Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy serves as an important tool to analyze chemicals and proteins in bioengineering. However, NMR signals are easily contaminated by noise during the data acquisition, which can affect subsequent quantitative analysis. Therefore, denoising NMR signals has been a long-time concern. In this work, we propose an optimization model-based iterative denoising method, CHORD-V, by treating the time-domain NMR signal as damped exponentials and maintaining the exponential signal form with a Vandermonde factorization. Results on both synthetic and realistic NMR data show that CHORD-V has a superior denoising performance over typical Cadzow and rQRd methods, and the state-of-the-art CHORD method. CHORD-V restores low-intensity spectral peaks more accurately, especially when the noise is relatively high. © 2023, CC BY.

Smart agriculture has not been an unreachable technology in recent years. From the lighting control during cultivation, temperature and humidity control and other technologies have become quite easy. However, most of these technologies be used in greenhouses, and they are not as simple as expected in an open environment. In this research, a smart irrigation control performed in a bamboo farm. The water content of the soil understood through a sensing module and transmitted back to the central controller. Farmers do not necessarily have to open the water tank to discharge water as before, and then close the water tank based on experience. In order to achieve a simple and intelligent agricultural irrigation system. © 2021 IEEE.

Despite significant advancements of deep learning-based forgery detectors for distinguishing manipulated deepfake images, most detection approaches suffer from moderate to significant performance degradation with low-quality compressed deepfake *** of the limited information in low-quality images, detecting low-quality deepfake remains an important challenge. In this work, we apply frequency domain learning and optimal transport theory in knowledge distillation (KD) to specifically improve the detection of low-quality compressed deepfake images. We explore transfer learning capability in KD to enable a student network to learn discriminative features from low-quality images effectively. In particular, we propose the Attention-based Deepfake detection Distiller (ADD), which consists of two novel distillations: 1) frequency attention distillation that effectively retrieves the removed high-frequency components in the student network, and 2) multi-view attention distillation that creates multiple attention vectors by slicing the teacher's and student's tensors under different views to transfer the teacher tensor's distribution to the student more efficiently. Our extensive experimental results demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in detecting low-quality compressed deepfake images. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Serious climate changes and energy-related environmental problems are currently critical issues in the world. In order to reduce carbon emissions and save our environment, renewable energy harvesting technologies will serve as a key solution in the near future. Among them, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which is one of the most promising mechanical energy harvesters by means of contact electrification phenomenon, are explosively developing due to abundant wasting mechanical energy sources and a number of superior advantages in a wide availability and selection of materials, relatively simple device configurations, and low-cost processing. Significant experimental and theoretical efforts have been achieved toward understanding fundamental behaviors and a wide range of demonstrations since its report in 2012. As a result, considerable technological advancement has been exhibited and it advances the timeline of achievement in the proposed roadmap. Now, the technology has reached the stage of prototype development with verification of performance beyond the lab scale environment toward its commercialization. In this review, distinguished authors in the world worked together to summarize the state of the art in theory, materials, devices, systems, circuits, and applications in TENG fields. The great research achievements of researchers in this field around the world over the past decade are expected to play a major role in coming to fruition of unexpectedly accelerated technological advances over the next decade. © 2023 The Authors. The presence of periodic modulation in graphene leads to a reconstruction of the band structure and formation of minibands. In an external uniform magnetic field, a fractal energy spectrum called Hofstadter butterfly is formed. Particularly interesting in this regard are superlattices with tunable modulation strength, such as electrostatically induced ones in graphene. We perform quantum transport modeling in gate-induced square two-dimensional superlattice in graphene and investigate the relation to the details of the band structure. At low magnetic field the dynamics of carriers reflects the semi-classical orbits which depend on the mini band structure. We theoretically model transverse magnetic focusing, a ballistic transport technique by means of which we investigate the minibands, their extent and carrier type. We find a good agreement between the focusing spectra and the mini band structures obtained from the continuum model, proving usefulness of this technique. At high magnetic field the calculated four-probe resistance fit the Hofstadter butterfly spectrum obtained for our superlattice. Our quantum transport modeling provides an insight into the mini band structures, and can be applied to other superlattice geometries. © 2023, Springer Nature Limited.

This paper presents a research and innovation centre for a smart ocean observation system. The main goal of the centre, SFI Smart Ocean, is to enable sustainable ocean management through real-time measurements from autonomous and smart sensors. As for smart systems on-land, a smart ocean observation system of sensors requires wireless communication and a software platform gathering all required data. To ensure usability in real-time, minimize maintenance costs, and time-consuming delayed mode data analysis, it is paramount to ensure high reliability of the system. This can be achieved by on-line quality control, self-diagnostics, and self-calibration at the sensors.

As several countries were experiencing unprecedented economic slowdowns due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, small business enterprises started adapting to digital technologies for business transactions. However, in Africa, particularly Nigeria, COVID-19 pandemic resulted to some financial crisis that impacted negatively on the sustainability of small and medium-sized (SMEs) businesses. Thus, this study examined the role of social media on selected SMEs in Nigeria in the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic that led to several lock downs in a bid to curtail the spread of the virus. Cross-sectional survey research design was used alongside convenience population sampling techniques. The population was categorised based on selected SMEs businesses, while a quantitative research approach was adopted, and primary data were collected using a questionnaire. The questionnaires were administered to owners and operators of SMEs in Ikotun and Ikeja areas of Lagos State, Nigeria. A total of 190 questionnaires were distributed, where 183 usable responses were analysed. The findings of the study show that SMEs were aware of the usefulness of social media to their businesses as they largely leveraged it in conducting their businesses during the national lockdowns. The study recommended that labour/trade unions should sensitise and encourage business owners on the benefits of continuous use of social media in carrying out their business transactions. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

In this research article, we survey existing quantum physics-related games and, based on this survey, propose a definition for the concept of quantum games. We define a quantum game as any type of rule-based game that either employs the principles of quantum physics or references quantum phenomena or the theory of quantum physics through any of three proposed dimensions: the perceivable dimension of quantum physics, the dimension of quantum technologies, and the dimension of scientific purposes, such as citizen science or education. We also discuss the concept of quantum computer games, which are games on quantum computers, as well as definitions for the concept of science games. Various games explore quantum physics and quantum computing through digital, analogue, and hybrid means, with various incentives driving their development. As interest in games as educational tools for supporting quantum literacy grows, understanding the diverse landscape of quantum games becomes increasingly important. We propose that the three dimensions of quantum games identified in this article be used for designing, analysing, and defining the phenomenon of quantum games. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.
