Hepatitis C Prediction Using Machine Learning and Deep Learning-Based Hybrid Approach with Biomarker and Clinical data

Chronic liver damage is believed to be mostly caused by the Hepatitis C virus (HCV). About 90% of hepatitis C infections progress to chronic hepatitis. Acute HCV infection is a condition that frequently progresses to liver cirrhosis and eventually liver cancer;therefore, understanding this stage of the virus is essential. Molecular and serological testing approaches are often expensive and difficult to perform for diagnosing HCV infection. Machine learning technology can be effectively employed to identify patterns or associations for diagnosing HCV infection. The study utilized machine learning techniques to develop classification models for hepatitis C illness, aiming to anticipate the virus responsible for the infection. Our research integrates various machine learning algorithms, including Random Forest, Cat Boost, Bagging Classifier, SGD Classifier, Gaussian NB, Bernoulli NB, Multinomial NB, Linear Discriminant Analysis, ANN, and MLP. Prior to training the models, preprocessing methods, including normalization, filtering, and SMOTE, were used to improve the dataset’s attributes. The classification accuracy scores show encouraging results, with ANN scoring 79.63%, MLP scoring 46.29%, Bernoulli NB scoring 79.62%, Cat Boost scoring 98.14%, and Random Forest scoring 99.53%. Among classification methods, random forest demonstrates the highest accuracy in diagnosing HCV infection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Hybrid AOA-TDOA Localization of a Moving Source By Single Receiver

This paper addresses the passive source localization problem using hybrid angle-of-arrival (AOA) and time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) measurements observed by single stationary receiver at several time intervals, when the source is moving with a constant velocity trajectory. We first show that the localization problem cannot be achieved using a sequence of one kind of measurements (i.e., AOAs only or TDOAs only), but can be accomplished by using both AOA and TDOA observations together. Then we develop a parametric model by integrating AOA and TDOA, and then formulate a non-convex constrained weighted least squares (CWLS) problem that is applicable to the 2-D and 3-D scenarios for locating the source. Benefiting from the integrated model, the global solution of the CWLS problem is guaranteed without having local convergence or divergence issues. Furthermore, we conduct the mean square error analysis to validate that the proposed method is able to reach the Cramer-Rao lower bound accuracy under small Gaussian noise for the 2-D and 3-D cases. Simulation results also confirm the good performance of the proposed method. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Knee Osteoarthritis is a progressive and chronic knee joint disease that shows symptoms of pain, stiffness, and swelling and is diagnosed by knee radiographs. These radiographs are evaluated by radiologists using Kellgren and Lawrence’s (KL) grading scheme. According to this scheme, the knee radiograph is graded from KL grade 0 (i.e., Normal) to KL grade 4 (i.e., Severe) to assess the KOA severity. For an automated system, the first step is to localize knee joints from knee radiographs and then classify them according to the KL grading system. In this work, we have proposed vision-based transformers to localize knee joints. We also proposed a single-stage model to localize the knee and classify KOA using a single model. We also explored and compared the performance of various transformers using a multiclass image classification strategy. Since KL grades maintain intrinsic ordinal information of KL grades, we employed an ordinal classification-based strategy to improve automated knee osteoarthritis classification performance. A total of 10 models are trained and validated on multiple datasets, and visualizations are generated for the best model for better comprehension. Our model obtained state-of-the-art results for knee detection and ordinal X-ray classification for KOA. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) tests also indicate that the ordinal classification approach significantly improves the performance of models over traditional image classification approaches. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

To enhance the precision of diagnosis, this research provides a new structure for identifying brain tumors that integrates an Improved Fast Mask Region based Convolutional Neural Network (IFMRCNN) with complex image processing algorithms. Identification of brain tumors is still a significant difficulty in medical imaging since successful therapy depends on early and accurate identification. By precisely identifying tumor boundaries in brain MRI scans, the proposed model makes use of an enhanced version of FMRCNN is intended to enhance separating and categorizing performance. Sophisticated image processing methods are used to improve the extraction of features, allowing the model to more accurately differentiate between tumor and non-tumor areas. By lowering false positives and true negatives, the structure seeks to maintain computing power while greatly increasing detection rates. The proposed strategy outperforms conventional techniques in terms of reliability, specificity, and sensitivity, according to the results of experiments, which makes it a viable tool for support with clinical choices as well as initial diagnosis in neuroimaging. IFRCNN was applied using the Open CV package in conjunction with an SVM algorithm. Using 218 photos as an initial training set, this study's approach demonstrated a 100% success rate in classifying meningiomas and 87.5% accuracy in classifying gliomas, with an average conviction score of 94.6% in the segments of meningioma tumors. A neurologist does a manual examination and ground truth assessment to verify the divided tumor areas. © 2024 IEEE.

