Attendance systems have become more modern, and one of the biometric systems without physical contact is face recognition. However, many face-based attendance systems still carry out attendance individually and cannot detect multiple faces simultaneously. In addition, capturing facial data in real-time is still a challenge because the relatively large distance between the camera and the individual reduces the ability to recognize faces. The general solution is to use super-resolution to generate better-quality faces while maintaining the main facial recognition features. One technique still being researched is super-resolution generative adversarial networks (SRGAN). SRGAN can enlarge the resolution of captured images and maintain image quality sufficient for face recognition. The attendance system can be easily integrated into edge devices such as the Jetson Nano. This paper proposes automatic and effective attendance systems with the super-resolution technique to detect and recognize faces in low-resolution input. The experimental results show that using face data capture with a resolution of 40 × 40 pixels and a four-fold magnification results in a resolution of 160 × 160 pixels. Combining Face SRGAN with FaceNet architecture as the basis of face recognition can achieve an accuracy rate of 78.19% and an F1-Score of 81.13% with an average processing time of 1.61 seconds per frame on a PC and 14.55 seconds per frame on a Jetson Nano at an average of face recognition per frame of as many as up to 8 faces simultaneously.

The resilience of active distribution systems against high-impact low-probability (HILP) events is a concern for distribution system operators (DSOs) and operators. In the short term, the optimal scheduling of distribution systems including various distributed energy resources (DERs) can improve the grid’s resilience without much extra cost and time. Considering the reliable extra power that the DERs can supply, which is known as the DER’s effective load-carrying capability (ELCC), this paper aims to integrate ELCC calculations into the general resilience-oriented distribution system scheduling methodology. In this way, the mesh view of the distribution system is first obtained to exactly calculate the location of the system components. Then, scenarios are generated based on the market characteristics and the HILP event features, such as location, type, and severity level. Finally, the proposed methodology is developed by integrating the generalized distribution system scheduling methodology with ELCC calculations considering uncertainties and carbon emissions. The proposed method is applied to an augmented IEEE 33-bus test system with DERs. Results show that the ELCC of DERs is a cost-effective method to improve distribution system resilience in the short term.

This paper presents a novel line-of-control (LoC) monitoring system that leverages the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve border security. The system creates a strong infrastructure for real-time monitoring throughout critical border regions, especially the Line of Control, by utilizing IoT devices, sensors, and communication technologies. The coverage, timeliness, and data quality of conventional border surveillance systems are frequently compromised. As opposed to this, the suggested system makes use of a wirelessly networked network of intelligent sensors, such as infrared, acoustic, and video cameras. By utilizing sophisticated image processing algorithms and machine learning to analyze the gathered data, the system is able to differentiate between regular activities and any security risks. To help security staff make decisions quickly, real-time updates are transmitted to a centralized control center.
