Automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) are essential components in electrical systems to maintain stable voltage output, ensuring optimal performance and equipment protection. The effectiveness of AVRs rely on key parameters such as voltage regulation, response time, stability, and efficiency. Integrating controllers with AVRs offers centralized monitoring and regulation, enhancing voltage output efficiency. This study therefore first discusses various controller types which showcase distinctive capabilities based on their tuning strategies and then introduces an intelligent optimization approach using fractional-order proportional-integral-derivative with double derivative (FOPIDD²) controller tailored for AVRs. The study adopts the artificial rabbits optimization (ARO) algorithm, fortified with an adaptive local search (ALS) mechanism and experience-based perturbed learning (EPL) strategy. The modified version (m-ARO) enhances solution diversity and navigational efficacy, resulting in improved optimization quality. The study's core objective is to demonstrate the superior performance of the m-ARO-based FOPIDD² controller in addressing the multifaceted challenges of AVR control, outperforming conventional techniques in stability, speed of response, robustness, and efficiency. To validate the method's efficacy, a comparative analysis is conducted using existing controllers with different tuning algorithms. Results indicate that the proposed m-ARO-based FOPIDD² controller achieves superior performance metrics, demonstrating its capability. The study also includes a wider perspective by considering nineteen different controllers, reported in the literature, for comprehensive comparison. Notably, the proposed method exhibits the best stability, further affirming its effectiveness. © 2023 The Author(s)

High-order ADER Discontinuous Galerkin schemes for a symmetric hyperbolic model of compressible barotropic two-fluid flows

This paper presents a high-order discontinuous Galerkin finite element method to solve the barotropic version of the conservative symmetric hyperbolic and thermodynamically compatible (SHTC) model of compressible two-phase flow, introduced by Romenski et al. in [28, 29], in multiple space dimensions. In the absence of algebraic source terms, the model is endowed with a curl constraint on the relative velocity field. In this paper, the hyperbolicity of the system is studied for the first time in the multidimensional case, showing that the original model is only weakly hyperbolic in multiple space dimensions. To restore strong hyperbolicity, two different methodologies are used: i) the explicit symmetrization of the system, which can be achieved by adding terms that contain linear combinations of the curl involution, similar to the Godunov-Powell terms in the MHD equations;ii) the use of the hyperbolic generalized Lagrangian multiplier (GLM) curl-cleaning approach forwarded. The PDE system is solved using a high-order ADER discontinuous Galerkin method with a posteriori sub-cell finite volume limiter to deal with shock waves and the steep gradients in the volume fraction commonly appearing in the solutions of this type of model. To illustrate the performance of the method, several different test cases and benchmark problems have been run, showing the high-order of the scheme and the good agreement when compared to reference solutions computed with other well-known methods. Multimodal Clinical Benchmark for Emergency Care (MC-BEC): A Comprehensive Benchmark for Evaluating Foundation Models in Emergency Medicine

We propose the Multimodal Clinical Benchmark for Emergency Care (MC-BEC), a comprehensive benchmark for evaluating foundation models in Emergency Medicine using a dataset of 100K+ continuously monitored Emergency department visits from 2020-2022. MC-BEC focuses on clinically relevant prediction tasks at timescales from minutes to days, including predicting patient decompensation, disposition, and emergency department (ED) revisit, and includes a standardized evaluation framework with train-test splits and evaluation metrics. The multimodal dataset includes a wide range of detailed clinical data, including triage information, prior diagnoses and medications, continuously measured vital signs, electrocardiogram and photoplethysmograph waveforms, orders placed and medications administered throughout the visit, free-text reports of imaging studies, and information on ED diagnosis, disposition, and subsequent revisits. We provide performance baselines for each prediction task to enable the evaluation of multimodal, multitask models. We believe that MC-BEC will encourage researchers to develop more effective, generalizable, and accessible foundation models for multimodal clinical data. © 2023, CC BY.

In this paper, a new analytical framework model based on stochastic geometry for Device-To-Device (D2D) communication underlaying multi-cell massive Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) system is proposed. Assuming Maximum Ratio Transmission or Zero Forcing precoding scheme for cellular downlink transmission, the impact of RF mismatches and achievable rate of cellular user are analytically derived. The studied model assumes truncated Gaussian distribution to model RF mismatches, D2D interference, inter cell interference, and intra-cell interference. Accordingly, closed form expressions of lower-bound achievable data rate for cellular users is derived. Moreover, asymptotic performance analysis under the assumption of large number of antennas has been performed. Simulation results are found to coinside with the theoritical results and validated our model. © 2020 IEEE.

