Passive Optical Network (PON) standards relied on Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) and Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) methods to maximize data rate. The latest 25GS-PON specifications were declared by Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) group in 2022. The current work stacks two and four 25-Gb/s TDM-PON downstream (DS) channels. The simulation, evaluation, and outcomes are completed using various versions of *** software. O-band wavelength plan as well as Continuous-Wave (CW) laser with Non-Return-to-Zero/On-Off-Keying (NRZ-OOK) format support the system to mitigate Chromatic Dispersion (CD) and upgrade the system capacity. The power budget of 31.1 dB is suitable for Optical Distribution Network (ODN) standards, and the standard value of receiver sensitivity (-24.1 dBm) is achieved. The transmitted power of 1, 4, and 7 dBm are needed for 32, 64, and 128 users/λ, respectively. The transmission is successful for 512 subscribers and 20 km optical reach without the use of amplifiers, Forward Error Correction (FEC), and compensation techniques. The effect of four-wave mixing (FWM) is solved by the wavelength space of 0.8 nm as well as the slight increase in transmitted power from 7 to 7.8 dBm. The open and clear eye diagrams prove the quality of received signals. The simplicity of structure is high because of utilizing basic components and Intensity Modulation/Direct Detection (IM/DD) strategy without amplification and equalization. FEC and compensation techniques are recommended for future work.

We use phase-locked few-cycle mid-infrared pulses to probe internal Rydberg-like transitions of quasi-one-dimensional excitons in the magnetic semiconductor CrSBr. The experimentally observed fine structure encompasses a lifted degeneracy of the 2p states induced by the anisotropic optoelectronic properties of the crystal. Furthermore, the Coulomb correlations are effectively controlled via the magnetic structure. By inducing a phase transition from antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic states either thermally or by applying an external magnetic field, we can switch excitons from strongly bound and mono-layer-localized to weakly bound and interlayer-delocalized species. A state-of-the-art many-body theory fully captures these findings and identifies the spin restrictions of the interlayer tunneling. In the paramagnetic phase, the reduced quantum confinement lowers the binding energy and increases the phase space for scattering. This in situ control of Coulomb correlations opens a path to shape phase transitions on demand.

We introduce a new differential privacy (DP) accountant called the saddle-point accountant (SPA). SPA approximates privacy guarantees for the composition of DP mechanisms in an accurate and fast manner. Our approach is inspired by the saddle-point method-a ubiquitous numerical technique in statistics. We prove rigorous performance guarantees by deriving upper and lower bounds for the approximation error offered by SPA. The crux of SPA is a combination of large-deviation methods with central limit theorems, which we derive via exponentially tilting the privacy loss random variables corresponding to the DP mechanisms. One key advantage of SPA is that it runs in constant time for the n-fold composition of a privacy mechanism. Numerical experiments demonstrate that SPA achieves comparable accuracy to state-of-the-art accounting methods with a faster runtime. © 2022, CC BY.

In this work, we present a learning algorithm for a wireless communications network to transmit decoy packets to counter an adversarial sensing-reactive jammer. As the jammer is required to search across channels for data transmissions, decoy packets can have the effect of stalling the jammer on a particular channel, preventing it from continuing its search and leaving legitimate packets unimpeded. A reinforcement learning algorithm trains a deep neural network with an exploration-exploitation algorithm and experience replay. The state- and action-space and reward function are presented as components of the reinforcement learning framework. Our algorithm is tested with software simulations, modeling ZigBee communications nodes using time-division multiple access for medium access control. A reactive jammer is modeled in the simulation, with the goal of disrupting any detected ZigBee transmissions. A means to measure and distribute the reward function and system state to enable edge-learning in this context is presented as part of the implementation. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm in mitigating the jamming attack, outperforming a random decoy strategy by a factor of two.

In the last decades, time series classification (TSC) has emerged as one of the most challenging issues in data mining, and extensive studies have been done on various methods, including algorithm-based and learning-based techniques. Sensor-based human activity recognition (HAR) is a TSC issue that has become one of the most sought-after fields among business and academia specialists because of the proliferation of smartphone technology and wearable movement sensors. Conventional approaches to feature extraction provide a significant challenge in feature selection. Deep learning is an efficient strategy in the HAR scientific field and has solved the issue of feature selection. Nevertheless, several obstacles remain to study topics, including classifier interpretation. This article integrates well-known deep learning methods, namely convolutional neural networks and RNN-based models. The new approach proved to be more effective than the existing state-of-the-art approach. We assessed our network on the multivariant time-series benchmark (UCI-HAR) and revealed that our model surpasses other models in terms of training time and overall accuracy.

This work focuses on the problem of distributed optimization in multi-agent cyberphysical systems, where a legitimate agent’s iterates are influenced both by the values it receives from potentially malicious neighboring agents, and by its own self-serving target function. We develop a new algorithmic and analytical framework to achieve resilience for the class of problems where stochastic values of trust between agents exist and can be exploited. In this case, we show that convergence to the true global optimal point can be recovered, both in mean and almost surely, even in the presence of malicious agents. Furthermore, we provide expected convergence rate guarantees in the form of upper bounds on the expected squared distance to the optimal value. Finally, numerical results are presented that validate our analytical convergence guarantees even when the malicious agents compose the majority of agents in the network and where existing methods fail to converge to the optimal nominal points. We investigate two-phase flow in porous media and derive a two-scale model, which incorporates pore-scale phase distribution and surface tension into the effective behavior at the larger Darcy scale. The free-boundary problem at the pore scale is modeled using a diffuse interface approach in the form of a coupled Allen-Cahn Navier-Stokes system with an additional momentum flux due to surface tension forces. Using periodic homogenization and formal asymptotic expansions, a two-scale model with cell problems for phase evolution and velocity contributions is derived. We investigate the computed effective parameters and their relation to the saturation for different fluid distributions, in comparison to commonly used relative permeability saturation curves. The two-scale model yields non-monotone relations for relative permeability and saturation. The strong dependence on local fluid distribution and effects captured by the cell problems highlights the importance of incorporating pore-scale information into the macro-scale equations. © 2023, CC BY.

We analyze how the total scattering cross-section (TSCS) and absorption cross-section (ACS) of a circular dielectric rod, illuminated with the E-polarized plane wave, is modified by a conformal graphene strip of arbitrary angular width and chemical potential. In the core of our treatment, there is a dual series equation where the unknown are the field angular Fourier harmonics. We subject this equation to the Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform (IDFT) that yields a Fredholm second kind matrix equation. Such a procedure guarantees the convergence of the obtained numerical results. We present the normalized TSCS and ACS versus the angular width of graphene strip and the frequency in the range from the statics to 1 THz. These plots convincingly demonstrate that the resonances on the lowest non-plasmon natural modes of the considered scatterer are still tunable due to the tunability of graphene's conductivity. © 2022 IEEE.

The process of fish breeding is extensively applied in fish farms and it is influenced by either environmental factors (in case of natural reproduction) and by the use of exogenous hormones (in case of artificial reproduction). Reproducing some species under controlled conditions without hormonal preparations is not possible. Many hormonal agents have been previously described in the scientific literature as beneficial in the fish breeding process. The effectiveness of these agents varies. This paper reviews some of the basic hormonal substances and describes the results of artificial reproduction. The most frequently encountered substances that give the best results are: Carp pituitary homogenate (CPH), Ovopel and Ovaprim. It can be concluded that in order to ensure the success of reproduction, the doses applied are particularly important, as well as the way of administration of the agent. © 2022 IEEE.
