Dual-Mode Resonant Sectorial Monopole Antenna with Stable Backfire Gain

A novel design approach to wideband, dual-mode resonant monopole antenna with stable, enhanced backfire gain is advanced. The sectorial monopole evolves from a linear, 0.75-wavelength electric prototype monopole under wideband dual-mode resonant operation. As theoretically predicted by the two resonant modes TE3/5,1and TE9/5,1within a 150° radiator, the operation principle is revealed at first. As have been numerically demonstrated and experimentally validated at 2.4-GHz band, the designed antenna exhibits a wide impedance bandwidth over 90.1%（i.e., 2.06–5.44 GHz）, in which the stable gain bandwidth in the backfire,-x-direction（θ = 90°, φ = 180°） with peak value of 3.2 dBi and fluctuation less than 3 dB is up to 45.3%（i.e., 3.74–5.44 GHz）. It is concluded that the stable wideband backfire gain frequency response should be owing to the high-order resonant mode in the unique sectorial monopole antennas.

MMInstruct: a high-quality multi-modal instruction tuning dataset with extensive diversity

Despite the effectiveness of vision-language supervised fine-tuning in enhancing the performance of vision large language models(VLLMs), existing visual instruction tuning datasets include the following limitations.(1) Instruction annotation quality: despite existing VLLMs exhibiting strong performance,instructions generated by those advanced VLLMs may still suffer from inaccuracies, such as hallucinations.(2) Instructions and image diversity: the limited range of instruction types and the lack of diversity in image data may impact the model's ability to generate diversified and closer to real-world scenarios outputs. To address these challenges, we construct a high-quality, diverse visual instruction tuning dataset MMInstruct,which consists of 973k instructions from 24 domains. There are four instruction types: judgment, multiplechoice, long visual question answering, and short visual question answering. To construct MMInstruct, we propose an instruction generation data engine that leverages GPT-4V, GPT-3.5, and manual correction. Our instruction generation engine enables semi-automatic, low-cost, and multi-domain instruction generation at 1/6 the cost of manual construction. Through extensive experiment validation and ablation experiments,we demonstrate that MMInstruct could significantly improve the performance of VLLMs, e.g., the model fine-tuning on MMInstruct achieves new state-of-the-art performance on 10 out of 12 benchmarks. The future sixth-generation(6G) paradigm aims to seamlessly integrate communication and environmental sensing capabilities into a single radio signal, promising improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness through simultaneous data communications and environmental perception. At the core of this evolution, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) and its advanced waveforms emerge as pivotal for integrated sensing and communications(ISAC). This study introduces a concise and unified ISAC waveform design framework based on orthogonal multicarriers. This framework supports versatile applications of OFDM and its derivative waveforms within a generalized ISAC system, marking a significant leap in integrating communication and sensing capabilities. A distinguishing feature of this framework is its adaptability,allowing users to intelligently select modulation strategies based on their specific environmental needs. This adaptability optimizes performance across diverse scenarios. Central to our innovations is the proposal of discrete Fourier transformspread OFDM with index modulation(DFT-S-OFDM-IM). This framework is paired with newly proposed signal processing methods for single-input single-output and multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) systems. Extensive evaluations highlight DFT-S-OFDM-IM's superiority, including dramatically reduced peak-to-average power ratios(PAPRs), competitive communication performance, and exceptional sensing capabilities, striking an elegant balance between communication capacity and environmental sensing precision.

This study presents an overview on intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)-enabled sensing and communication for the forthcoming sixth-generation(6G) wireless networks, in which IRSs are strategically deployed to proactively reconfigure wireless environments to improve both sensing and communication(S&C) performance. First, we exploit a single IRS to enable wireless sensing in the base station's(BS's) non-line-of-sight(NLoS) area. In particular, we present three IRS-enabled NLoS target sensing architectures with fully-passive, semi-passive, and active IRSs, respectively. We compare their pros and cons by analyzing the fundamental sensing performance limits for target detection and parameter estimation. Next, we consider a single IRS to facilitate integrated sensing and communication(ISAC), in which the transmit signals at the BS are used for achieving both S&C functionalities, aided by the IRS through reflective beamforming. We present joint transmit signal and receiver processing designs for realizing efficient ISAC, and jointly optimize the transmit beamforming at the BS and reflective beamforming at the IRS to balance the fundamental performance tradeoff between S&C. Furthermore, we discuss multi-IRS networked ISAC, by particularly focusing on multi-IRS-enabled multi-link ISAC, multi-region ISAC, and ISAC signal routing, respectively. Finally, we highlight various promising research topics in this area to motivate future work.

In this paper, we introduce InternVL 1.5, an open-source multimodal large language model(MLLM) to bridge the capability gap between open-source and proprietary commercial models in multimodal understanding. We introduce three simple improvements.(1) Strong vision encoder: we explored a continuous learning strategy for the large-scale vision foundation model — InternViT-6B, boosting its visual understanding capabilities, and making it can be transferred and reused in different LLMs.(2) Dynamic high-resolution: we divide images into tiles ranging from 1 to 40 of 448×448 pixels according to the aspect ratio and resolution of the input images, which supports up to 4K resolution input.(3) High-quality bilingual dataset: we carefully collected a high-quality bilingual dataset that covers common scenes, document images,and annotated them with English and Chinese question-answer pairs, significantly enhancing performance in optical character recognition(OCR) and Chinese-related tasks. We evaluate InternVL 1.5 through a series of benchmarks and comparative studies. Compared to both open-source and proprietary commercial models, InternVL 1.5 shows competitive performance, achieving state-of-the-art results in 8 of 18 multimodal benchmarks. Using Lock-Free Design for Throughput-Optimized Cache Eviction

