Deep Learning and Machine Learning Architectures for Dementia Detection from Speech in Women

Dementia is a neurological disorder that affects the brain and its functioning,and women experience its effects more than men *** care often requires non-invasive and rapid tests,yet conventional diagnostic techniques are time-consuming and *** of the most effective ways to diagnose dementia is by analyzing a patient’s speech,which is cheap and does not require *** research aims to determine the effectiveness of deep learning(DL)and machine learning(ML)structures in diagnosing dementia based on women’s speech *** study analyzes data drawn from the Pitt Corpus,which contains 298 dementia files and 238 control files from the Dementia Bank *** learning models and SVM classifiers were used to analyze the available audio samples in the *** methodology used two methods:a DL-ML model and a single DL model for the classification of diabetics and a single DL *** deep learning model achieved an astronomic level of accuracy of 99.99%with an F1 score of 0.9998,Precision of 0.9997,and recall of *** proposed DL-ML fusion model was equally impressive,with an accuracy of 99.99%,F1 score of 0.9995,Precision of 0.9998,and recall of ***,the study reveals how to apply deep learning and machine learning models for dementia detection from speech with high accuracy and low computational *** research work,therefore,concludes by showing the possibility of using speech-based dementia detection as a possibly helpful early diagnosis *** even further enhanced model performance and better generalization,future studies may explore real-time applications and the inclusion of other components of speech.

A Novel Reliable and Trust Objective Function for RPL-Based IoT Routing Protocol

The Internet of Things (IoT) integrates diverse devices into the Internet infrastructure, including sensors, meters, and wearable devices. Designing efficient IoT networks with these heterogeneous devices requires the selection of appropriate routing protocols, which is crucial for maintaining high Quality of Service (QoS). The Internet engineering Task Force’s Routing Over Low Power and Lossy Networks (IETF ROLL) working group developed the IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) to meet these needs. While the initial RPL standard focused on single-metric route selection, ongoing research explores enhancing RPL by incorporating multiple routing metrics and developing new Objective Functions (OFs). This paper introduces a novel Objective Function (OF), the Reliable and Secure Objective Function (RSOF), designed to enhance the reliability and trustworthiness of parent selection at both the node and link levels within IoT and RPL routing protocols. The RSOF employs an adaptive parent node selection mechanism that incorporates multiple metrics, including Residual Energy (RE), Expected Transmission Count (ETX), Extended RPL Node Trustworthiness (ERNT), and a novel metric that measures node failure rate (NFR). In this mechanism, nodes with a high NFR are excluded from the parent selection process to improve network reliability and stability. The proposed RSOF was evaluated using random and grid topologies in the Cooja Simulator, with tests conducted across small, medium, and large-scale networks to examine the impact of varying node densities. The simulation results indicate a significant improvement in network performance, particularly in terms of average latency, packet acknowledgment ratio (PAR), packet delivery ratio (PDR), and Control Message Overhead (CMO), compared to the standard Minimum Rank with Hysteresis Objective Function (MRHOF).

Monitoring COVID-19 environment: a real-time facial mask detection using YOLO models

Purpose: The rapid spread of COVID-19 has resulted in significant harm and impacted tens of millions of people globally. In order to prevent the transmission of the virus, individuals often wear masks as a protective measure for themselves and others. Coronavirus protection guidelines have been published by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO standards, COVID-19 can be prevented by wearing a mask in public places and congested regions. In these places, it is very difficult to personally check to see if people are wearing face masks or not. Methods: The objective of this research work is to build a powerful, efficient, and real-time approach for detecting people not wearing masks. Three cutting-edge object identification models, namely YOLOv4, Tiny-YOLOv4, and YOLOv5, are employed in this study for the identification of masked faces. Result: The proposed YOLOv5 model is evaluated using real-time images captured using a smartphone or tablet. The test images include both single and multiple people with and without masks. The YOLOv5 model achieved recognition accuracy of 88.90% with an average detection speed of 0.0316 s per image, whereas the YOLOv4 and Tiny-YOLOv4 produced recognition accuracy of 82.24% and 74.80% with an average detection speed of 0.0530 s and 0.0541 s per image, respectively. Conclusion: The comparative performance suggests that the YOLOv5 model has a maximum recognition accuracy of 88.90% in face mask identification tasks compared to other models such as the YOLOv4 and Tiny-YOLOv4. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to The Brazilian Society of Biomedical engineering 2025.

