Emotion correlation mining through deep learning models on natural language text

Emotion analysis has been attracting researchers’ attention. Most previous works in the artificial-intelligence field focus on recognizing emotion rather than mining the reason why emotions are not or wrongly recognized. The correlation among emotions contributes to the failure of emotion recognition. In this article, we try to fill the gap between emotion recognition and emotion correlation mining through natural language text from Web news. The correlation among emotions, expressed as the confusion and evolution of emotion, is primarily caused by human emotion cognitive bias. To mine emotion correlation from emotion recognition through text, three kinds of features and two deep neural-network models are presented. The emotion confusion law is extracted through an orthogonal basis. The emotion evolution law is evaluated from three perspectives: one-step shift, limited-step shifts, and shortest path transfer. The method is validated using three datasets: 1) the titles;2) the bodies;and 3) the comments of news articles, covering both objective and subjective texts in varying lengths (long and short). The experimental results show that in subjective comments, emotions are easily mistaken as anger. Comments tend to arouse emotion circulations of love–anger and sadness–anger. In objective news, it is easy to recognize text emotion as love and cause fear–joy circulation. These findings could provide insights for applications regarding affective interaction, such as network public sentiment, social media communication, and human–computer interaction. In this paper, we consider high-dimensional nonconvex square-root-loss regression problems and introduce a proximal majorization-minimization (PMM) algorithm for solving these problems. Our key idea for making the proposed PMM to be efficient is to develop a sparse semismooth Newton method to solve the corresponding subproblems. By using the Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz property exhibited in the underlining problems, we prove that the PMM algorithm converges to a d-stationary point. We also analyze the oracle property of the initial subproblem used in our algorithm. Extensive numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the high efficiency of the proposed PMM algorithm.

The growing number of autoimmune diseases necessitates the needs novel drug delivery system alternatives to improve targeted therapy. The study deals with the immediate requirement for improvements by investigating the limitations of existing systems, highlighting their limitations in precision, patient adherence, and real-time monitoring. The proposed system combines Internet of Things (IoT) technology into medicine distribution, providing an extensive structure that makes use of smart devices, sensors, and networking solutions. The integration attempts to improve patient participation and treatment efficacy by ensuring tailored regimens. The study demonstrates promising discoveries in optimizing therapeutic interventions, cost-effectiveness, and data-driven insights through an in-depth evaluation of case studies and successful implementations. The proposed IoT-enhanced drug delivery system not only addresses the limitations of existing systems but also represents an evolution for healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical businesses. Patient privacy and data security are essential for ethical and regulatory reasons. The study's results and analysis highlight the proposed system's potential for overcoming limitations and enhancing targeted therapy for autoimmune disorders, setting the groundwork for a future in which IoT seamlessly interacts with drug delivery systems to transform patient care.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), as a non-invasive method to reveal brain function alterations, frequently yields time series with unequal lengths in real-world scenarios, which may arise from factors such as motion artifacts, participant state, and differing scan protocols. This variability conflicts with the traditional methods relying on isometric inputs, which poses a significant challenge for the downstream applications such as brain age prediction. To address this challenge, we introduced Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) to normalize the length of time series and proposed split-channel residual convolution (SC) and self-attention mechanisms (SA) to perform brain age estimation, called GPR-SCSANet. Results showed that the proposed framework, GPR-SCSANet, is able to fully utilize the inherent information and learn richer feature representations from unequal-length fMRI time courses, which significantly improved the prediction accuracy across 3 brain atlases and 5 prediction models. The results demonstrated the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed GPR-SCSANet, showcasing the potential for broader applications in brain age prediction task.

