In online dynamic graph drawing,constraints over nodes and node pairs help preserve a coherent mental map in a sequence of *** the constraints is challenging due to the requirements of both preserving mental map and satisfying the visual aesthetics of a graph *** existing algorithms basically depend on local changes but fail to do proper evaluations on the global propagation when setting *** solve this problem,we introduce a heuristic model derived from PageRank which simulates the node movement as an inverse Markov process hence to give a global analysis of the layout's change,according to which different constraints can be *** constraints,along with stress function,generate layouts maintaining spatial positions and shapes of relatively stable substructures between adjacent *** demonstrate that our method preserves both structure and position similarity to help users track graph changes visually.

Deep learning methods have gained increased attention in various applications due to their outstanding performance. For exploring how this high performance relates to the proper use of data artifacts and the accurate problem formulation of a given task, interpretation models have become a crucial component in developing deep learning-based systems. Interpretation models enable the understanding of the inner workings of deep learning models and offer a sense of security in detecting the misuse of artifacts in the input data. Similar to prediction models, interpretation models are also susceptible to adversarial inputs. This work introduces two attacks, AdvEdge and AdvEdge+, that deceive both the target deep learning model and the coupled interpretation model. We assess the effectiveness of proposed attacks against two deep learning model architectures coupled with four interpretation models that represent different categories of interpretation models. Our experiments include the attack implementation using various attack frameworks. We also explore the potential countermeasures against such attacks. Our analysis shows the effectiveness of our attacks in terms of deceiving the deep learning models and their interpreters, and highlights insights to improve and circumvent the attacks. © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.

Brain tumors are abnormal cell growths that occur in various parts of the brain, and the accurate classification of these tumors plays a critical role in determining treatment methods. Classification and diagnosis of brain tumors based on artificial intelligence and deep learning models have been made possible due to advances in medical image processing technologies. For instance, such technologies facilitate quick detection of tumors by health experts thereby improving early diagnosis rate and hence enhancing treatment outcomes. Importantly, however, one considers improvement or breakthroughs in artificial intelligence-based classification systems as a crucial step forward towards brain tumor diagnosis as well as its treatment strategy. In this study we use Google Research's ImageNet-21k pre-trained ResNet50 model for classifying brain tumor cases. This model is a deep learning-based image classification tool and is capable of learning from large data sets. The model is specifically trained for high-resolution image recognition and is designed to achieve high accuracy rates. The results showed a classification accuracy of 99.9 percent, which is an exceptional accuracy rate for this model. This accuracy rate indicates that the model is highly effective in detecting and classifying brain tumors. High accuracy rates allow for early diagnosis of patients' diseases and, as it is often said in medicine, “Early Diagnosis Saves Lives”. This result is one of the many proofs of how effective artificial intelligence and deep learning are in medical image analysis.