The medical domain faces unique challenges in information Retrieval (IR) due to the complexity of medical language and terminology discrepancies between user queries and documents. While traditional Keyword-Based Methods (KBM) have limitations, the integration of semantic knowledge bases and concept mapping techniques enhances data organization and retrieval. Addressing the growing demands in the biomedical field, a novel medical information Retrieval System (IRS) is proposed that employs Deep Learning (DL) and KBM. This system comprises five core steps: pre-processing of texts, document indexing using DL (ELMo) and KBM, advanced query processing, a BiLSTM-based retrieval network for contextual representation, and a KR-R re-ranking algorithm to refine document relevance. The purpose of the system is to give users improved biomedical search results through the integration of all of these techniques into a method that takes into consideration the semantic problems of medical records. An in-depth examination of the TREC-PM track samples from 2017 to 2019 observed an impressive leading MRR score of 0.605 in 2017 and a best-in-class rPrec score of 0.350 in 2019, proving how well able the system is to detect and rank relevant medical records accurately. © 2024 – IOS Press. One of themost prominent research areas in information technology is the Internet of Things (IoT) as its applications are widely used, such as structural monitoring, health care management systems, agriculture and battlefield management, and so on. Due to its self-organizing network and simple installation of the network, the researchers have been attracted to pursue research in the various fields of IoTs. However, a huge amount of work has been addressed on various problems confronted by IoT. The nodes densely deploy over critical environments and those are operated on tiny batteries. Moreover, the replacement of dead batteries in the nodes is almost impractical. Therefore, the problem of energy preservation and maximization of IoT networks has become the most prominent research area. However, numerous state-of-The-Art algorithms have addressed this issue. Thus, it has become necessary to gather the information and send it to the base station in an optimized method to maximize the network. Therefore, in this article, we propose a novel quantum-informed ant colony optimization (ACO) routing algorithm with the efficient encoding scheme of cluster head selection and derivation of information heuristic factors. The algorithm has been tested by simulation for various network scenarios. The simulation results of the proposed algorithm show its efficacy over a few existing evolutionary algorithms using various performance metrics, such as residual energy of the network, network lifetime, and the number of live IoT nodes. Impact Statement-Toward IoT-based applications, here we presented the Quantum-inspired ACO clustering algorithm for network lifetime. Hybrid DF and SIR Forwarding Strategy in Conventional and Distributed Alamouti Space-Time Coded Cooperative Networks

In this paper,we propose a hybrid decode-and-forward and soft information relaying(HDFSIR)strategy to mitigate error propagation in coded cooperative *** the HDFSIR approach,the relay operates in decode-and-forward(DF)mode when it successfully decodes the received message;otherwise,it switches to soft information relaying(SIR)*** benefits of the DF and SIR forwarding strategies are combined to achieve better performance than deploying the DF or SIR strategy ***-form expressions for the outage probability and symbol error rate(SER)are derived for coded cooperative communication with HDFSIR and energy-harvesting ***,we introduce a novel normalized log-likelihood-ratio based soft estimation symbol(NL-SES)mapping technique,which enhances soft symbol accuracy for higher-order modulation,and propose a model characterizing the relationship between the estimated complex soft symbol and the actual high-order modulated ***-more,the hybrid DF-SIR strategy is extended to a distributed Alamouti space-time-coded cooperative *** evaluate the~performance of the proposed HDFSIR strategy,we implement extensive Monte Carlo simulations under varying channel *** demonstrate significant improvements with the hybrid technique outperforming individual DF and SIR strategies in both conventional and distributed Alamouti space-time coded cooperative ***,at a SER of 10^(-3),the proposed NL-SES mapping demonstrated a 3.5 dB performance gain over the conventional averaging one,highlighting its superior accuracy in estimating soft symbols for quadrature phase-shift keying modulation.

In the wake of rapid advancements in artificial intelligence(AI), we stand on the brink of a transformative leap in data systems. The imminent fusion of AI and DB(AI×DB) promises a new generation of data systems, which will relieve the burden on end-users across all industry sectors by featuring AI-enhanced functionalities, such as personalized and automated in-database AI-powered analytics, and selfdriving capabilities for improved system performance. In this paper, we explore the evolution of data systems with a focus on deepening the fusion of AI and DB. We present NeurDB, an AI-powered autonomous data system designed to fully embrace AI design in each major system component and provide in-database AI-powered analytics. We outline the conceptual and architectural overview of NeurDB, discuss its design choices and key components, and report its current development and future plan.

Novel Framework for an Intrusion Detection System Using Multiple Feature Selection Methods Based on Deep Learning

Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) are deployed to detect anomalies in real time. They classify a network’s incoming traffic as benign or anomalous (attack). An efficient and robust IDS in software-defined networks is an inevitable component of network security. The main challenges of such an IDS are achieving zero or extremely low false positive rates and high detection rates. Internet of Things (IoT) networks run by using devices with minimal resources. This situation makes deploying traditional IDSs in IoT networks unfeasible. Machine learning (ML) techniques are extensively applied to build robust IDSs. Many researchers have utilized different ML methods and techniques to address the above challenges. The development of an efficient IDS starts with a good feature selection process to avoid overfitting the ML model. This work proposes a multiple feature selection process followed by classification. In this study, the Software-defined networking (SDN) dataset is used to train and test the proposed model. This model applies multiple feature selection techniques to select high-scoring features from a set of features. Highly relevant features for anomaly detection are selected on the basis of their scores to generate the candidate dataset. Multiple classification algorithms are applied to the candidate dataset to build models. The proposed model exhibits considerable improvement in the detection of attacks with high accuracy and low false positive rates, even with a few features selected.
