this paper. There are five categories, or "factors,"that the indications fall into. Several indicators are assigned to each of the categories. This study used the hybrid MCDM (multi-criteria decision-making) method to evaluate urban transport systems and identify which of the given characteristics were most important. Top Priority Sorting based on Ideal Solution Similarity (TOPSIS), COPRAS, and Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) were the multi-criteria assessment methods in use. The importance of the components and indicators was determined using an analytical hierarchy process (AHP), rankings (prioritization), and direct evaluation (experts evaluate each criterion as a percentage;total assessments of all criteria equal 100%). There were two phases to the evaluation and comparison of mobility systems: first, smart mobility systems were evaluated comprehensively according to the integrated importance of the indicators;and second, multi-criteria evaluations were conducted according to the indicators of every factor separately. Based on the amount of intelligence, a top city is determined and rated. Building a hierarchical model for evaluating smart transportation systems is the focus of this paper. © 2024 IEEE.

Long-term care refers to any support, both medical and non-medical, provided to the elderly with a chronic illness or disability due to physical or mental conditions. Since the cost of long-term care insurance is not inexpensive, low-cost devices and sensors can be used to create medical assistance systems to reduce human maintenance costs. The requirement of security and privacy under healthcare information protection is a critical issue for internet of medical things (IoMT) data transmission. In this paper, we designed an IoMT security robot for a long-term care system. The goal of this IoMT security robot is to provide secure transmission of the residents’ private information. It is composed of three layers, namely, collection, encryption, and transmission. The function of the IoMT security robot is to first collect data from the patient or the elderly, then provide efficient data encryption, and deliver secured data transmission mechanisms to send the valuable data to the cloud. This IoMT security robot also has a server authentication mechanism, and a support IoT and IoMT devices inspection function. Our evaluation results showed that even when we utilized a low power consumption device like Raspberry Pi, AES algorithm achieved an encrypt and decrypt of 100–100 K bytes under 9 ms, which is a lot better than ECC, which takes about 104 ms. Further, we found that the AES only takes 0.00015 s to decrypt 100 Bytes data, which is way faster than the ECC algorithm, which takes 0.09 s. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

This paper introduces a new approach to switch authentication within a network environment, addressing the challenges associated with multiple switch configurations. The proposed continuous authentication process is seamlessly integrated into the TCP handshake, leveraging public-private key encryption and challenge-based authentication methodologies. This novel solution aims to improve performance of traditional one-to-one authentication methods, both in terms of efficiency and security. The research demonstrates the efficiency gains achieved by the proposed authentication process through a comparative analysis with one-to-one solution based on the same authentication mechanism. The results reveal a significant reduction in authentication time, thanks to link latency reduction. The incorporation of public-private key encryption enhances the security, ensuring protection against unauthorized access and switch spoofing attempts. © 2024 IEEE.

The growth in Internet audio data has highlighted the need for accurate and efficient search methodologies. In this context, query-by-example spoken term detection (QbE-STD) plays a pivotal role, mainly when dealing with multilingual datasets lacking proper transcription information. Recent advancements in the field include integrating convolutional neural networks (CNN) as classifiers, emphasizing the computation of matching matrices for accurate term detection. This research conducts a comparative analysis of similarity measures for QbE-STD, aiming to highlight the performance differences across different metrics. The results reveal distinctive patterns in accuracy, with kernel-based measures leading the pack. Distance-based measures demonstrate comparable accuracies, albeit slightly lower than other metrics, while DTW yields the lowest accuracy. The implications of these findings extend to optimizing QbE-STD systems, guiding practitioners in selecting suitable similarity measures based on their specific requirements. The study contributes valuable insights to spoken term detection, paving the way for enhanced methodologies in audio search applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The dialects of a language hold a significant place in speech processing (SP) applications. The objective of dialect identification is to categorize speech sample data into a specific dialect of a speaker's spoken language. A dialect recognition system must effectively distinguish between different dialects of a standard language, as they tend to possess many similarities. The dialect of a language is not a distinct characteristic, as it can be impacted by the utterer's birthplace. Researchers in the domain of automatic speech recognition (ASR) face difficulties in identifying the speech patterns unique to each dialect or language. The proposed work recognizes the dialects of the Bagri Rajasthani language from undefined expressions of speech. Rajasthani language is one of the eldest and most famous languages in the Indo-Aryan languages. It comprises the different dialects and for recognizing the dialects, it used dissimilar phases of acoustic and spectral characteristics of the speech signal (SS). The spectral and acoustic features of SSs are measured to design the system. As there is no specific speech dataset for Bagri dialects, the database is built, to verify the Bagri dialects of the Rajasthani language. To improve the accuracy rate, and error rate in recognizing the Bagri dialects, the acoustic and spectral characteristics of speech expressions are joined. To verify several Bagri dialects of the Rajasthani language, different simulations for classification and investigation are carried out i.e., OFSCNN model, GA-NN, etc. The outcomes are important and the accuracy of 96.95% for the OFSCNN model, 80.63% for GA-NN, and 93.45% for the SVM method is an achievement. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Hate and offensive language in online platforms pose significant challenges, necessitating automatic detection methods. Particularly in the case of codemixed text, which is very common in social media, the complexity of this problem increases due to the cultural nuances of different languages. DravidianLangTechEACL2024 organized a shared task on detecting hate and offensive language for Telugu. To complete this task, this study investigates the effectiveness of transliteration-augmented datasets for Telugu code-mixed text. In this work, we compare the performance of various machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and transformer-based models on both original and augmented datasets. Experimental findings demonstrate the superiority of transformer models, particularly Telugu-BERT, achieving the highest f1-score of 0.77 on the augmented dataset, ranking the 1st position in the leader-board. The study highlights the potential of transliteration-augmented datasets in improving model performance and suggests further exploration of diverse transliteration options to address real-world scenarios. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Effective waste management and pollution control are paramount for sustainable environmental stewardship. This study presents a comprehensive approach leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as YOLO object recognition, Faster R-CNN, and SVM-based AQI computation. The system integrates YOLOv7 for real-time rubbish classification, facilitating swift and precise trash sorting and disposal decisions. Additionally, it employs Faster R-CNN for fog density analysis, enabling thorough estimations of air pollution levels. To calculate the Air Quality Index (AQI), support vector machine (SVM) algorithms combine various air quality indicators, ensuring thorough and accurate assessments. Enhanced trash classification capabilities enable more accurate evaluation of the environmental impacts of waste management systems. By integrating fog density monitoring with AQI calculation, the approach offers comprehensive trend analysis of pollution, aiding in the formulation of data-driven environmental policies and effective pollution management measures. Furthermore, the system evaluates soil quality, complementing its waste management and pollution control functions. Despite its advancements, the system faces challenges in real-world implementation, including data acquisition, model training, and system integration. Addressing these challenges is critical for realizing the full potential of integrated waste management and pollution control systems. © 2024 IEEE.

The agricultural area has undergone a significant transformation owing to the progress made in IoT. It is imperative to have a dependable remote monitoring solution right now. This study aims to accomplish two goals. First, a solution based on an app is offered, which effectively assists in remotely administering the field by displaying the current sensor values. In an Internet of Things based prototype surveillance system, a multi-class categorization method utilizing machine learning and deep learning is incorporated to classify labels such as clear farm, cow, horse, wild boar, and wild elephant. The analysis involved Support Vector Machines and Convolutional Neural Networks, with the accuracy measure being employed to determine the optimal model.
