Peer-to-peer systems have gained immense popularity in the recent years, but trustworthiness of the services in P2P systems still remain a major concern. Trust is an important aspect of decision making and particularly influences the specification of security policy. A dependable trust model should be capable of handling the following important issues: dealing with sudden fluctuations in peer behavior, tolerating unintentional errors and overloading of trust metrics due to a long history of feedbacks. This paper reviews some trust systems and their models and presents a novel trust model which uses an incremental PID-like algorithm to deal with the above problems (PID stands for proportional, integral and derivative).

The use of component-based software engineering (CBSE) is growing in popularity among the software engineering community and it has been successfully applied in many engineering domains. Component quality evaluations by adequate metrics are needed for large scale project. However, the software quality evaluation should also be performed on component assembly since the overall quality of the CBSE is more important. In this paper, we briefly survey the traditional software metrics and then discuss metrics for both the individual component and their assembly between the components. Many enhancements of the ordinary TCP are suggested to solve the handoff and bit error rate (BER) problems that may be encountered by any wireless network, leading to decrease its throughputs, such as I-TCP, M-TCP, Snoop TCP, and Freeze TCP. These protocols concern their enhancements in solving one problem, either the handoff problem or the BER problem. In this paper, the MS-TCP protocol is suggested, it combines the features of the M-TCP and the Snoop TCP, which gives it the ability to overcome the handoff and BER problems in wireless network, the MS-TCP keeps the throughput of the sender before and after the handoff similarly, it has a local retransmission facility to retransmit the lost packets which caused by BER, and it is able to recover quickly from losses due to disconnections, to eliminate serial timeouts.

Transform coding based on the Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT), the discrete cosine transform (DCT), and the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is well-understood for optical images. Transform coding applied to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, however, has not been well-studied. This paper compares the results of compressing SAR images when it is available in Cartesian and polar formats. We compare the compression results based on six performance criteria-mean-squared error, mean absolute error, peak signal-to-noise ratio, energy compaction, transform gain, and compression *** both the formats the phase information of the compressed data is preserved to a great extent. A block adaptive Max quantizer is used with 1-5 bit quantization of the components. The quality of the reconstructed data is compared in terms of compression ratio and quality parameters: signal to noise ratio (SNR), standard deviation of the phase (PSD), and mean phase error (MPE). The parameters are calculated for SAR raw data, complex data and 8-bit gray scale image. Finally, original(Fig.4) and reconstructed gray scale images(Fig. 5) are presented.

Accurate estimation of the software effort and schedule affects the budget computation. Bidding for contracts depends mainly on the estimated cost. Inaccurate estimates will lead to failure of making a profit, increased probability of project incompletion and delay of the project delivery date. In this paper, we explore the use of Soft Computing Techniques to build a suitable model structure to utilize improved estimations of software effort for NASA software projects. In doing so, we plan to use Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to tune the parameters of the famous COnstructive COst MOdel (COCOMO). We plan also to explore the advantages of Fuzzy Logic to build a set of linear models over the domain of possible software Line Of Code (LOC). The performance of the developed model was evaluated using NASA software projects data set [1]. A comparison between COCOMO tuned-PSO, Fuzzy Logic (FL), Halstead, Walston-Felix, Bailey-Basili and Doty models were provided.

Different streams of ai idealize different aspects of human cognition. Idealization of intelligence as an embodied activity, involving an integration of cognition, perception and the body, places the tightest constraints on the design space for ai artifacts, forcing ai to deeply understand the design tradeoffs and tricks that biology has developed. I propose that a step in the design of such artifacts is to broaden the notion of cognitive state from the current linguistic-symbolic, Language-of-Thought framework to a multi-modal one, where perception and kinesthetic modalities participate in thinking. This is in contrast to the roles assigned to perception and motor activities as modules external to central cognition in the currently dominant theories in ai and Cognitive science. I develop the outlines of this proposal, and describe the implementation of a bimodal version in which a diagrammatic representation component is added to the cognitive state.