A bank's marketing campaign execution is very important. Undoubtedly, a well-crafted marketing plan will contribute to the bank's increased revenue. Marketing is crucial because it can be used to connect with consumers and inform them of the advantages of making a deposit with the bank, which will increase the number of deposits the bank receives. Thus, the goal of this research is to determine the best customer information that affects their decision on subscribing a term deposit and providing the best model for predicting the outcome of future marketing campaign. By determining the significance of each feature, this research constructed machine learning models using methods like Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF) and Logistic Regression (LR) as our research contribution. According to the research's findings, out of the three machine learning models, Random Forest (RF) has the highest accuracy scores. Additionally, the feature importance model reveals that a customer's decision to make a deposit or not is greatly influenced by factors such as the age of the customer, how much does the customer has in their bank account, did the bank have contacts with longer call durations, and did it has a positive outcomes on the previous marketing campaigns. The customers who are contacted more frequently and have subscribed before are more likely to subscribe in the future marketing campaign. © 2024 IEEE.

Accurate box office prediction is crucial for managing financial risks in film production. The internet has transformed consumer behavior, affecting marketing strategies. Critical online reviews, more than early revenue, predict a film's profit, while establishing film critics as the predictors. Hence, this study investigates the intricate relationship between ratings and movies profit. While also finding the best model to predict those variables. This research was conducted through a comprehensive process encompassing data collection and processing, feature selection, prediction modeling, and a detailed discussion of the conducted analysis. Several manual interventions were applied to the data to support further discoveries and analysis in this research. These interventions were carried out based on a solid foundation to enhance the depth of exploration and understanding within the study. The findings reveal that the random forest regression emerged as the most effective in this study, achieving the Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 768.40. Leveraging a dataset of 500 movies from ***, incorporating critics' ratings from ***. Through this research, industry professionals not only enhance their understanding but also identify factors that can be considered to increase a movie's revenue. © 2024 IEEE.

Let P be a set of points in the plane and let T be a maximum-weight spanning tree of P. For an edge (p, q), let Dpq be the diametral disk induced by (p, q), i.e., the disk having the segment pq as its diameter. Let DT be the set of the diametral disks induced by the edges of T. In this paper, we show that one point is sufficient to pierce all the disks in DT. Actually, we show that the center of the smallest enclosing circle of P is contained in all the disks of DT, and thus the piercing point can be computed in linear time. © 2024, Brown University. Natural disasters, including earthquakes, cyclones, floods, and wildfires, cause significant environmental damage and have emerged as a major global issue. These events can result in loss of life and disrupt communities and economy. Effective disaster management relies on timely and accurate information. With social media becoming a primary source of real-time information during such events, many images of these disasters are shared, though some may not be accurately labeled. Therefore, the purpose of this study is classifying natural disaster images, mainly cyclone, wildfire, flood, earthquake from social media images. This paper is to conduct a comparative analysis over 4 models namely VGG16, VGG19, EfficientNetB0, and ResNet-50. This paper uses a dataset that contains 4428 human-annotated images including cyclones, earthquakes, floods, and wildfires. Results concluded that ResNet-50 and EfficientNetB0 give the best result with both got over 96% average accuracy. ResNet-50 delivers more stable and more convergent results compared to EfficientNetB0, but it delivers slightly less classification accuracy. VGG16 and VGG19 are both outclassed in terms of accuracy, but better in training time, with VGG19 having a more convergent result. ©2024 IEEE.

In the field of medical imaging, correct instance segmentation is essential. This work attempts to address the problems related to renal micro-structure segmentation by using the power of YOLOv8 and special MASK R-CNN models to facilitate the development of more rapid and accurate nephrology diagnosis, which will benefit physicians and other healthcare providers. Improved medical imaging analysis is made possible by the model's high precision rate of 'glomerulus' and 'blood vessel' structure detection. The application of the MASKRCNN framework, which successfully integrated pertinent annotations to boost visual understanding, increased the clarity of image interpretation. Additionally, this work uses the HuBMAP dataset to segregate renal microstructures using the YOLOv8 and Mask R-CNN techniques. Strong performance was shown by the YOLOv8 model, which received an IoU score of 84.55%. The Mask R-CNN model received an IoU score of 80.66%, indicating its potential. It is an impressive accomplishment to obtain a high IoU score for YOLOv8 in the context of medical photo segmentation, since this suggests that there is still room for further improvement and optimization of the model. For medical professionals, the IoU scores are crucial since they offer a technique to improve accuracy and reliability when it comes to nephrology diagnosis. In order to improve diagnosis accuracy and enable broader clinical adoption, future research aims to improve these IoU ratings. The observed disparity underscored the inherent complexities associated with differentiating between ambiguous kidney structures and also the pressing need for further advancement. Our preliminary work demonstrates the potential of MASK-RCNN and YOLOv8 in the challenging field of renal micro-structure segmentation. © 2024 IEEE.

The escalating demand for skilled IT professionals underscores the increasing significance of the recruitment process. Traditional methods often fall short in identifying individuals poised for success in the dynamic technology industry. This paper aims to address the challenges in recruiting proficient applicants by proposing an interpretable machine learning model for assessing IT job candidates. The study conducts experiments comparing various machine learning algorithms, including Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and Decision Tree, using data from the 'IT job applicant' public dataset. Evaluation methods such as the confusion matrix, accuracy, recall, and precision are employed to assess the model's performance. The findings reveal that the decision tree exhibits an accuracy exceeding 99.8%, establishing it as the top-performing model. The key contributing factor to this accuracy is identified as the 'computerSkills' feature. Additionally, within the decision tree, *** and Microsoft SQL Server are highlighted as influential factors positively impacting individual decision interpretation. © 2024 IEEE.