In disaster scenarios, conventional terrestrial multi-access edge computing (MEC) paradigms, which rely on fixed infrastructure, may become unavailable due to infrastructure damage. With high-probability line-of-sight (LoS) communication, flexible mobility, and low cost, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted MEC is emerging as a new promising paradigm to provide edge computing services for ground user devices (UDs) in disaster-stricken areas. However, the limited battery capacity, computing resources, and spectrum resources also pose serious challenges for UAV-assisted MEC, which can potentially shorten the service time of UAVs and degrade the quality of experience (QoE) of UDs without an effective control approach. To this end, in this work, we first present a hierarchical architecture of multiple-UAV-assisted MEC networks that enables the coordinated provision of edge computing services by multiple UAVs. Then, we formulate a joint task offloading, resource allocation, and UAV trajectory planning optimization problem (JTRTOP) to maximize the QoE of UDs while considering the energy consumption constraints of UAVs. Since the problem is proven to be a future-dependent and NP-hard problem, we propose a novel online joint task offloading, resource allocation, and UAV trajectory planning approach (OJTRTA) to solve the problem. Specifically, the JTRTOP is first transformed into a per-slot real-time optimization problem (PROP) using the Lyapunov optimization framework. Then, a two-stage optimization method based on game theory and convex optimization is proposed to solve the PROP. Simulation results provide empirical evidence supporting the superior system performance of the proposed OJTRTA in comparison to alternative approaches. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Peptides are gaining significant attention in diverse fields such as the pharmaceutical market has seen a steady rise in peptide-based therapeutics over the past six decades. Peptides have been utilized in the development of distinct applications including inhibitors of SARS-COV-2 and treatments for conditions like cancer and diabetes. Distinct types of peptides possess unique characteristics, and development of peptide-specific applications require the discrimination of one peptide type from others. To the best of our knowledge, approximately 230 Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven applications have been developed for 22 distinct types of peptides, yet there remains significant room for development of new predictors. A Comprehensive review addresses the critical gap by providing a consolidated platform for the development of AI-driven peptide classification applications. This paper offers several key contributions, including presenting the biological foundations of 22 unique peptide types and categorizes them into four main classes: Regulatory, Therapeutic, Nutritional, and Delivery Peptides. It offers an in-depth overview of 47 databases that have been used to develop peptide classification benchmark datasets. It summarizes details of 288 benchmark datasets that are used in development of diverse types AI-driven peptide classification applications. It provides a detailed summary of 197 sequence representation learning methods and 94 classifiers that have been used to develop 230 distinct AI-driven peptide classification applications. Across 22 distinct types peptide classification tasks related to 288 benchmark datasets, it demonstrates performance values of 230 AI-driven peptide classification applications. Businesses in the E-Commerce sector, especially those in the business-to-consumer segment, are engaged in fierce competition for survival, trying to gain access to their rivals' client bases while keeping current customers from defecting. The cost of acquiring new customers is rising as more competitors join the market with significant upfront expenditures and cutting-edge penetration strategies, making client retention essential for these organizations. The best course of action in this circumstance is to detect prospective churning customers and prevent churn with temporary retention measures. It's also essential to understand why the customer decided to go away to apply customized win-back strategies. Each customer's information, including searches made, purchases made, frequency of purchases, reviews left, feedback is given, and other data, is kept on file by the e-commerce company. Machine learning and data mining may be aided by examining this enormous quantity of data, analysing customer behaviour, and seeing potential attrition opportunities. The support vector machine is a popular supervised learning method in machine learning applications. Predictive analysis uses the hybrid classification approach to address the regression and classification issues. The process for forecasting E-Commerce customer attrition based on support vector machines is presented in this paper, along with a hybrid recommendation strategy for targeted retention initiatives. You may prevent future customer churn by suggesting reasonable offers or services. The empirical findings demonstrate a considerable increase in the coverage ratio, hit ratio, lift degree, precision rate, and other metrics using the integrated forecasting model. To effectively identify separate groups of lost customers and create a customer churn retention strategy, categorize the various lost customer types using the RFM principle. © 2023 The Authors

Algorithmic Pluralism A Structural Approach To Equal Opportunity

We present a structural approach toward achieving equal opportunity in systems of algorithmic decision-making called algorithmic pluralism. Algorithmic pluralism describes a state of affairs in which no set of algorithms severely limits access to opportunity, allowing individuals the freedom to pursue a diverse range of life paths. To argue for algorithmic pluralism, we adopt Joseph Fishkin’s theory of bottlenecks, which focuses on the structure of decision-points that determine how opportunities are allocated. The theory contends that each decision-point or "bottleneck" limits access to opportunities with some degree of severity and legitimacy. We adopt Fishkin’s structural viewpoint and use it to reframe existing systemic concerns about equal opportunity in algorithmic decision-making, such as patterned inequality and algorithmic monoculture. In our proposal of algorithmic pluralism, we argue for the urgent priority of alleviating severe bottlenecks. We contend that there must be a pluralism of opportunity available to many different individuals in order to promote equal opportunity in a systemic way. Sound recognition refers to the technology or process of identifying and classifying different sounds or audio signals. This study aims to develop a sound recognition system using machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques to classify and identify the gender of catfish based on their speech patterns. The study explores a range of supervised ML and DL algorithms, such as the Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Naïve Bayes (NB), and others, to predict the gender of catfish. The extracted features from the audio signals of the catfish serve as inputs to these algorithms, which produce binary predictions classifying the catfish samples as either male or female. This study further explores data analysis of the audio signals from the male and female catfish. The automated sound recognition system proves to be a more efficient and accurate approach compared to traditional methods, which rely on time-consuming visual observations. Evaluation metrics such as Accuracy, Sensitivity, and more, were employed to gauge the effectiveness of the algorithms in predicting the gender of catfish based on speech patterns. Among the employed algorithms, ANN and NB demonstrate the highest accuracy, achieving a score of 89.47%.

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century, with profound environmental, economic, and social impacts. Machine learning (ML) has emerged as a transformative tool to address climate challenges through data-driven solutions, offering predictive capabilities for extreme weather events and enhancing the efficiency of clean-energy systems. This technology benefits the optimization of renewable energy generation, intelligent grid management, and resource utilization towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, ML promotes climate justice through targeted region-specific intervention and inclusive solution-making for the most vulnerable. Several technical and ethical challenges associated with data quality, scalability, and model generalization must still be overcome for ML to realize its potential. This paper reviews the role of ML in climate change prediction and mitigation discusses ongoing real-world applications and outlines the future research agenda necessary to address existing challenges. Integrating ML with emerging technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and explainable AI, alongside global collaboration and a focus on climate justice, will be essential in advancing effective climate action.