The use of a light-weight deep learning Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) augmented with the power of Fuzzy Non-Sample Shearlet Transformation (FNSST) has successfully solved the problem of reducing noise and artifacts in Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) pictures. Both the Normal-Dose Computed Tomography (NDCT) and the Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) images from the dataset are subjected to the FNSST decomposition procedure during the training phase, producing high-frequency sub-images that act as input for the CNN. The CNN creates a meaningful connection between the high-frequency sub-images from LDCT and their corresponding residual sub-images during the training operation. The CNN is given the capacity to distinguish between LDCT high-frequency sub-images and expected high-frequency sub-images, which frequently have varying levels of noise or artifacts, especially in a fuzzy setting. The FNSST-CNN then successfully distinguishes LDCT high-frequency sub-images from the expected high-frequency sub-images during the testing phase, thereby reducing noise and artifacts. When compared to other approaches like KSVD, BM3D, and conventional image domain CNNs, the performance of FNSST-CNN is impressive as shown by better peak signal-to-noise ratios, stronger structural similarity, and a closer likeness to NDCT pictures. 1. A CNN model has been proposed to reduce the noise and artifacts in Low-Dose Computed Tomography images. 2. During the testing phase, the proposed model successfully distinguishes between high frequency sub-images. 3. CNN performs better than KSVD, BM3D and conventional CNN models in terms of better Signal-to-noise ratio.

A smart contract is a digital program of transaction protocol (rules of contract) based on the consensus architecture of blockchain. Smart contracts with Blockchain are modern technologies that have gained enormous attention in scientific and practical applications. A smart contract is the central aspect of a blockchain that facilitates blockchain as a platform outside the cryptocurrency spectrum. The development of blockchain technology, with a focus on smart contracts, has advanced significantly in recent years. However, research on the smart contract idea has weaknesses in the implementation sectors based on a decentralized network that shares an identical state. This paper extensively reviews smart contracts based on multi-criteria analysis, challenges, and motivations. Therefore, implementing blockchain in multi-criteria research is required to increase the efficiency of interaction between users via supporting information exchange with high trust. Implementing blockchain in the multi-criteria analysis is necessary to increase the efficiency of interaction between users via supporting information exchange and with high confidence, detecting malfunctioning, helping users with performance issues, reaching a consensus, deploying distributed solutions and allocating plans, tasks and joint missions. The smart contract with decision-making performance, planning and execution improves the implementation based on efficiency, sustainability and management. Furthermore, the uncertainty and supply chain performance lead to improved users’ confidence in offering new solutions in exchange for problems in smart contacts. META-PDE: LEARNING TO SOLVE PDES QUICKLY WITHOUT A MESH

Partial differential equations (PDEs) are often computationally challenging to solve, and in many settings many related PDEs must be be solved either at every timestep or for a variety of candidate boundary conditions, parameters, or geometric domains. We present a meta-learning based method which learns to rapidly solve problems from a distribution of related PDEs. We use meta-learning (MAML and LEAP) to identify initializations for a neural network representation of the PDE solution such that a residual of the PDE can be quickly minimized on a novel task. We apply our meta-solving approach to a nonlinear Poisson's equation, 1D Burgers' equation, and hyperelasticity equations with varying parameters, geometries, and boundary conditions. The resulting Meta-PDE method finds qualitatively accurate solutions to most problems within a few gradient steps;for the nonlinear Poisson and hyper-elasticity equation this results in an intermediate accuracy approximation up to an order of magnitude faster than a baseline finite element analysis (FEA) solver with equivalent accuracy. In comparison to other learned solvers and surrogate models, this meta-learning approach can be trained without supervision from expensive ground-truth data, does not require a mesh, and can even be used when the geometry and topology varies between tasks. Nowadays, there is strong demand for high-bitrate systems that can provide and distribute large bandwidth while assuring minimal error rate and high-quality communication with regards to the implementation of cloud centres, new 6G networks and smart applications. This all leads to continuous dynamic development in the field of xPON networks bringing new solutions for future optical networks. The presented work focuses on NG-PON2 networks, which are represented by Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (TWDM-PON) (G.989.1) or Super-PON (IEEE P802.3cs). The basis of the introduced topology is in combination of wave and time access through the TWDM-PON network. In our simulation, we were focusing on the utilization of eight wavelengths operating in the C and L band with amplifiers implementation, namely Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) or Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA). Regarding to used amplifier the ODN (Optical Distribution Network) reach of TWDM-PON were studied as well as the bitrate of 10 Gbps per wavelength in both upstream and downstream directions with the help of parameters such as bit error rate (BER), Q-factor. From the simulation results, it is shown that by implementing an EDFA amplifier, a longer range of up to 60 km and a lower BER than that of SOA can be achieved. The proposed TWDM-PON system provides a communication network for urban as well as rural areas with guaranteed high bit rates and range. © 2025 SPIE.

The randomized play-the-winner (RPW) model is a generalized Pólya Urn process with broad applications ranging from clinical trials to molecular evolution. We derive an exact expression for the variance of the RPW model by transforming the Pólya Urn process into a martingale, correcting an earlier result of Matthews and Rosenberger (1997). We then use this result to approximate the full probability mass function of the RPW model for certain parameter values relevant to genetic applications. Finally, we fit our model to genomic sequencing data of SARS-CoV-2, demonstrating a novel method of estimating the viral mutation rate that delivers comparable results to existing scientific literature. © 2023, CC BY.