In large-scale information systems, storage device performance continues to improve while workloads expand in size and access characteristics. This growth puts tremendous pressure on caches and storage hierarchy in terms of concurrent throughput. However, existing cache eviction policies often struggle to provide adequate concurrent throughput due to their reliance on coarse-grained locking mechanisms and complex data structures. This paper presents a practical approach to cache eviction algorithm design, called Mobius, that optimizes the concurrent throughput of caches and reduces cache operation latency by utilizing lock-free data structures, while maintaining comparable hit ratios. Mobius includes two key designs. First, Mobius employs two lock-free FIFO queues to manage cache items, ensuring that all cache operations are executed efficiently in parallel. Second, Mobius integrates a consecutive detection mechanism that merges multiple modifications during eviction into a single operation, thereby reducing data races. Extensive evaluations using both synthetic and real-world workloads from high-concurrency clusters demonstrate that Mobius achieves a concurrent-throughput improvement ranging from 1.2× to 8.5× over state-of-the-art methods, while also maintaining lower latency and comparable cache hit ratios. The implementation of Mobius in CacheLib and RocksDB highlights its effectiveness in enhancing cache performance in practical scenarios. © 2025 ACM.

Self-Decoupled Square Patch Antenna Arrays by Exciting and Using Mixed Electric/Magnetic Coupling Between Adjacent Radiators

This article presents and develops a simple decoupling method for the planar square patch antenna arrays by virtue of mixed electric and magnetic coupling property. Since the resonant modes of TM10 and TM01 are a pair of degenerate modes in the square patch radiator which are intrinsically orthogonal, a superposed mode of them can be generated to possess consistent field distributions along all the four sides of the patch by adjusting the feeding position. By employing such superposed mode, the mutual coupling between two horizontally adjacent patch elements will become identical to that between two vertical ones, indicating an expected possibility that the complex 2-D decoupling problem in a large-scale antenna patch array can be effectively facilitated and simplified to a 1-D one. Subsequently, metallic pins and connecting strip are properly loaded in each square patch resonator, such that appropriate electric and magnetic coupling strengths can be readily achieved and thus the mutual coupling can get highly decreased. A 1 × 2 antenna array with an edge-to-edge separation of 1 mm, which corresponding to 0.0117λ0, is firstly discussed, simulated, and fabricated. The measured results show that the isolation can be highly improved from 4 dB to 17 dB across the entire passband. In final, 1 × 3, 2 × 2, and 4 × 4 antenna array prototypes are constructed and studied for verification of the expansibility and feasibility of the proposed decoupling method to both linear and 2-D antenna arrays.

Cloud Computing has become a vital component of modern digital infrastructure, offering users remote access to a plethora of online services and resources. Concurrently, the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) has paved the way for increased connectivity among various devices and objects, enabling them to communicate and share data via wireless or wired networks. This review examines the architectures and definitions of these two technologies. Firstly, it reviews the most common references for Cloud Computing and Internet of Thing. Next, it presents the latest research trends for both technologies. Automatic scene generation is an essential area of research with applications in robotics, recreation, visual representation, training and simulation, education, and more. This survey provides a comprehensive review of the current state-of-the-arts in automatic scene generation, focusing on techniques that leverage machine learning, deep learning, embedded systems, and natural language processing (NLP). We categorize the models into four main types: Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Transformers, and Diffusion Models. Each category is explored in detail, discussing various sub-models and their contributions to the field. We also review the most commonly used datasets, such as COCO-Stuff, Visual Genome, and MS-COCO, which are critical for training and evaluating these models. Methodologies for scene generation are examined, including image-to-3D conversion, text-to-3D generation, graph-based methods, and interactive scene generation. Evaluation metrics such as Fréchet Inception Distance (FID), Kullback-Leibler (KL) Divergence, Inception Score (IS), Intersection over Union (IoU), and Mean Average Precision (mAP) are discussed in the context of their use in assessing model performance. The survey identifies key challenges and limitations in the field, such as maintaining realism, handling complex scenes with multiple objects, and ensuring consistency in object relationships and spatial arrangements. By summarizing recent advances and pinpointing areas for improvement, this survey aims to provide a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners working on automatic scene generation. © 2013 IEEE.

Stackelberg Evolutionary Games With Modulated Leadership: A Three-Agent Framework for Tumor-Immune Dynamics

In many real-world systems, agents interact in complex ways that challenge traditional control and game-theoretic approaches. Building on Stackelberg evolutionary game theory, which models the interplay between a rational leader and an adaptive follower, we introduce a three-agent framework with modulated leadership, where a passive modulator dynamically aligns with either the leader or the follower, thereby influencing the leader's strategic choices. The main contribution of this work is the application of the proposed framework to a critical biomedical challenge: tumor growth control. Particularly, we develop a novel tumor-immune model capturing evolution, interactions, and environmental factors. We then frame tumor control as a strategic problem involving the physician (leader), the evolving tumor (follower), and the immune system, which can alternatively support treatment and promote tumor survival. Leveraging this framework, we design combination therapies that dynamically adjust chemotherapy and anti-PD1 immunotherapy. Numerical simulations demonstrate the potential of the proposed approach in oncology and, more broadly, in other fields involving dynamic, multi-agent interactions. © 2017 IEEE.