With the recent advances of the Internet of Things, and the increasing accessibility to ubiquitous computing resources and mobile devices, the prevalence of rich media contents, and the ensuing social, economic, and cultural changes, computing technology and applications have evolved quickly over the past decade. They now go beyond personal computing, facilitating collaboration and social interactions in general, causing a quick proliferation of social relationships among IoT entities. The increasing number of these relationships and their heterogeneous social features have led to computing and communication bottlenecks that prevent the IoT network from taking advantage of these relationships to improve the offered services and customize the delivered content, known as social relationships explosion. On the other hand, the quick advances in artificial intelligence applications in social computing have led to the emerging of a promising research field known as Artificial Social Intelligence (ASI) that has the potential to tackle the social relationships explosion problem. This paper discusses the role of IoT in social relationships management, the problem of social relationships explosion in IoT, and reviews the proposed solutions using ASI, including social-oriented machine-learning and deep-learning techniques. We propose a general framework for obtaining probabilistic solutions to PDE-based inverse problems. Bayesian methods are attractive for uncertainty quantification but assume knowledge of the likelihood model or data generation process. This assumption is difficult to justify in many inverse problems, where the specification of the data generation process is not obvious. We adopt a Gibbs posterior framework that directly posits a regularized variational problem on the space of probability distributions of the parameter. We propose a novel model comparison framework that evaluates the optimality of a given loss based on its "predictive performance". We provide cross-validation procedures to calibrate the regularization parameter of the variational objective and compare multiple loss functions. Some novel theoretical properties of Gibbs posteriors are also presented. We illustrate the utility of our framework via a simulated example, motivated by dispersion-based wave models used to characterize arterial vessels in ultrasound vibrometry. © 2022, CC BY.

This paper reviews three main aspects of authentication protocols of Internet of Things (IoT): classifications and limitations, current trends, and opportunities. First, we explore the significance of IoT authentication protocols in ensuring secure communication and the protection of transmitted and received data, focusing on the classifications and associated limitations. Second, we discuss the latest developments and trends, such as using blockchain technology and machine learning to enhance authentication protocols. Third, we highlight the future opportunities, including the development of human-centric authentication designs and improved platform interoperability. At the end of this paper, we provided some insights gained for the new researcher, offering analyses of the trends and challenges in this field, giving recommendations for improving IoT authentication protocols, and emphasizing the need for further research and cooperation to develop advanced security solutions. © 2016 IEEE.

Joint blind source separation (JBSS) techniques have been successfully applied for the analysis of multi-subject functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. However, convergence in JBSS can be only guaranteed to a local optimum, since typically cost functions are non-convex. Also, iterative methods are usually implemented with random initialization for best performance, resulting in high variability, especially for more flexible solutions. Yet, the assessment of the reproducibility of JBSS has been limited in the literature, even though it has been demonstrated that when not taken into account, the solutions can be highly suboptimal. In this work, we propose a framework for the evaluation of the reproducibility of independent vector analysis, an important JBSS solution. We introduce a mechanism for selecting the model complexity that offers the most consistent and accurate solution, and demonstrate results to underline its importance using resting state fMRI data.

Wide-area 3D data generation for complex urban environments often needs to leverage a mixed use of data collected from both air and ground platforms, such as from aerial surveys, satellite, and mobile vehicles, etc. On one hand, such kind of data with information from drastically different views (ca. 90°and more) forming cross-view data, which due to very limited overlapping region caused by the drastically different line of sight of the sensors, is difficult to be registered without significant manual efforts. On the other hand, the registration of such data often suffers from non-rigid distortion of the street-view data (e.g., non-rigid trajectory drift), which cannot be simply rectified by a similarity transformation. In this paper, based on the assumption that the object boundaries (e.g., buildings) from the over-view data should coincide with footprints of façade 3D points generated from street-view photogrammetric images, we aim to address this problem by proposing a fully automated geo-registration method for cross-view data, which utilizes semantically segmented object boundaries as view-invariant features under a global optimization framework through graph-matching: taking the over-view point clouds generated from stereo/multi-stereo satellite images and the street-view point clouds generated from monocular video images as the inputs, the proposed method models segments of buildings as nodes of graphs, both detected from the satellite-based and street-view based point clouds, thus to form the registration as a graph-matching problem to allow non-rigid matches;to enable a robust solution and fully utilize the topological relations between these segments, we propose to address the graph-matching problem on its conjugate graph solved through a belief-propagation algorithm.
